I used to post on the official Rangers board starting as a 14 year old in 2000 until some douche named Jimbosam drove me away from that board. I still remember Levitate from it. Anyway, there was this one guy who was reasonable in every other way but he LOVED Purinton. Who was it that loved McIlrath here, Beacon? It was like that but weirder because even back then Purinton was conidered garbage, even by 2000 standards and by the standards of one of the worst defensive teams in Rangers history.
DalePurintonIsGod. Had a big thing for yorkiegirl18 if I remember correctly.

Nah, I think his name had a T in the beginning and was short. Also, did he have a big thing for her or was she like one of three women there? I don't remember Yorkiegirl, but I remember Zlata and there was another girl who kind of played tough because she thought she had to in a male dominated board.

Edit: Sorry I'm going off topic but it was nice to reminisce.

There was a DPIG, he had multiple Purinton jerseys. He changed his username a couple times so it's possible we're talking about the same guys.

That place was a zoo.

Think @Dagoon was the MacI Stan iirc.

Also @Machinehead infamously thought he was a top4D and more valuable than Cam Fowler because Corsi

Imagine sending Dale Purinton out in overtime

What a goal this was though. Also my favorite Bure memory

Whenever I hear his name or see him in an old Ranger clip, all I think of is his psychotic mugshot from a few years back.

Pavel Bure is my favorite player of all time. In hindsight they should’ve included Malhotra in the original deal that Vancouver wanted. They could’ve had a prime Bure who wasn’t broken down yet. Gretzky has even said he would not have retired and would’ve played at least one more year if they got Bure.

I think Malhotra was eventually traded anyway in a deal to Dallas that included Martin Rucinsky. All I remember was that Malhotra was probably going to be groomed as a future captain for the Rangers that might have topped out as a 2nd line center but ended up playing his career as a bottom 6 forward.

Bure scored 60 plus goals a couple times with nobody as a center in Florida, how many could he have scored playing on a line with Wayne Gretzky?

Yeah, I remember Mike York. He wasn't any good anywhere else but it just worked here. That hurt us.

Apparently York was not into fitness. He'd always start out fast and cool down. Sather saw this and came to the conclusion that this would not change so he cut ties.

Ironically he was right and Poti was the better player but fans never warmed up to him.

Poti was not really a better player. York had 3 good NHL seasons after the trade, 2 good seasons in AHL, and 5 great seasons in Germany, while Poti was pretty much done by the end of 2010.

This was still the era where #toffness trumped all and it didn't matter what Poti's skills were as he was perceived as soft.

It was the times. The whipping boys were heckled in arenas back then. It's mostly digital now. Poti comes from a long line of whipping boys, this tradition has lasted so long, I don't even know who the first whipping boy was. You had the likes of Driver, Ulanov prior to Poti. Of course there was Rosizval, who was memorable because he was actually good but played higher in the line-up, so he got more ice-time.... more boos.

I don’t know how accurate this is, but for what it’s worth, I heard through people that worked in the organization at the time that if the Rangers had traded for Bure at the 99 deadline that Gretzky would have considered not retiring.

With that said, I wanted to go streaking when I found out we got Bure and didn’t give up Mike York to do so. Then we made one of the worst trades of the decade and sent him to Edmonton for Tom Poti only days later. They should have kept York and Berard as Berard played well in NY and had that career year in Chicago 2 seasons later.

Gretzky said that openly: ESPN.com - NHL - Bure proves his value to the league

York for Poti was a home run and Berard was not the slightest bit good in New York.

I never saw that publicly and went on word for years on it. Thank you.

A home run? Yikes. Poti had that one decent offensive season in 03 and was garbage on defense and was bad the 2 years after in 04 and 06. Even if you want to say Poti was good for his time in NY, York was a better player in Edmonton with 2 50 point seasons and a injury season in which he was on pace for about 50 points as well.

Even if you want to claim that Berard wasn’t good, Poti wasn’t worth York and that trade wasn’t a home run.
