Our playoff fate rest in the hands of the refs. If they just called the game normally, there is no reason why the Leafs can't beat TB and BOS.

Two factors for me. Officials can't officiate like they're part of the narrative and don't want to be seen being partial to Toronto. This mentality is something you see in the media coverage that owns the Leafs. They want to be seen as impartial but end up being harder on the Leafs. Combine that with a little too much respect for Boston, and it's just bad calls at sensitive times.

Second. Leafs need to be mindful of the escalation game. Fair to say this team traditionally isn't on the more physical side of the spectrum but when the heat gets dialed up, be mindful teams that play that style know how to get away with things you don't.

I was under the impression that only major, match, or high sticking double minor penalties could be reviewed and overturned. Is there a list of reviewable penalties, or is it just whenever the refs feel like it?

Things I liked…Samsonov and the bottom 6.

Things I didn’t like…Rielly, Nylander, Tavares, Keefe, refs

Matthews cannot play in the top 6 with both third liners Jarnkrok and Bunting…only one.

O’Rielly and Rielly should never start 3 on 3

McCabe penalty should have been both…you know it would have been if the Bruin player was Bunting.

Not buying the thread title.

Refs were little to no factor. Overtime penalty was correctly overturned.

Schenn penalty was weak, but so was the McAvoy penalty.

Leafs played well. I'm encouraged. Bruins aren't some insurmountable, unbeatable team.
the thing is our stars cant play thru obsturction - at all.

A 5v5 practice and light touches we win the cup every year - the minute it gets competitive?

nah

all these Boston fans coming here to laugh at the leafs posters, shows how insecure you are about your team, might be scared of the leafs also, love being a leaf fan, we continue to live rent free! love this team in the big Smoke, go leafs go!

He actually had other shifts.

He cant defend worth crap and shouldn't be out against top players late in games.
That's simply not true. Rielly is the only Dman that can consistently get the puck out of his own end and it is nice to see he is starting to jump into the rush more often. This D crew is so damn inept and providing any offense, he is the only Dman who isn't completely lost when the puck is on his stick.

This game was the same script as last 6 years. Leafs play well. Make a bad mistake or 2. Top players don't produce. Lose. They are consistent.

Let's get one thing clear, the refs are not the reason the top 2 lines failed to show up tonight.
They kept the best team in hockey to one goal in regulation, that's way more than I hoped for.

Top lines showing up against big boy teams is why we don't win playoff series.

Marner & Nylander on the same line is madness, doesn't work. Top 6 is doing nothing right now
You're better off running:

Jarnkrok- Matthews - Willie
ROR - Tavares - Marner

bottom 6 plugs are interchangeable and don't really matter

This was still an experiment line up. Matthews will have either Marner or Nylander. The fact that his line still dominated with two 3rd liners on it is just gravy.

Cheap win for the Bruins after a well fought game. Thought it was a great tight game otherwise. Bruins are dirty as hell though. Crosschecks after every play.
Yeah its sad... because leafs could never do the same and get away with it.

So many fan bases will come read our boards and see these comments and hell... I'll admit of course I'm bias... but go look at the stats and actually watch Leaf games... it lines up.... refs are f***ed... and it's not just leafs either.

Certain teams can do whatever though... that's forsure.
