My dislike for Dubas just continues to increase. Just when I think he cannot F up anymore he rises to the occasion.

lol I’m not criticizing Dubas for not taking an alleged deal posted by a random HFBoard member. Nobody here has a clue what is happening in these private negotiations

Reilly is not a PP1 dman or a #1 or #2 Dman and he should be he wants 7-9 million. Brodie and Muzzin are better all round defenders, why pay him more than both? He is not worth it. Dubas is smart to not re sign him but making a mistake not moving him. The Leafs imo will not miss Reilly. They need another Brodie or Muzzin, guys who are playoff dmen. Reilly is not a good defender, is soft and lacks a second fight or determination to win battles. The Leafs biggest weakness is defending leads, winning 2-1 games. They need a defensive defenseman, not Reilly. Yes id respect Dubas for moving Reilly for a lesser skating, better defending dman with no flash.
Yet the last 5 years rielly was easily our best D man. Last season heads and shoulders better.

Yep betting odds,
line moves depending which way a bet goes.
If there was a Toronto bookie, the odds would be worse as the money would be going on Toronto, so the bookie then lowers the odds, not to lose money.
As the season goes on the line changes, as teams show if they’re good or not.

I do consider it a failure on management if he walks. The amount of talent let walk for nothing the past 5 years, assuming we lose in first round again, is hard to look at.

Time to deal 44 in a huge deal - multiplayers

What could have happened to change things?
The season starts Wednesday does it not? The belief is that Rielly does not want to negotiate during the season. If this contract was in fact on the table and Morgan Rielly walks then management needs to go. Not that we will ever know.

IMO 7.5m X 8 is the MAX they can offer Rielly. Full NMC, they can structure the pay to his choosing.

Optimistic 'home town discount' comparables are maybe Parayko (6.5m X 8), Ellis (6.25m X 8)... Pelech took 5.75m X 8 which is nuts.

Open market even if he chased money I doubt he'd get 9M, probably close to 8.5m... 8m if he's willing to sign a reasonable deal with a competitive team.
