I guess Rielly took less so wants to make sure he isn't shipped off at some point. However Dubas needs to stop giving so many players NMC/NTC.... it handicap's your ability to navigate the cap in the future.

Hell even a useless plug like Simmonds somehow got a full NTC this year and a M-NTC next year

If it's 7.5 per then it's a steal
Yes, Good on Mo! He took a serious haircut to stay in the Hockey Mecca of the World! That is one thing that Toronto has going for it, it is a world-class city.

Prospect development to help fill in the gaps in depth positions paired with some better bargain hunting in free agency (more Buntings less Ritchies ect(
While I'm sure that is the plan forward it relies on quite a bit of luck to hit those draft picks and free agent signings without making a mistake and having wasted cap as a result (aka signing someone to a bad contract). Leafs don't have room for a mistake. Dubas has committed to his core and we will see what happens. I really hope they can do some damage this year because if not there will be big trades and the leafs probably don't win most of them...

Rielly has been just fine, had 72 points in Babcock's last season... if everyone was in Contract year while babs was coaching everyone would be insanely overpriced. Good think Keefe came in and knocked Riellys value down significantly. Should've hired him a few years earlier to be honest. Now if we hire a real coach we might get 9 million per year Rielly back.

The contract as compared to the market is pretty good. The contract as paying Morgan Rielly the player $7.5M is less than ideal. The contract as keeping Morgan Rielly the person as a great human being and one of the only feel-good players on this soulless and at times intensely unlikable team is pretty good.

Good deal! Happy Rielly signed! Gave the Leafs at least a million dollars in discount per year in the UFA market next year!

Rielly's father probably slapped him over-the-head to not be like the other greedy RFAs...:sarcasm:

I'm hoping those that wanted to move away from Morgan warm up to what he brings and what he means to this team. He's a player that we need to keep. There are two dozen more pressing issues than Morgan.
I wanted to move him when I thought we would lose yet another good player for nothing.
This is a good contract for a good player. Toronto needs more Morgan Reilly’s and less Mickey Mouse types.
I hope this signals an offseason trade of Mitch Marner. The money remaining on his deal will be very attractive to cash strapped teams (there are many of them).

I wonder if this means Muzzin is playing himself out of the Leafs medium range plans? His cap hit would be nice to shop with if he isn't going to be the pillar of strength on defense.

This likely spells the end for Jake Muzzin, he has no movement protection until July 1st 2023 the Summer before his contract expires. If I'm a betting man I'm betting he's moved in the next 12 months.

EDIT: Nevermind the wording on capfriendly was funky. He has full No Trade protection right now.

It likely spells the end of Kerfoot and Holl before Muzzin

I think that depends on how Dermott and Sandin do this season. Muzzin's likely a potential trade candidate in the summer with 2 years left on his deal. If they move more cap (and the Leafs struggle next year) he could be a valuable deadline piece for a contender with 1 year + 2 playoff runs. His name still carries some value around the league.

Given the lines at practice I would suggest Holl is the guy on defense, Kerfoot up front
