I'm all for physical play within the spirit of the game, because it's part of what makes the sport exciting, but when a player incurs so many misconducts or suspensions within such a limited number of games, it crosses a line into the unethical on both the part of the player and the organization that continues to give him ice time.
Accidents happen and lines are occasionally crossed when ultra-competitive, world-class athletes go 100% 82 times a year, but it's particularly egregious when the continual offender can't demonstrate the requisite skills that make 600+ other players employable at the highest level of play.
I'd argue that he should be given a probationary number of games within which any suspension would also incur a penalty to the organization, such a loss of draft picks. Else why not call up an ECHL goon and have him dive into McDavid's knees in the first round of the playoffs? The advantage is worth it for an organization, if you can just employ someone purely for the sake of injuring the competition.
