Lol, Greig has better hands and vision than Downie ever had. Also, Downie never had the two way prowess of Greig. Greig is used as a 2 way specialist who can score against opposition's best. Downie was a guy who was physically mature at younger age and played with insane edge.

I can see Greig's average years be similar to Downie's career year, but that's where similarities stop.
Weird take...

Downie may have been physically mature, but he was never a big guy. He played in the NHL at ~190 which was the average weight for the 2005 combine draft class when drafted.

Downie was used in the CHL as a penalty killer, his coach raved about him as a complete player used in all situations and he scored at a 2pts per game level without any particularly notable teammates I can think of.

Downie wasn't an elite offensive skills guy, but neither is Greig, I think the fog of time might be impacting people's recollection of Downie...

Still think AHL top line minutes with top pp and pk are the best for his development.

We want him to become a hard nosed top 6 forward. AHL is a great way to help him achieve that
Would love to see how Mann helps him develop. Follow the Norris/Batherson/Formenton path, and he'll be absolutely ready when he's called up.

I don't think his skating or puck skills are quite as good as has been described in this thread, but I think Greig's aggressiveness around the net and his willingness to go into the dirty areas to score will make him a 20-20-40 guy at the very least, while being a key PKer, two-way player, bringing a physical presence and antagonizing the opposition.

Ideally the team can afford to do this. With Formenton's contract still an unknown I am not sure the team will agree.

There is pressure to win with the current roster and the 3rd LW wing role will be important. If we can plug in someone like Crookshank or Lodin, etc...then I think we should let Greig really blossom in the A with loads of minutes all over the place. Even if he gets 1/2 a season of top line play in Belleville he should step in to the NHL in a far better spot to succeed.

I think his vision and playmaking are his top assets. His IQ and panic level are very high end.

Too many posters take it personally if you don't compare prospects to top line players.
I like downie and haven't said a bad word about him, other than comparing him to a serial killer. You guys seem to be taking extremely personally. Maybe micklebot is related to Downie?

Guy got over 200 pims in two seasons. Maybe Greig will also be a talented psycho on the ice like you guys seem absolutely certain of.

I don't see it so I guess let's devote the next week to over reacting to a flippant comparison.

Downie had 145 points in 80 games over his last two junior seasons. Like Greig he also excelled at the World Juniors while playing on the edge.

Definitely a lot of similarities, I just think Greig’s hands, vision and hockey IQ are better.

I think Downie had a great hockey IQ. His finishing was good too. I do think people are getting a little outta control with Grieg here. Projects to be a good player but he has a long way to go. He needs to get stronger and faster still. He needs to have better situational awareness. If developed properly I can see a Darcy Tucker level of player which is really really good. But he needs time in the AHL. He needs to 'be the guy' in pro and get a bunch of first PP reps. He comes up to the NHL and he will probably never get them and will be a bottom 6 guy.

I agree with all of this other than that I think Greig’s IQ is better. I’ve been on the 2 years junior + 1 season AHL train for Greig from the beginning. He could use more physical maturity.

Might not matter Now, damn you Swiss
Not the Swiss fault - it’s entirely on Greig himself.

I was convinced he was going to pull out because from what I was aware of, he was still recovering from the injury sustained from the end of the WHL season.

Then he was held out for “precautionary” reasons against Slovakia In the third.

His fault.

Yeah, I'm really concerned about this players health already. So many injuries since we drafted him. Very injury prone.

Yup. Keep in AHL all year this year. When Debrincat moves on you slot him there to negate the blow as much as possible.

He was literally interfered with and never anticipated the hit.... His style of play had nothing to do with him leaving the game..
Depends on whether he was already hurt and the interference just aggravated something caused by his playstyle. It seemed pretty innocuous tbh so I suspect the damage was already done prior

Very possible and likely but you can see in the replay that he was bent over, skating hard and slightly leaning forward to start reaching for the puck. He was purely puck focused but then he just ran into a wall which stopped all his momentum immediately. He was not expecting to be hit at that moment so I could see it causing a shoulder stinger/frozen shoulder or a mild separation. I still think there's a chance he could play but imo Sens might not want him to risk further injury.

Greig was blind sided by a hit which was clearly an interference penalty that the refs missed & then missed another one later in the game. They also missed Canada having six skaters on the ice at the same time which was crazy bad. Hopefully, it's not too serious, but it looked like a shoulder injury & those things tend to linger until they get it fixed & that means missing most of a season like both Pinto & White had too.

So, are there any updates on Greig's injury? If its a shoulder, this could be another Pinto scenario unfortunately.
