Marner for Phil, lol.

probably Andersen for the Eagle, Marner for Dougie, Holl for Leetch, Soup for Roberts, Engvall for Sundin, Gally for Clark, Simmonds for Tucker, Jumbo for Gartner, Dermott for Kaberle,

While I still prefer Marner to Nylander, for cap and balanced lineup purposes it would be Marner out, Tim Horton in.

Hyman for Wendel Clark
I think you'd see a much different Clark. The captain of destruction would not be allowed by today's refereeing. Wendel had the ability to put up much bigger offensive numbers had he not been injured all-the-time and played with a center like Gilmour for his whole career. 46 goals in 64 games is not too shabby. He got to play with guys like Zezel who was a 3rd line center at best. But we don't have a center like Gilmour on the team currently. I don't imagine you would want to put Clark with Marner as he might decide to hit Marner instead of the other team, based on principle.

And I'll take Marner for Gilmour. Ultimate spoiled brat for ultimate playoff warrior. Peak Gilmour is still the best Maple Leaf I've ever watched play since I started following the team in 1985. It was a short peak but it was very special.

Why in gods name would anyone ever think to do this?
Because when Mclement played for us he was one of the best shutdown Centers in the league and He was making a small fraction of the money Kerfoot makes. We need role players like Jay, making no more than a million, led our PK to be one of the best in the league and was able to shut down other teams top players.

Not to belittle Marner's OHL career, but he benefited from London having the resources to put out an OHL version of a stacked team. It's just easier to win there compared to most other places.
so did JT and he failed there as well

nah it's cause the ohl has no grit it's basically all star games. if the other team could physically affect him he would have turtled away.

I realized I'm still a Leafs fan. I just hate the core we have. You guys helped me realize I love the Leafs.
Ditto. Although I hate the GM far more than anyone else. Would I like Marner at the $8 he should be making? Probably not. But it would be a lot easier to trade.
