Rielly’s response to Greig was…

Parros comes down pretty hard on the Leafs with harsh suspensions. Kadri is an example. Then Spezza. Now Rielly. Matthews. It’s not like there aren’t instances of these kind of plays all the time either.
Fair enough, but you know what they say about opinions……….

Hearing that the NHL is apparently going to go extra hard on Rielly and this makes his choice of response even worse. Why can our guys never respond in a “clean” way? Is it because no one else will? If this was Tampa or Florida or Boston they’d start a scrum with a shove to his back or something and in the middle of it Greig would take a couple punches to the head and facewashes. Nothing too damaging but it at least gets the point across and sets the tone for next year. Rielly probably thinks he has to go above and beyond because he knows none of his teammates on the ice are going to do shit in a scrum and are just going to stand around while Greig just leaves the ice.

Yes, you play hard no matter what the score. No, taking a slap shot isn't illegal, but skating all by yourself from what...the centre ice line all the way and then winding up for the big slapper at the crease is a garbage move. It's showboating. Maybe do this in house league, but not the NHL. Greig should known better. Why not pull some between the legs one handed deke next time......just as bad.
I would not be happy with the kid if I was his coach. Why are you winding up and risking that you miss, flub the shot, whatever? Just guide the puck into the empty net so that there is no risk of a miss.

Is this what we want in our game? We dont want this garbage infiltrating the league

We dont need garbage suspensions and boring ending to games. As a hockey fan it was great seeing true hockey. A scrum/line brawl is what we need more of in the game not less of.

Funny thing is the Leafs will justify their toilet paper softness by saying you see what happens when we get tough? As for the core, their DNA doesn’t know how to spell grit and pushback, so they didn’t even notice that something happened.

It was a completely appropriate response. I really don't care if Rielly misses games to suspension. This is exactly the response I want to see when we are getting shown up by any team.

Take the rest Mo, its well deserved. Glad to see someone on this team show a little heart every once in a while

Yea it's highly unlikely that that incident would change them one bit. They are what they are.

What’s the most recent comparable? This wasn’t just a regular cross-check that got away from Rielly during the normal course of play.
There's a few

Perron/Zub (6 games)
Mangiapane/McCann (1 game)
Benn/Stone (2 playoff, so ~4 regular season equivalent)
Lizotte/Morrisey (1 game)

I wouldn't say any of those were regular cross checks that got away either, maybe Lizotte. The others were predatory targets to the head on a vulnerable player.

Perrons is the worst, this feels a little lighter than Benn to me

The main board is out of control. Someone started a thread (obviously to troll Leaf fans) calling a "6 game suspension". Come on. 6 games? If Rielly had a long track record I could see that, but come on now...

Which of those were clearly after the whistle?

yea this was also a bit of what kadri had to feel too I think. no one else would stand up so to make a point you go overboard to have the same effect as if the entire line out there decides to go for them

Anyone think nylander, marner or matthews were gonna do anything there? Marner maybe gives them a scared look, nylander doesn't even acknowledge it and matthews too busy checking out the cute girl in seat 15. Those guys got involved because they had to, not because they wanted to and at the end of the day it has always been that way and will probably continue to be that way
