If he gets more than 1 game, which we know is the case, and the Leafs org doesn’t call out the league, than it’s confirmed that it’s the most despicable organization in sports. A first year coach calls out the NBA and rightfully so, let’s see what these losers do

Shouldn’t be more than 2 games hopefully.

it's going to be a huge number so the NHL can appease all 31 other fan bases and say look we don't favor the Leafs like you claim we do. The Edmunson cross-check on Simmonds got nothing so why now should Reilly get one?

My bigger concern is MLSE and its corporate woke image. They are probably advocating a big number for Reilly so they can say we don't condone violence in hockey see look at us all woke

Now if I was the coach this would be my rallying cry to galvanize this team. It's us against the league and world. Keefe should be lighting a fire under all these guys and those without the proper response should be shipped out. I know 2 that won't show any emotion Marner and Tavares.

I don't mind being the villains of the league. The mainboards thread is an instant classic and that kind of stuff is actually a little fun. I do mind that the league takes 30 years of equalization payments from us and then treats us like jerkoffs. I hate that the org has so little self respect that they take it on the chin every time and expect us to take it too and keep money to teams that go further than us in the playoffs. I wish we had an owner with some balls, rather than the faceless telecoms who are too busy overcharging us for crappy service to spend an ounce of energy on the team. UGH

There was a slow motion angle I saw on Twitter that showed it deflect off Greig’s glove after he sticks his hand out. Anyone have that clip?

Terrible defensive system though.

Speaking primarily in terms of atmosphere at games, generally I think our fanbase is way too passive for the most part. You see teams like the Bruins and the fans 100% embrace being disliked. Half of our arena doesn't care about the game and another huge chunk is afraid of noise and look at you like you have 10 heads if you try to create an atmosphere. Unfortunately we're in a no win situation with no point of return in that sense.

Totally agree with you on the owner piece.

On his first home game back from the inevitable suspension Leafs fans in attendance should give him a standing ovation & cheer loudly every time he steps on the ice.

The message to the rest of the team will be clear, though sadly I'm not optimistic enough to think it'll work.

3-5 seems appropriate. Bias won’t have anything to do with it
I am sure it will be 5 or 6 games. There isn't really precedent for anything longer than that based on similar incidents, and if it was going to be less than 5 they wouldn't bother dragging him to NYC (or hopefully they do "in-person" meetings by video call to save everyone the time and effort).

I wouldn't care, if Rielly got two or ten games, as long as these calls were consistent. How is it, that we don't seem to get the calls when it happens to our players? I mean, am I imagining things here?
Yes, you are. Every team can cherry pick plays where fans think the player on the opposing team should have been suspended. I think you can pretty much guarantee that no matter what team it is, if a guy skates over to intentionally cross-check an opposing player in the head after the whistle, a suspension is coming. My only complaint with this whole situation is that I think the Ottawa player should be suspended (or at the very least penalized), as well, but that's just because I hate show-boating.

There should be no easier fine to hand down.

Great video. Clearly doctored though :sarcasm:

I would like to see more than just a fine for show-boating. I even dislike over the top goal celebrations (which sometimes Matthews is guilty of). I appreciate that there is a fine (and fuzzy) line between celebrating and being disrespectful, but a slap shot into an empty net from five feet out is completely unnecessary and is deserving of punishment from the league.

No suspension here.

No penalty here.

Or here?

You’re not crazy.

Facts are facts. It’s like the league is afraid to be fair with the Leafs because they don’t won’t to be accused of being biased.

It's going to be more than two.
I think that it'll be 2 games and nothing more and that is too much for an appropriate response to a player showing up your team. It had to be done or fans of every team would say that the Leafs should've done something and are a weak, soft team.
