Has Kawhi said anything? Is there any reason to believe he won't spend another full season nursing his "injuries"?

I just don't see why Kawhi would put any sort of personal investment into this situation when he has made it entirely clear he wants to play close to home.

Is there any reason I shouldn't believe the Raptors just traded the face of the franchise for Steve Francis (i.e. a guy who wants nothing to do with the team that acquired him)?

Well if he does that when he doesn't actually have an injury, then the contract rolls over to the next year.

The trade for Kawhi was a contract dump pretty much. If the Raptors want to start fresh in 2020, Demar had to go. Lowry is basically untouchable because nobody will touch his contract so we're stuck for another 2 years.
This is simply incorrect.

I thought he had to pass a physical to even be traded also. Is there a way he can sit out and not play till he's traded to LA?

Everyone keeps saying the Raps got the better player and what a steal of a deal if Kawhi is happy, healthy and motivated.

Can we expect those things though?

Or is he going to sulk and 'nurse' the 'injury' for the next year as well.

Clearly Kawhi > DD but that's assuming he's motivated. He could come here and give a half ass 60% effort and miss 25 games. Until we see otherwise, I'd be VERY reserved for this move.

It's insane how much better this makes us.

Offensively and defensively.

I really can't believe it.

That really depends on Kawhi, if he plays and how he plays.

If he's smart, he'll come motivated to join a team that can make the NBA Finals. He can be treated like a god over here. With the Lakers, he'll always be in Lebron's shadow.

I don't even care if he doesn't sign with us, just hope he doesn't sign with the Lakers. There are already enough superteams being built. If he leaves, Raptors have to look in the mirror and tank. It's the only way they will ever become great again. No other way.

Pop said he expects to see Kawhi next week at the US National Teams camp.

I think that speaks somewhat to the health aspect.

half assed 60% effort is still better than DD tho.

Leonard is fine and will report. Masai isn't stupid, he has spoken to Leonard people and even Leonard himself prior to finalizing deal.

Why everyone is flipping their wigs I don't know.

Leonard is a Raptor, Green is a Raptor!!! The team is much better offensively and defensively. We gave up nothing to get him other then a loyal player that we drafted and tried his best for the city and organization. Thank you DD, we appreciate your efforts. But its a business, no hard feelings!

Saw this earlier and couldn't believe it, this should send a message to the rest of the NBA though! I don't have as much knowledge on the NBA compared to the NHL but we've replaced our SG with a younger albeit more injury prone one, that's defensively more responsible. I get the shock/anger since DeRozan was loyal to this franchise, but a shake up needed to be done, especially after the Cavs demolised us again in the playoffs.

also, Kawhi wants $$ and if he sits out 2 yrs in a row, no team is gonna give him anything about a vet min. So it would be financially, not in his best interest, to hold out 2 yrs in a row

Money has never been Kawhi's biggest priority

First String: Lowry-Leonard-Anunoby-Ibaka-JV
Second String: FVV-Green-Powell-Miles-Siakam
Third String: Wright-Richardson-???-???-???

The Raptors will need a new backup center and a couple of really cheap bench guys. They could end up using Powell as trade bait to get that center, so Miles shifts to the backup #3, Siakam to the backup #4, and then having someone new replace Poeltl as the new backup #5. Then just get a cheap #2/#3 to pair with Richardson and a couple of cheap #4/#5 guys like Noguiera was last year.
