Refs (again)

You’re probably right on the reasons, I just like the agitators in the game (when they aren’t playing against my team). For me and many others, it’s part of the fun, especially in playoffs. It’s a personal taste thing I suppose.

That said, if I’m a Vegas fan, then I’m loving him being tossed for 10 and the ref is 100% correct. 😅
Absolutely. I know what you mean. And I'll also add another part of that fun is seeing those type of players getting punished. Now, with Florida, a considerable number of their players were long overdue for receiving the referees' attention and scrutiny. It was fun to see and equally fun to hear the reactions of Florida fans complaining about the refs. Feels ironic to hear that from them.

I feel pretty comfortable saying this because I think Gudas is a POS and have no reason to take this position from an emotional point of view:

The fact there wasn't even a penalty, let alone 5 minutes + a game misconduct + a suspension over the hit on Gudas last night is appalling. I can't even see a lot of discussion about it so I guess everyone just accepts this? The reffing standard in this series is completely different than the previous three rounds for whatever reasons. Honestly, I'd be pissed as a Florida fan and I say that as someone still not happy about how my team (the Leafs) was eliminated by Florida.

I think this league has reached peak joke.

Penalty for what? Hitting someone before they hit you? Gudas came in hard to make a hit. And ran out of talent and got hit instead. You can't tell me Gudas had no intention of making a hit. He goes out of his way to always make contact. He simply got out Gudas'd.

In all seriousness, what do you think the penalty should be?

That hit is by the puck carrier but even still, skates on the ice, solid contact to the body. Head contact was unavoidable because Gudas was so low.

Here's the hit right after initial contact:

Hill not having a single penalty through the first two games is a joke. Game 1 he throws a few punches, a few with his blocker, which is by the rule book a suspendable act. Game 2 he full on slashes Tkachuck and gets away with it.

Zero consistency from the NHL and their refs.
Oh please. As a Kings fan you should know damn well that non calls for goalies retaliating over contact in the crease is plenty consistent. We both share a goalie that got away with plenty of it in his day.

My main issue is all those damn soft penalties to control the game. Even Tkachuk should not have had a 10 minutes misconduct. Reminds of the Tom Cruise movie "Minority Report". You penalize somebody in fear of what "might happen".

I'm guessing the refs had just told everyone "no more shit; initiate anything after the whistle and you're going". After which Tkachuk immediately tapped the stick out of Amadio's hand right in front of them, the equivalent of telling them "f*** you". I'm guessing that's what actually got him the misconduct. All speculation on my part, of course.

First, you’re giving way too much emphasis on how the refs are calling the game as the primary reason for who wins and loses. Totally ignoring in this current series that Florida has been wildly outplayed. In the Boston series, Florida was not outplayed. Florida also never got some miraculous edge in refereeing - they were routinely in the penalty box at all phases of that series. Save your revisionist nonsense, after it was 3-1 Florida received as many penalty kills in the final 3 games than they did in the first 4 games.

Claiming the way they got back into the series was just not being called for more penalties they were committing is an absurd take. In EVERY SERIES Florida has been called for more penalties due to their style of play and lack of discipline. Vegas has had ONE game with an anomalous amount of power plays, and it wasn’t even a game they looked particularly good in. Game 2 literally had 4 power plays for each team, quit your fake news dude.

Gaslighter.
Whatever makes you feel important dude...Only gas I light is on my BBQ grill but you do you and continue to name call like a 3rd grader. But tell you what...why don't you explain what gaslighting is and why you are calling me that...or are the stones hiding?

Lol ok, if you’re trying to make some cute ploy about your imagination of what it means to gaslight, I hate to break it to you but what you’re doing is gaslighting.

Gaslighting is attacking someone’s sense of reality and making them question the truth, typically by either denial or fabrication of preceding experiences. We are out here a bit flustered watching our team fall apart and wondering what’s gone wrong. Your whole point is basically a reinvention of the truth - we should “be grateful” that supposedly the referees weren’t calling penalties on us in the past, as that’s the reason we even made it this far, and now we are witnessing how bad the team has been all along. And after 7 PKs and a billion PIMs and an absolute ass beating in Game 2, a flustered fan might actually buy into the BS you’re saying and second guess the past three series.

I can guarantee you that you aren’t out there waving your hands up and down about this during those series. You chose this moment as your opportunity to introduce this, maybe because you get a little enjoyment out of it I don’t know. But the reality is your entire point is fictitious and not an accurate representation of what actually happened. You’re just making shit up and you have nothing to back it up (hence why you totally ignored the facts when they were presented to you).

"This is so unfair! I used to be able to punch a guy in the face 5 times after the whistle and now they're giving me a penalty after only 4 punches! I'm outraged!"

Your comment is basically like a caveman showing in 3000 where people live in spaceships and saying of course looking at someone should be a crime, I have seen what bashing someone on the head with a Mammoth horn can cause.

Nothing happened following the hit other than people grabbing each other.

Gudas went in to hit Ivan, lowering his head in the process, and it backfired when Ivan played the Reverso on him. Even a minor was not warranted.

What exactly was Barbashev supposed to do? Gudas was coming in to hit him. Either he has to just let himself get annihilated or he has to hit back. He keeps everything low, skates on the ice, and lowers his shoulder. Gudas, for some reason, approaches the hit as if he’s 4 feet tall. How is that on Barbashev?

Gudas simply f***ed around and found out. He’s got nobody to blame but himself for the fact that he got hurt. And there’s something especially satisfying about watching scumbags like him get the tables turned on them. He often plays with the obvious intent of causing injury to other players so it was nice to see it blow up in his face this time.

Quick question -- were those things actual penalties?

I think that delivering a hit, extremely late after the play is very obviously dead, is a penalty.

You may have to consult the rule book on this one, but I believe that's 2 distinct infractions on the same play. More than 2 really, but you'd have to reach a bit into the rule about players who are unsuspecting and therefore not eligible to be hit.

So using that as an example, a team can't complain if they get away with that sort of thing at first, then get called on it later. A penalty is a penalty. Getting away with it due to one ref's discretion doesn't make it not-a-penalty and out of bounds for any other ref to call it. If the potential for getting penalized is a concern, the solution is not to do that thing. If you want to play the hard-nosed game and take that risk, then you have to accept that you're making yourself vulnerable to penalty calls.

Direct your anger and frustration at Paul Maurice who can’t keep his guys under control and act like sore losers who wanna goon it up.

Best is Vegas just laughing at them and ignoring

Barbashev dumping Duckair on his ass with a reverse hit and drawing a penalty and getting him kicked out of the game was perfect microcosm.
Vegas has had less control yet are just not being called. It is a joke how fixed it is.

It was in the head area.....zero question is should have been five with 2 game sussy.

Learn the game. Not even close to being a penalty. I'm done responding on this subject. Nothing to see.

To all the Fla fans complaining that the refs are calling the game differently. Yes, that happens. All refs look back at game film to make improvements in their games. Sometimes they see calls they missed or didn't call correctly. And evolve the way they see/call the game. Panthers got away with a lot of extra curricular stuff in the early rounds. And I don't fault them for it. Since they got away with it. It's hockey, you gotta be as much of a rat that you can get away with. But you need to adapt your game once you start getting called on it. Fla hasn't adapted yet. Will they? Time will tell. Sit back and enjoy the run. Nothing like SCF's!

Making contact with a player's head does not automatically make it a penalty.

If you read rule 48.1 it'll explain how head contact was unavoidable due to the position of the player being hit, which makes this legal. There's no reason for a penalty, let alone suspension.

My Point...and I'll type slow so you can read it is and has always been this...Tons of people are complaining on here that Florida is getting the shaft...their basic premise of this is that the officiating has been inconsistent and that florida is now getting called for penalties that they were allowed to commit during all the other series...That is a FACT that is not a fabrication of the truth or any other cute bs you spouted. The only denial is coming from you towards my comments...and I will repeat them Because florida is now getting called for the things theyn were getting away with the first 3 series one has to wonder...had the games been called like this from the start would floroda had even made it this far...most likely they don't come back from 3-1 vs Boston if the game is called the way it is being called in the finals. THAT IS NOT GASLIGHTING...that is knowing the teams playing and knowing the game.
You say you're a frustrated fan...get it youre a panther fans fine...personally I'm a Vegas fan and am thrilled that they didn't call the game this way enroute to the finals and are calling it this way now.
Why is your team "falling apart" and "whats gone wrong"...simple they are playing a team that is vastly better than them( Like Boston) and the team they are playing is not buying the BS from the antagonist and actually are laughing in their faces all the while watching the parade to the box and ultimately the hot water...frustrating I'm sure to the fans who are sitting there wondering whats going on. It's simple...Youre getting beat by a superior team who is now living rent free in your heads all the while beating your ass psychologically and on the scoreboard.
If thats gaslighting fine...LOL It's also a fact.
