In a vacuum, yes, as top 4D floor, it’s an ok pick even at 5OA. Considering there’s room above the floor, it’s ok as a pick.

Now… in a context of Askarov + Wood, or Michkov outright, or trade down for assets… the comparisons will always be tough. As they should. It will make or break this admin.

But as for Reinbacher himself, I’m a fan.
What about ceiling though? Why is no one saying he has No. 1D potential, which you’d normally see for a pick as high as 5OA?

Notice how no one is talking about Michkov’s floor. They know that he has top line ceiling.

Habs should invite, or even sign Mazden Leslie.

6'1, RHD put up 50 points. He must be absolutely terrible defensively to not get picked.

You'd never know judging some of the reactions on here. He will definitely have unwarranted extra pressure put on him,. There's no escaping that.

This fanbase is not the most rational one at the best of times.
If Reinbacher can’t handle pressure from the rabid fan base of the most storied franchise in the NHL, he’s on the wrong team.

He’ll be fine.

He'll be forged in the fire for sure. I just don't think he deserves the extra heat that will be put on him, due to dissatisfaction with his selection.
I don’t know that the dissatisfaction is directed at him.

It’s about the missed opportunity. Since he’s here now, we wish him well.

Hughes said that not seeing Michkov live factored into the decision not to pick him yet he said that he's only seen Reinbacher play through video and not in person.

He also flat out just said that he sees Reinbacher as a #2 dman not sure that he will run the 1st PP wave in the NHL.
Boy the shine sure has faded off him.

Feels like they just want to think they're smarter than everyone else. Big egos in that draft room.

Oh, I’m in full agreement. They went for « fit » + mitigation of risk. That’s how we ended up with him.

That’s why a lot are « upset », because there were higher ceilings available. My pet peeve will be Askarov… speaking of high ceiling.

I’ll never forget that roving camera shot of all of them at the Habs draft table, near immobile, just waiting for them to go up to the podium to announce their first pick. It felt eerie.

I was expecting him to say yes I do believe Reinbacher can be a star #1 dman but no he's basically saying what most of us think. He seems to think that Suzuki/CC/Dach can find a new gear offensively and be those PPG type players.
I don't think so. I don't want to contend with a Hischier-Johansen C punch.

Smug and cocky.

It's not at the moment. But you know it will be when he inevitably struggles in the future. Or when Michkov arrives. I'm not saying the more level headed of us will do that.
Yeah, we’re an impatient bunch but we also look at the minutiae. I don’t know, most prospects his age will struggle.

I disagree with his comments too and it really rubbed me the wrong way. He was looking for any excuse not to draft Michkov yet contradicted himself when he said he's only seen Reinbacher through footage. Can't say I'm too surprised, Gorton only hires his pals from the New York days who've done a shitty job to draft and develop and we still got a guy like Lapointe from the previous regime.

Massive amounts of hypocrisy: taking Reinbacher through footage, drafting other Russians through video, claiming in advance to take BPA and talent yet picking for need.....

Add in the Reinbacher #2 ceiling and Suzuki, Dach, CC being enough for contending. The transparency has turned to dishonesty. Kent is sweet talker yet a snake in the bushes.

Won't he be eligible for the 2024 draft also?

One dysfunctional and hypocritical GM to the next. Bergevin didn't seem to be as nepotistic as Hughes and Gorton; all they do is hire their buddies. Even drafting Xhekaj's brother with a fourth-round pick is absurd. He would have been available in the latter rounds. There is no defending this draft.

I constantly see people clamoring for a superstar, and we had a future one available at #5, which we passed on. I'll always be a Habs fan but my god I wish we had open-minded people leading our team for once. I'll definitely be watching more KHL/CHL in the next few years than Habs games, that's for sure.
