The mains are a Greek tragedy right now. I can't believe how many are ok with a clapper into an empty net like it was pure innocence. How about next time the Leafs have an open net, the Leafs player puts it in off the butt of his stick, billiards style, while the rest of the players do the macarena or some hip hop dznce moves....then act all outraged when the opponents comes over to send a message.

The main board idiots would also be looking the other way had the Leafs pulled a hotdog move after a win.

Bertuzzi just floats around out there thinking about ways he's going to spend his 5.5 million dollar paycheck. He's never really bought in. Same with a few others. Been a lackluster year for these players. Could have given way more. Cost us points.
I think the problem with Bert and others is they are bit players and they know it. Keefe made a comment not too long ago about how Bert needs to buy in to what they are asking him to do. I think he fit the bruins system/locker room vibe better because they very structured and team oriented which is their identity and which seems polar opposite to the leafs style of doing things. Now in saying that he really doesn't do himself any favors... if he doesnt fit with who they put him with, he is unable to bring much to the table on his own.

Yes. That was a love tap compared to what goes on in this league on a regular basis without any suspensions. “OMG he assaulted him.” Get over yourself, this is the NHL and he was basically asking for it.
if he had given a cheap shot on one of our guys or really laid out someone, i get it, but for a slapper into an empty net he deserves his teeth knocked out or his jaw broken by a stick?

Yeah, he deserves a suspension.

I find myself thinking toss the season and start gooning.

Become the dirtiest team, with cheapshots and late hits and taunting of other teams.

If they're going to be punished as such a team "make it so."

Teams can have down years during their contention windows so if the Leafs flame out and miss the playoffs put things in order so next year is in good shape. And in the meantime just rebuild your reputation as a boy band team but laying waste to the league.

It was dumb and irresponsible

It was also balls to the wall awesome and warranted.

It can be the right thing and the wrong thing, when you’re willing to accept the consequences to make your point. I love it

There's no need to be dramatic, nothing happened to him he popped right back up. No need to go into fake scenarios either since again that isn't what happened

Sadly, if this all-star team could beat the worst team in the division we wouldn’t need to respond to empty net slap shots.

Yeah, this "what if" crap is annoying. Grieg survived the vicious onslaught.

He dropped and turtled just like debrusk did, time Marchand or any other rat would do.

He had his chance to drop his gloves and fight, but he chose the coward way out just like everyone knows he would.

There was no injury, no harm done to him and the point was made.

Good for the team, imo

Marchand slewfoot Liljegren into the end boards injuring him and skated away without a slightest concern.

Marchand has been doing this for years without repercussion, and the league just ignores it.

Offered an in person hearing, gives the NHL the option of 6+ games. If cross checking someone's shoulder is 6+ games, there are going to be a hellofalot of empty benches

His teeth were not knocked out and his jaw was not broke. So any more strawman you want to try?

Hard for them to show consistency since there's never really been any established standard for consistency (catch 22). I have no idea how they're going to rule on this so nothing will surprise me.

There's plenty of consistency with DOPS, you just have to look for it in the right places. Looking for consistency across teams is a fools errand because it will never exist. Instead you need to look for consistency amongst players from the same team. Some teams get suspended way more and for way longer than others. You can hit, attack, assault, etc players from certain teams and never get suspended. The Venn Diagram of these 2 subsets of teams is just 1 circle consisting of 1 team; The Leafs.

My biggest problem is that it wasnt enough of a response.

Next time make it count. Knock a few teeth out. If you're gonna do something to get suspended you may as well make it worth it.

These guys pick their spots terribly.

First Kadri. Then Matthews. Now Rielly.

They wouldn't have to use their sticks if they used their fists to begin with.

Nobody would do anything stupid if they thought the price paid was gonna be their teeth. Instead the team let the entire league abuse them for years and did nothing. Standing up for the empty net at this point seems pretty redundant if you ask me.

Especially since they only did a half assed job of it anyway.

Not missing every shot you take and costing yourself millions on your next contract isn’t a system/locker room issue.

Say what you will about Bunting but at least when he hit Cernak the way he did he got his moneys worth knocking him out for the rest of the series. Not that I condone that type of hit but if you’re going to do it you may as well go all in.
