how does this work?

are the NYR forced to carry him on their roster?

can they send him down to serve it in te3h AHL?

thanks in advance.

dude is trash

The Rangers can send Rempe to the AHL and bounce him back and forth if they wish.

He won’t be eligible to play until he has missed 8 total NHL games under suspension while actually on the NHL roster.

I'm sorry but that isn't ANY DIFFERENT to this hit which got NOTHING.

- elbow
- left feet
- took more than 4 strides
- player was unsuspecting and went head first into the boards.

Oh right...jersey is green this time! Got it!

Not the only difference, but the most obvious difference here is the lack of Elbowing on the hit you posted.

Even dumb people understand losing $80K, perhaps that is the motivation for him to change. Not so much how hitting fellow players dirty is wrong, just money lost.
Bro isn't in the league making the salary to lose 80K if he isn't playing like this though.

I guess he's paid his AHL money while down?
More importantly, what happens if he's just never called up (when sent down)?

About what many of us expected. Next offenses he's getting 20+ games and then 40+ a la Raffi Torres.
As he should, other leagues do a much better job of protecting their star players.

The Rangers can send Rempe to the AHL and bounce him back and forth if they wish.

I didn't look it up but my guess is that the AHL would honour the NHL 8 game suspension or behind the scenes tell the NYR they can't send him down if there is no rule.

The hit wasn't the same.

The argument now that a player got hurt or the elbow came up doesn't make the hit the same.
He got suspended for an elbow to the head. This hit had an elbow to the head. Everything else is identical except on this hit it was more numbers. But that's not why he was suspended. Both hits are a clear example of charging or boarding.

"A boarding penalty occurs when a player pushes, checks, or makes physical contact with a defenseless or vulnerable opponent and sends him dangerously or violently into the boards."

I know the Lybushkin hit was dangerously or violently into the boards because he ended up with a gd concussion on a hit he clearly wasn't ready for by a dude who took more than 4 strides and JUMPED into an elbow to the head.

Both should have been a suspension.

I'm all for physical play within the spirit of the game, because it's part of what makes the sport exciting, but when a player incurs so many misconducts or suspensions within such a limited number of games, it crosses a line into the unethical on both the part of the player and the organization that continues to give him ice time.

Accidents happen and lines are occasionally crossed when ultra-competitive, world-class athletes go 100% 82 times a year, but it's particularly egregious when the continual offender can't demonstrate the requisite skills that make 600+ other players employable at the highest level of play.

I'd argue that he should be given a probationary number of games within which any suspension would also incur a penalty to the organization, such a loss of draft picks. Else why not call up an ECHL goon and have him dive into McDavid's knees in the first round of the playoffs? The advantage is worth it for an organization, if you can just employ someone purely for the sake of injuring the competition.

Well that's because your eyes are closed. As the elbow extending out and following through is what drove the Leaf's head into the boards.

Because...ya know...players are not typically prone to smashing their faces into the end boards for the luls.

But you stay bias, chief. I know these boards.

It was and it does and I'm sorry you have anti Leaf bias. The picture of Rempe extending his chicken wing out to follow through with the hit, connecting with the Leaf's head as it smashes into the boards is exhibit A.

Tell me though. Does this quote describing boarding describe this hit?

"A boarding penalty occurs when a player pushes, checks, or makes physical contact with a defenseless or vulnerable opponent and sends him dangerously or violently into the boards."

We will call this description Exhibit B

You're obviously biased towards the leaf.

So I would chill out on trying to call people out on their biases.
I've got both video evidence, a still shot showing the exact frame Rempe's elbow connects with the Leaf's head and even the official description of what constitutes boarding. You? You've got your feels.

I think we are done here.

8 games for that? Wtf. Sure suspendable offense no doubt. But 3 or so games would b suffice not f***ing 8.

More comedy for nhl disciplinary folks

Rempe was suspended for 4 games just last March. He's been ejected 4 times in an NHL career that spans 22 regular season games.

3 games would've been a joke for a guy who clearly doesn't get it and has injured players.

Yes, the guy who drew 3 penalties in the same game he got suspended from can’t play hockey.

Hilarious hearing Devils fans talk about homerism when it comes to Rempe. Your team traded for a plug to deal with him because he rocked a few of your players last season. Your fans are spooked by him.
Spooked? Just worried about him trying to run Jack Hughes, Nico or Bratt, because he’s just a dirty useless goon. Since he’s now suspended, no worries because the Devils now have the players to deal with any cheap shot the Rangers try on our top players. You also should also be more concerned with trying to actually win the game.

Eight seems a bit light but I can see why it was set there. If he tries to appeal it it gives Gary/the Arbitrator the ability to laugh & tell him to suck it up & that he was VERY lucky it wasn't a lot more & that it will be well into double digits if he pulls this crap again...

The guy has played 5 (partial) games in the NHL this year, just over 30 minutes of ice time with 24 penalty minutes.

The guy has played 22 (partial) NHL games total during his career and now has 2 suspensions for 12 games total suspended.

The NY Rangers look like a Mickey Mouse organization having this player in the league and so does the NHL.

If the Rangers player development can't teach a guy the basic premise of how to play hockey then why in hell are they employed?

What if this player suffered a broken neck?

It was bad enough to see talented players like Paul Kariya and so many others have their careers cut short to the point they don't want anything to do with the league any more. You would think by the year 2024 that the league would have this under control.
