For someone who doesn't watch much basketball. Please give me a hockey equivalent to this Kawhi character lol.

So imagine Drew Doughty...now just make him blacker, faster, stronger, and 6 inches taller....Crap. That doesn’t work.

Ok so imagine Victor Hedman, just blacker, faster, stronger...crap.

Ok, imagine....you get the idea. **** off with the hockey crap.

He could still torpedo the trade by not showing up for his physical I guess.

What are the NBA rules if a player is not injured, but refuses to report/play, they could suspend him without pay obviously, but does their contract defer or slide? meaning he is still under contract, and has to play out the year?

people forget that while the playoffs were another humiliation, that that's not even the biggest picture.

the fact is there was a legit argument, even during the regular season, that the raptors were better off with Demar on the bench, and a legit argument that we'd be better off with VanVleet starting for us this year.

yes. it slides.

if he doesn't play for 30 days, he loses his free agency next year.

if he doesn't report to the raps within the next week, the raps can sanction him in other ways (or have the deal voided).

Man, look at all the flexibility the Raptors have on defence. This is going to be fun.

Also, our 3 point shooting was average-ish. We now have two more very good 3 point shooters. This deal is just amazing. Absolutely ecstatic.

Both are winners but if Spurs make the playoffs and DD chokes, don't say I told you so.

He's a very, very good player who had flaws. DD wasn't a player performer and Masai needed an upgrade. To keep our young base is essential -- this is great flexability down the road.

6 years of failure is enough for me, the core wasn't good enough.
That's what a lot of people don't get, they failed year after year in the playoffs.

Let's be serious, a good portion of "Raptors fans" care more about loyalty, then wins. They also don't see that DeMar was overpaid, and was a major reason why we failed in the playoffs.

If Kawhi walks in a year, I'd still have no issues with this trade.

I still think he gets dealt to the Lakers this off-season though. We'll see

“This team needs a change, going nowhere fast, rebuild is a must because they won’t win”

“Why would Masai trade DeMar for a top 5 player and fire Casey?”
Look, when people said they wanted things to be different next year, they meant they wanted things to be different without all this scary "change" stuff. :D

Kawhi + Drake to the Lakers for Ball + Kuzma.

You heard it here first folks

That's exactly why we have leverage now ... Trade for young assets.

People forget: ujiri traded Rudy, look what happened. Got rid of Barge, built this team thru drafting. I believe in development.

He now knows this core isn't what he thought it was.... Just keep building and find the right nucleus.

People really need to relax. Come back and speak to us how bad of a deal it is once the first quarter of the season is in the books.

The Raps have been attempting to become a lock down unit as a whole with offence that comes via the 3 pointer. Not going through DD all the time. Last season it worked in the regular season but in the playoffs its a different game. Lock down defense I needed as a whole and it was non-existent starting with DD being the main culprit.

I truly believe that this move is one that will work wonders for the Raptors. You have a group of players that can defend at a high level both in first and second units. When you consider you have Lowry willing to take a charge at will, Ibaka that is an inside presence to protect the rim, both Leonard and Green that have always played strong defense. Defense is contagious, others raise their games to what is around them. That couldn't happen last season because DD let us down way too much.

Add in players like Wright, OG, Siakam, Powell and FVF. All of them have defensive strengths as it showed last season. And all of them will get to learn from 2 of the best at their positions in Leonard and Green. Even if it is only for one season.

This trade will work wonders for the Raps. The growth of the team, but at the same time the ability to compete this season at a very high level. What do players like Olipido, Greek Freak, Hayword, or anyone else in the East do against the Raps when you have players like Leonard or Green covering you.

We have acquired proven winners coming from San Antonio for one last kick at the can. We all knew this was our last season anyways prior to it being blown up. But the Raps are in a better position now with Leonard and Green then they were staying put with DD.

The other part of this is that the Raps are the only team that can offer Leonard a max deal. If he opts to leave for someplace else he is doing it for a hell of a lot less then the Raps can offer. Worse case the Raps sign him to a max contract and then trade him someplace for pieces that will help with rebuild.

This is a win-win situation for the Raps. They got the best possible player for DD then they would ever get. Even if for one season, enjoy it. Stop complaining.

Stephen A. Smith is a phony. Has a big mouth and talks a big game without being able to back it up.

He's a weasel and knows nothing about basketball. Never has. His point of views on anything to do with sports in general should be taken with a grain of salt.

My grandmother always taught me " don't get upset, just realize who it is coming from and you will see that its just a waste of time"

That's exactly what Stephen A. Smith is.....a waste of time and waste of life. Good for ratings I guess.

I would've traded DeMar for nothing, and tanked. To get Kawhi even for a year is a steal.

Lmao bruh!

The media is mad as hell.

“You know what, and this isn’t a hot take; the league should fold the franchise and distribute the players to NY, LA, CHI and MIA. What’s right is right.” — the next hot take from an American media member

Why is Cris Carter getting on his Mark Jones bullshit. Butch needs to talk some sense into his lil bro.
