Because we don't have a good top 6 C, that's the problem. Thompson is playing wing right now and I'm not sure he'll fit in well with Cozens. Cozens was good on the wing when he was playing WC and his center was PLD.Why don't they try that then.

But if that's not a viable option it's not really a great backup plan surely.Because we don't have a good top 6 C, that's the problem. Thompson is playing wing right now and I'm not sure he'll fit in well with Cozens. Cozens was good on the wing when he was playing WC and his center was PLD.
Then don't make a thread asking for him? Seems pretty easy.
I suspect SY had laid out a couple different paths, the big two being the coach change the other being a big roster change (think block buster type trades) where several players from each team(s) change on teams searching for a better path.I suspect you're right. The coaching change probably has SY re-evaluating everything before he makes any moves.
Would agree 100%. I think the roster change was in the works before the Dylan Larkin postgame presser where he looked like he was on suicide watch or something. A trade could potentially still be there if things don't work out by the deadline, but things appear to definitely be on hold until further notice.I suspect SY had laid out a couple different paths, the big two being the coach change the other being a big roster change (think block buster type trades) where several players from each team(s) change on teams searching for a better path.
Once on the change coach path was made, the player changes went on hold, I suspect for at least 10-15 games, maybe even closer to the TDL. TM is evaluating everyone to be sure, and I suspect showcasing some a little to show what other teams may be drag out of them, but if things keep rolling for the wings (win or lose, sop long as they are playing f___g hockey), the trade(s) may become smaller, if any happen at all.
Personally, I am expecting SY to make very few moves (maybe a goalie will be moved for the right price) by the TDL unless the wings come off the wheel completely, or at one of his players/coach meeting the team suggests they need some help. (last year the team said they wanted to try as as the team was composed).
There's a lot of young guys out there, but probably no one like Cozens, physical, athletic, and fast. I wouldn't mind trading him in a trade, but not giving him up cheap or for futures. I'd rather see him on the wing with a competent top 6 C than just trade him cheap. But if that's not a viable option it's not really a great backup plan surely.
Like, sure, if Buffalo could acquire a top 6C in some seperate trade that might solve it. But bottom line is if they don't view Cozens as a long-term center he might be expendable to them (especially with that contract) given the fact they have some pretty good youth/prospect depth on the wings.

That isn't a unique set of skills, bottom sixes are filled with those sorts of players and they aren't making 7m+ a year. Buffalo's only hope is he returns to form because as it stands, if he doesn't show improvement, he's just an overpaid 3rd line energy guy. They're great to have but tieing up that cap hit in them isn't something to take a chance on.There's a lot of young guys out there, but probably no one like Cozens, physical, athletic, and fast.
