Game Plan for Thurs: Call up half the IceCaps and win 4 - 1

Ummm..... maybe lose 14-0.

I have to say we are dealing with the same issues here, a handful of players and too many floaters.

O'Dell should get a serious look as he is the best offensive prospect on the roster now.

Get to know Kael Mouillerat as the kid never stops in either end, and can contribute on any line in the AHL. I think he should be signed on a two way for next season.

To give you an idea of how good these two are together. They are on a line with Klingberg, and during OT last Friday, coach sat Klingberg, and played O'Dell and Mouillerat.

Can't fault Cormier's work ethic either. Amongst the vets Jaffray and Sawada are all out all of the time.

Mahachek and Macenauer are doing more loafing than a bakery, Maxwell often gets lumped into the same category, but to me is just having a horrible year, the work is there.

Klingberg is Burmistrov light. Some games he is invisible, other times there is a lot of flourish but little finish.

For all the Clitsome basher's out there, I thought he was pretty decent yesterday and probably one of our best players. James Wright brought his game as usual.

You can't be serious. He had a .850, for goodness' sake. The only goal that you could conceivably blame on the D was the penalty shot, for obvious reasons. The first two were clearly visible shots and the fourth was him way out of position.

I think this is the main problem. Pavs doesn't inspire our team to win. What's the point of busting your ass if your goalie is going to let in 2-3 soft goals every game?

I totally disagree, 2 or 3 soft goals a game is a bit ridiculous. Pavs has be solid for the past 8-10 games, he had a bit of an off night, but he has once again been our mvp this season hands down.

You can't be serious if you believe a D lineup that regularly includes Postma and Clitsome is of an NHL caliber. Those guys are 7/8 D on most team depth charts, if that. Clitsome is a waiver wire pickup that couldn't make a terrible Columbus team. Stuart was awful last night as well, Bogo didn't have his best night either, Buff is clearly playing while injured. The above is reflected in both the final score and the play of the goalie.

gump, it's a little ironic to state that when we lost to a team that 4/6 dmen started the season actually in the AHL.

I'll admit he ahd an off game last night, and was good for the stretch before, but he has in no way shape or form been our MVP this season.

you said it yourself he's been good fro the past 8-10 games. thats 10 of 22 games!

If a "solid" performance for 50% of the games is MVP worthy i'm at a loss for words.

To be fair to Antropov, it was only Burmistrov who was laughing. Antropov honestly looked like he didn't want to be part of whatever Burmistrov was telling him.

yup. agreed. I like how some are quick to jump on antro and not burmi.... burmi needs more maturing just like the other core guys (kane, wheeler). they lack leadership. don't get me wrong, ladd is a great captain but he doesn't strike me as a guy who would pump up the team when they are slacking. he leads by example. i really think jets need more veteran presence....

Honestly if anyone gets traded I hope it's buff for a center, move little back to rw, and the team starts to look alot better..

kane/stastny/wheeler
ladd/burmistrov/little

then next year get put mark in 2nd line center, the team looks like this..

kane/stastny/wheeler
ladd/scheifele/little
lowry/burmistrov/xxx
xxx/wright/peluso

enstrom/bogosian
hainsey/trouba
postma/redmond

doesnt have to be stastny, but we need another center imo

I'm not saying Postma and Clitsome are great. They aren't. But look at the goals. Maybe our D had a bad game, but it was the least putrid part of our team last night. Pavs let in three soft goals on 20ish shots. That is what is not NHL caliber. At least we know Bogo, Stuart et. al. CAN play better. I'm not convinced Pavs can. (at least consistently).

I'm not bashing Clitsome. I just wish he wasn't playing 20 minutes per night. He is probably a capable #6 guy but shouldn't be playing 20 minutes and slotted where he currently is. They need to change the makeup of the lineup, add some D.

He had a few solid games before the 8-10 game stretch as well. Id say Pavs has been solid for 14-of his 19 starts, he also played pretty good that period he came in for Montoya. The poor games he has had thus far have been the season opener, at Montreal, at Tampa Bay, both games at Florida, and you can debate how well he played in the loss at Philly. So ill say 13 of 19 solid starts. One start good, and 5 poor starts.

While we might only be 3 points out of a play-off spot..... we're also only 3 points from being dead last in the entire league. While I'm loathe to ever consider tanking for a high draft pick..... any of the top 3-4 prospects in the draft could become franchise type players.

This team needs a player like that...... we all know what happened the last time the Jets drafted the best player available..... (Hawerchuk)..... he turned the team around big time.

Jones, Drouin or Mackinnon could be that kind of player. Just saying.

To me, this loss hurt more than any other loss this season. This is the worst loss of the season. They have played worse games, like at the beginning of the season, but this was a loss against a division team that was ripe for the picking. They were outworked by a group of call-ups and only scored one goal against the worst defensive team in the league.

Maybe this one hurts the most because I'm starting to see the Jets team for what they really are. To be a playoff team or among the better teams in the league, you need to be consistent, and this team is anything but.

I'm a very depressed Winnipeg Jets fan today.

I think Cam Barker might have been a decent low risk pickup when he was available.

I agree with a vast majority of what you post - 99% of the time. An alternate view to the above however is that trades don't necessarily need to be made that are apples for apples. Sometimes change for the sake of change is what is required. Drop a Cormier into Burmistrov's spot last night for example and what you'd gain would be some compete, some battle. Burmistrov (and/or others) could go for picks for all I care. I'm not looking for a "shake up", I'm seeking fundamental change.

I hear ya (I think). ;) I'm not saying we need to get a top 6 forward back for Burmistrov or anything (if that's what I implied). I would rather get players back myself just because only getting picks just seems to lengthen the struggles of this team (I.E. I think we need to ADD more talent, not subtract).

But all that being said, if a return was a lesser player and picks, I could possibly, maybe, etc get behind that as well, as long as the overall return was justified.

I guess I just don't want to see us lose players for less than their value. When you're as asset poor as we are, I don't think we are in a position to be able to afford to turn what little valuable assets we have into lesser assets, or assets that don't improve the team.

Agreed. This is exactly my stance on this team right now. The talent level is right or on the cusp, subtracting from it for future talent is the wrong way to go. Switching that talent for talent in different areas/different kind of talent, is more the way to go imo.

that is what i felt watching it. It looked like burmi was laughing abotu something and antro wasn't paying any attention at all. antro looked down on himself.

which makes sense, considering the situation. that's something that's worried me the last few games - I know I have far less knowledge of the situation than anyone close to the team, but Burmistrov's effort has been worrying me... sometimes it just doesn't look like he's taking the game seriously.

Case in point, a few days ago (Maybe against Washington? I'm not 100% sure) right after the other team scored, he's skating back to centre ice and laughing it up with one of the opposing forwards. And then last night, he screws up and gets benched and instead of stopping and re-evaluating and taking the game as seriously as any team being embarrassed that badly should, he's making jokes at Antro who at least looks like he's trying to get his head in the game.

Again, it's not like I have any inside knowledge apart from what I get to see on TV, but despite how much I love Burmistrov, I'm starting to wonder how much he cares. Nobody should look that happy losing that badly. :shakehead

Also, I have to agree with Grind on the trade issues. Kneejerk decisions are never a good idea. I don't think trading any major players for picks or anything less than the best possible return (wherever it's needed) is worth it. Our team is bad, but talent-wise they have no right being that bad. While a shakeup might help get some focus in the dressing room, it seems a lot more like an issue of motivation than talent. There were a lot of guys floating around indifferently out there. Basically, it's not like this team was incapable of scoring more than once last night - they just need to TRY.

Ok i'll be "that guy" - whats missing in this debate is questioning Noel's coaching.

Obviously intra-game adjustments need to be made, players need to be coached on their roles, and players need to be (gasp) inspired as well.

I see nothing of the sorts from Noel during the periods, except moving 4th line players up and down in even worse line combos.

Although granted he has to play who he has to work with. Its re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic to a degree.

But does that sound like an MVP? A player that plays decently 2/3 of the time, and poorly 1/3 of the time? And almost never plays exceptionally?

That's a problem player to me.

To date, this is a group who just cannot, for whatever the reason(s), put it together. They cannot sustain a winning environment, approach, intensity, etc. Noel said it best last night when he referred to the team for some reason not being able to pull itself above .500 when they lead you to believe that they can and will.

2 steps forward, 1 step back. 1 step forward, 2 steps back. That's how this team carries itself.

Some random thoughts: Maybe we're just an average team in a league in which about 20 other teams are almost indistinguishable from us, in terms of talent. And maybe the natural result of so much "parity" is that most teams are constantly taking a step forward and a step backward and having a hard time moving from around the .500 mark. This is a league with a salary cap, which we haven't experienced before. It's not like 1979-96 when there were terrible teams we'd nearly always beat (when we weren't one of them) and great teams you barely had a chance to beat. Every game is a grind and every result unpredictable. Winning environments are for the small minority of exceptional teams plus a couple of the average teams that fluke out a lot of wins (as the laws of probability say will happen).

Agree on both parts, and would add Hainsey as a UFA defencemen will fetch a good draft pick this year on trade deadline.

I think a new coach is what we need.
Ruff would be a good fit & he won't be available forever.

The only guy I would trade is Antropov & they are only going to get a bag of pucks for him.
The Jets need to spend some cash & pick up some free agents this summer.

Agreed.

I don't hate pav's. I think he's got potential. but at this point, it's impossible to make an argument that he's anything but a sub par goalie without rattling off excuse after excuse.

Even if he was an average goalie, that should not qualify him as MVP.

My MVP? Ladd or Kane probably. Too many of our players have had to omany games off to seperate themselves as real MVP's at this point.

i would blame him for 3 of the 4.

Out of curiousity, which ones would you blame him for?

The only goal that I think he perhaps should've had was the first. Even then, it was a wicked release and came off a major lapse by Little. I have no idea how the other three could be seen as his fault in the slightest.

Yeah, I'm rough on the guy but even I think he has room for improvement. But how much improvement? This is the biggest worry. I haven't looked in depth but I have a feeling this Pavelec is no better than last year's Pavelec. And if he plateaus now we will not have a competitive team for 5-6 years, minimum. A good team can have a lot of faults, but a sub-par goalie is not one of them.
