watching this guy tonight it was almost funny, he couldn't buy one, kept making pretty good plays, keeping the puck in the zone or chasing after a loose puck only to have some one dive and poke it away or have the goalie make a great save.... could it be maybe hes due for a tare? i hope so we could use it

The way he moves the puck sometimes you are reminded of how much skill this guy really has. He has so much ****ing talent it's disgusting. I just wish he had the intensity of Moore or Carcillo. If he had half their heart he'd be one of the best players in the league.

In game 7 he was very engaged. He was finishing checks and skating very hard. Why can't he play that way every game. He's such a force when he does that. He has to realize his size right? When he finished his checks he was knocking people down, you realize how big he is.

Finishing his checks gets him engaged in the game. I saw him jawing and slashing with Simmonds at a face off. He never does stuff like that, he's usually so vanilla. It's great to see. Hopefully we can tell him every game is game 7 and he will play like that consistently.

If he can play like this every game, the goals will come. Mason had his number in this series. If he takes the puck to the net, forces turnovers and skates as hard as he did tonight, the goals will absolutely come.

I still have faith the goals will come. I know some don't care for the advanced stats, but he had the 3rd highest Corsi for % in the NHL 5 on 5 in the first round. He is getting a lot of shots while on the ice, and playing well defensively.

He has to put it in the back of the net, I expect a big 2nd round from him.

I'd say he is a prime example why advanced stats are just as faulted as many "regular" stats. Nash took many pretty useless writers from the blue line and also played on a good offensive line (which he was a part of, but not the best player), both of which inflated his stats. You can not tell me with a straight face that Nash really was the 3rd best 5-on-5 player these playoffs so far.

Definitely not, not even close, just showing he is getting a lot of chances on the ice. I truly believe the goals will come in the 2nd round. At least I hope they do ;).

Malkin is a good comparison to Nash in this round. He was a ghost as far as goal scoring was concerned. But as soon as he got that 1st one he went off. Something similar will happen with Nash, hopefully.

Better comparing him to Crosby then, he was invisible the entire first round. Malkin was engaged a lot more than Crosby was while actually scoring at last. I'd take that trade though.. Nash not scoring, Crosby not scoring for the second round

Nash was noticeably better last night. The effort was there. Maybe he is starting to figure out PO hockey?

I think what everyone really wants to see from this guy is a game where he is the difference and wins the game for us. Then I think people will feel like we got what we paid for.

We will need some goals from him to get past pitt so this will either be a GOAT or goat series for him.

Nash played very well last night, likely his best game. Just because you don't put up points or score a goal does not mean you played bad. He was excellent defensively and was hitting guys which is not very Nash like, so liked the physical part of his game.

His best game in this series, despite not having any points. Had more checks than previous six games together!

I want to see an entire series of Rick Nash like we saw in that CBJ game. AV needs to hire someone to follow him around all day and make him mad. Nash plays much better when he's mad.

Or perhaps he felt all the negativity toward his effort and decided to do something about it - which would probably be the worst answer of all. If Nash is capable of playing as hard as he did last night and being as engaged as he was last night, and he just hasn't put forth that effort IN THE PLAYOFFS - well, that's just horrible.

Nash has to bring it night after night after night, until he can't bring it no more. Time to stop being Rick Nash and start playing like you are capable of playing.

I don't care what motivates him as long as he is doing his job.

I put forth MY THEORY as to why I think he is generally NOT motivated, but we won't go there again.

He's playing well, he just needs to scar goals...I WANT SOME NASHTY!!!!!!!!

That's the odd thing about him. Most times he's so chill and so vanilla, but in the right circumstances, he really turns on the rage, and he becomes a different player almost.

Let's hope that the Pens plan on trying to get under his skin. That seems to rile him up most times.

I agree with everyone, last night was a step in the right direction, though he needs to show that every night to do damage in the playoffs. Even if you can't score - shoot and hit. They'll wear down.

Hey guys. Just wanted to ask you about Rick.

Does his numbers lie? Or does he for real not come close to justifying that 7.8M cap hit?

No the numbers don't lie. He had a stretch of 4 weeks right around the time the olympic team was being named when he really picked up his effort level.

Last night he showed up, but mostly he's been a soft lazy perimeter player like your average Euro league bust.

Really doesn't show up unless he feels like it, and lacks will, heart and drive.

At this time of the season he needs to go balls out, but outside of game 7, he hasn't done all that much in terms of trying.

He is not getting it done. Period.

When your leading goal scorer goes scoreless in a seven game series, it's a failure win or lose.

I'm very disappointed in his postseasons as a Ranger. He's lucky this is the deepest Rangers team in years.

He's paid to score goals. Period.

The numbers lie, for the most part.

The average fan will say he sucks, hes not worth his paycheck, blah blah blah.

It's typical nonsensical overdramatized fandom.

He didnt score. But he generated chances. One has to wonder how many of his long shots were intentional to get offensive zone faceoffs, it seemed like that was a strategy that many of the lines were doing.

He had several in close chances, he hit at least 1 post, he drove the net, etc. Mason played fantastic, his linemates were hit or miss. Frankly I thought Stepan was the best player on his line all series long but I dont think his stats show that at all...

Advanced stats, and the eyeball test (to me) show that Nash was a tremendous player in the first round...could he buy a goal? No. But he had 4 assists at least, generated tons of chances, played excellent defensively, backchecked harder than anyone on his line, etc.

Those kinds of things arent sexy. PPL will remember Pouliots goal last night, they wont remember 50 million idiotic penalties.

Nature of being a fan in a large fan base. The complainers have the loudest voices.

Translation:

The numbers lie, unless you can find numbers that don't.

0 goals in the first round, and 1 goal in 19 playoff games for the Rangers is disappointing any way you slice it. He has been getting better and applying more urgency to his game, but he needs to pot one and get the monkey off his back.

That's great.

Toews in the first round of the playoffs last year. 0G 2A, and both assists were in the last game, a blowout win.

Second Round. 1G 3A

3rd Round. 0G 2A

Finals 2G 3A

He had 3 goals in the entire playoffs last year. 3.

Sidney Crosby

0 Goals this entire playoffs so far.

0 Goals in his last 11 Playoff Games

I know you, and every other hater doesnt want to hear this...but sometimes, even the greats get shut down by other teams/go into funks/etc

I could dig up the threads on what a loser Marian Hossa, Pavel Datsyuk, etc were for being such terrible playoff performers.

They now each have what...2 or 3 cups to their names?

Playoffs are a team sport, you need depth, you need other players to step up, and your best players need to play well.

Nash has played well...Goals arent coming, but he's been a beast out there.

I forgot though that we live in a get goals or GTFO world where nuance has no place.
