Please keep telling yourself that captain hindsight. Maybe Phoenix was set on OEL and wouldn't trade the pick seeing that he was on the board still?

You're just trying to justify your fake trades and attempting to show you could to a better job for whatever reason.

Maybe we trade with LA KINGS then.

7th plus Kaberle gets you Phil Kessel apparently so I think just maybe it would be worth Phoenix or Kings pick.

Maybe.

Except for the fact it is another example of Button not being able to judge a great players potential.

And I do believe this thread concerns players potential.

No. It is not another example of Buttons skill or non-skill in terms of judging player abilities. At the time Button got this one right. The fact that Giguere went on, and under good coaching at the time, became a dramatically better player has nothing to do with the fact that when Button dumped Giguere it was the right decision at the time. He was right. Things changed later but, AT THE TIME, Button made the right call on Giguere.

That is only when the spirit of James Ready takes me over.

You should use this as your avatar.

Little known fact that Gionta is the best rapper in the NHL.

Just wondering, what are you debating here with CharlesLemieux?

Maybe me and my keen logical skills can be of some assistance here.

I think it is arguable who is better between these two.. For Karlsson I believe he is coming off of a career year, and Pietroangelo still has room to get much better. If I'm building a team I would take Pietroangelo over any Defenseman in the show.

Precisely.

(...)

because lets face it, a 22yo 6'2 defenseman producing at a 1.5ppg in the AHL has an enormously high chance of getting 60+ points in the NHL, which would make him a top 10 defenseman in the league.

(...)

Why?

I never understood why people equate " x points by a defenseman = great defenseman".

Isn't a d-man first duty to play defense, and not to be a fourth forward?

Was Tom Bladon a very good defenseman?

Is Marc-André Bergeron a good defenseman?

Was Mike Green a great defenseman when he had two PPG seasons?

Is Sheldon Souray a very good defenseman?

And that is not to say that Schultz won't be a very good/great defenseman. But if he is, it won't simply be because he's putting up points.

Just listened to WJC blurb on the fan960 in calgary.

It was all about Rielly.

Said he could have gone to the WJC last year if he was not injured.

More or less said this WJC could be all about Rielly.

LOL - no pressure!

Calgary radio? Those guys must be Leaf fans overhyping their own prospects again.

No one understands this here. Maybe like one out of twenty posters on this site. They actually think the object of being a defenceman is to score points. Pietrangelo is better than Karlsson.

This is a theme that will be important for Rielly's future as a Leaf going forward, according to Bob mackenzie.

Bobby Orr and Paul Coffey drops by to say hello!

He looks like that all the time but yes I remember how we needed Adam Foote-jrs little brother on the team.

If Burke was so smart he would have gotten the OEL.

Hindsight is 20/20. Very, VERY few people would have been upset with picking Schenn. Many here wanted Schenn, I don't recall many, if any, people wanting OEL at the time.

I didn't. Takes too long to read through. I only read the last page and reply to the good posts.

Honestly, how can you discuss seriously if you don't even take the time to read the thread?

You'll at least avoid foolish mistakes like the one I quoted previously.

But hey, it's your reputation, not mine. :D

I wasn't discussing anything. I was asking a question. Difference!

ON the link you provided Giguere had a .914sv% and 2.73 gaa in 7gp CGY before he was traded.

Even if it was," right at the time ", this list is not about right now. This is a list of prospects with a large portion based on potential down the road.

Button has shown no ability to project a players potential down the road.

Button on TSN predicted Burke was going to take Forberg 5th overall the night before the draft. Mcguire said he'd take Rielly.

Karlsson won the Norris. He was voted the top defenseman in hockey. Many don't agree with you.

Do you have any idea how many games Karlsson won for his team with his offense?
