Which part is a joke? I thought I pretty much just listed the facts?
The entire post. Where you criticize Poti for having his career end 8 years after the trade, but praise York’s work in lesser leagues after he was churned out the bottom on the NHL when he let himself get fat.

I was in Miami when Florida traded Bure to NYR and remember thinking that the $10 million in cash was the best part of the deal for the Cats (they were a mess financially). I know PB had had several knee issues at that point and that he was on the wrong side of 30, but I always felt the Panthers got fleeced. What did you think as Ranger fans at the time?
He was damaged goods. The trade looked good on paper. I didn't realize Bure was only 31 when he retired.

Poti was not really a better player. York had 3 good NHL seasons after the trade, 2 good seasons in AHL, and 5 great seasons in Germany, while Poti was pretty much done by the end of 2010.
God, Poti. Ugh hated that guy with a passion. York was another one of those flash in the pan players. It just goes to show how good Lindros was. The guy was half dead and carried York on his back and made him look good.

York had some decent seasons. I thought it was more of Theo Fleury that carried York.

They thought they were one player away from the playoffs and that was enough.

The next "one player" they would bring in would prove to be huge, though.
Was that Jagr?

Bure was my favorite player on the team during his short stint as a Ranger. That career ending hit put such a damper on that terrible season.

Apparently York was not into fitness. He'd always start out fast and cool down. Sather saw this and came to the conclusion that this would not change so he cut ties.

Ironically he was right and Poti was the better player but fans never warmed up to him.
He just didn't have a body that could deal with Dead Puck Era physicality/stickwork. Wasn't fitness. That was much later in his career. Lots of guys even 10 years later would have gotten grinded to dust by the same grinders.

You can blame Lindros for ~all of that, pretty much the entire league changed for him and Leclair straight dummying people.

The thing with York though was his decline was fast. He was still pretty young the year after the lockout but he was considered washed up by then. That was three years later.

I went to a Rangers game on my BDay in 2007 (Girardi's NHL debut in Philly) and Flyers fans were calling him the Pillsbury Dough Boy, out of shape, etc.

Pork for Poti and Rem Murray was absolutely brutal at the time of the deal but it didn't really end up that way

That deal pissed me off so much at the time. I was so excited at 3 pm because that deal was rumored all day and I thought we were home free but the deal came in at 3:15.

I used to stay home from school every trade deadline

I think the fans didn’t warm up to Poti because he was a big body and he was an offensive minded defenseman and shied away from physical play. I mean, his nickname was Pokecheck Poti.

It was the times. The whipping boys were heckled in arenas back then. It's mostly digital now. Poti comes from a long line of whipping boys, this tradition has lasted so long, I don't even know who the first whipping boy was. You had the likes of Driver, Ulanov prior to Poti. Of course there was Rosizval, who was memorable because he was actually good but played higher in the line-up, so he got more ice-time.... more boos.

Oooof, Ulanov. Absoulutely horrible at that defense thing. They also had Dave Karpa at the time that was worse than a turnstile. Driver was never a really likable guy and some fans couldn't get over the fact that he was an ex-Devil. Plus the way he carried himself he made it pretty obvious that this had nothing to do with playing for the Rangers and everything to do about getting one more big payday before he retired. Overall just a really bad look!

York enjoyed the New York night life. I saw him leave MSG after a game with two chicks, one on each arm. They got in a limo and off they went.

All 3 of those guys were shot by 35. Driver was such a shell of himself when he got here. He got his cup in '95 and his money in '96. Completely phoned it in after his first season as a Ranger.

Somewhat related. When getting Bure for $$$, didnt that help the Panthers in NOT folding as an organization. I think I remember them being in real trouble. Anyway, thinking crazily "outside the box", that wouldnt have been a good thing for anyone living here in South Florida. Flocks of Rangers, Bruins, Canadien fans here (Probably left out a few followings)
Wouldnt have been pretty, NO chance of going to see us live.

Personally, I thought he sucked.

The reason people didn't like Poti is because he was traded for a homegrown favorite, and was a B-level finesse guy asked to be an A-Level one.

Those kind of guys who are imported don't have an easy time in NY going back to the days of Willie Huber.

Personally, I thought he sucked.

He had one good year in 02-03 and that was because Leetch was out and he took all of the PP TOI. He just wasn’t that good and he was atrocious and soft in his own end. York had 2 productive seasons in Edmonton and another with the Islanders.

I don’t think either team really won that trade.
