Green’s a 3 point guy, right?

Scouting Report

AssetsAn exceptional 3-point shooter who can carry his team when he's in the zone. Underrated and staunch as a defender (and gets his hands in passing lanes). Plays his role very well at both ends of the court, and does the little things to help his team. Fluid, athletic, long, and hard-working, and able to slot in at several positions.
FlawsHis game often gets limited to '3-and-D.' Not a take-charge scorer who will create his own shot one-one-one, and isn't much of a passer for a wing player. Spends a lot of time on the perimeter, so isn't the factor he could be on the boards. Took awhile finding his game as a pro.
Career potentialExcellent '3-and-D' role player.

Great trade if Kawhi plays, which he will. Loved DD but they weren’t winning anything with him.

That's actually..a really good deal.

Protected 1st so if its better than 20th pick it turns into two 2nds..

I hope we can convince him ala OKC and George or can flip him to LA.

So I thought the point of firing Casey was to get someone who could manage the current team better with Derozan and the group?
As someone who doesn't follow basketball that much, how good is Kawhi and Green and are we giving up too much?

Like the trade a lot from a purely basketball standpoint...don't like it from a sentimental/emotional standpoint, Derozan seemed to like it here and I'm not sure if Kawhi will or if he will re-sign...a lot of risk involved.

Also really, really, really don't want us to ship him for Ball :help:

It's hard to judge the trade right now because there are a lot of variables still in play.

I've had so many passionate bad takes on this so far that I'm gonna look dumb when Masai either finds himself another star or flips him for some magic deal that only he can do

Wow... Sad to see Poeltl. Was really high on the kid. Sad to see Derozan go, really sucks. Lets hope in the long run this works.

You'll see a huge discussion on how good Kawhi is earlier in this thread.

In a nutshell, this is an excellent trade for the Raps considering:

1) Massive updgrade from DD to Kawhi
2) No OG or Siakam
3) Heavily protected 1st

If Kawhi plays, he's a top five player in the league.

Danny Green was thrown in to match salary and make a deal work. Good role player who is very valuable given his expiring contract. 3 and D, ~2 Vorp guy.

Depends, do you think a team headed by DeRozan was ever going to win a championship in todays NBA? If you think it was possible, then I'd argue you think they gave up too much.

However, I think 99.9% of people know that it wasn't going to happen. It was either big change or rebuild. This trade makes them more competitive today and if he leaves, should accelerate the rebuild process in terms of time line.

The Raps were never going to sell Demar to rebuild, it just appears obvious to me.

There is more upside than downside, and I really think flipping Kawhi to LA would be a good move as well.

Great deal. Love all the people who were bashing trading demar.. they ain’t talking now after the return

Lol anyone else think this is what it would have looked like on Twitter when the Leafs traded Clark for Sundin?

"sure we got a superstar and clearly won the trade, but......"
