Just bored thinking about this. The only rule I'll create is that you can't remove a 4th liner and bring back a HoFer or something crazy. Just use common sense. If you're going to bring back a legend you have to remove a big piece.

I'm torn, because Mats Sundin will ALWAYS be my favorite Leaf of all time. I would have loved to see him on a contending team with linemates that are capable of sharing the load. Having said that, I think the team right now could most use Wendel Clark or Doug Gilmour. For that reason I'm removing Marner for Dougie circa 1993. I just think it's what the current team could use the most and I'd actually watch them play the 2021/2022 season if Rod Serling approached me and made this happen. Gilmour would only have a few more elite seasons because he gave everything he had back then. Mats would give you 10-15 years of consistency but this team needs urgency so badly. I think Gilmour would light a fire under the team, and the Big Mute especially.

If ya'll are too depressed to participate I feel ya.

Assuming we still need to be cap compliant in this scenario I would remove Kerfoot and bring back Jay McClement.

Don't want to do anything drastic. Justin Holl out, Danny Markov in.

Lol. Lou was shit for us. Gimme Marner for Dougie.

You think Dubas has done any better? Were only a few years away from seeing this team become littered with 5'7 160 pounders in his vision. Besides the Brodie signing, he's had arguably the worst calendar year any Leaf GM has had in recent memory, and thats saying a lot.

My pick is Mahovlich for any top 6 winger we have

No he wasn't. Lou lead the team and everyone fell in line. Look how much harder the team worked when he was in charge. Look how the Devils played when he ran the show. Look at the Isles... How much proof do people need? The team had a good mixture of skill and sandpaper with Lou and we almost upset the Caps/Bruins with him. When he left the team overpaid their core and turned into what we have now. If your parents leave and you're raised by guardians who let you do whatever you want it will mess you up later in life. Lou would never have handed Marner that much $$$

Say what you want but the team never half assed it with Lou/Babs. Current GM/Coach are just buddy buddy with the players and are just nice guys into analytics. They don't command any respect. I know on here you're judged on actual moves only but that is being narrow minded.

The team did not go any further. Spare me with this "they worked harder" silliness. Also Lou would not have given that much, he would have just given it to plugs instead. (Marleau, Zaitsev, Martin, etc.)

That's fine, we just disagree then. I'd go to war with a Lou team any day over a Dubas one. It's not surprising to see the Leafs on ice play resemble Dubas' appearance, while the Isles almost went to the finals.

Mats for JT or Dougie for Mitch I think. I remember Sittler at his peak and he may have been a bigger star than Sundin but he didn't age as well. Borje for Morgs is a good one because he was just the best Leafs D man of the modern era. I was thinking of Wendell for the scoring plus crazy scare factor but my guess is he would be getting suspended so often he would be ineffective. Good thread.

Just one makes this difficult. Marner for Sundin or Gilmour would be great, except that we'd now have three 1Cs, so I might go for Roberts instead. He always came through in the playoffs for us.
This is such a good pick. I loved Gary.
