Ondrej should switch glove hands and wear the blocker on the right side.

Boom. Shutout.

I think he should gain 700 pounds and just sit in front of the next.

Then we'd have a shutout every night! Yay!

If the Jets play the rest of this trip like they did last night, they'll face an angry home crowd.

There were some players who must have had too much beach time and not preparing for the game. I saw some tweets of the beautiful scenery... I guess the players forgot how to play on the ice or something.

Overall, a sickening game by the Jets. Claude Noel better find another level to his coaching style because his mediocrity is not going to cut it. Perhaps it's not his style to scream and yell behind the bench but he needs to show some emotion to get the troops motivated.

I dont blame pavs much last night, obviously the first one was weak, and they did expose his most obvious weakness on the penalty shot.. but you cant expect to win when you score 1 goal

my biggest issue with our goaltending situation as a whole: im not sure pavs is going to develop into a night in night out ace like MOST playoff teams have

it seems like pavs is good 50/50 or 2/3 or the time. and the rest he's average at best. i have no life and watch a lot of nhl centre ice. theres so many goalies that almost steal games single handedly for their teams every night. were lucky to get that type of shutdown performance out of pavs maybe once a month. thats what concern is

So it is an obvious concensus that Pav's weakness is his glove. It has been this year and last, and even though I admit I did not follow the Thrashers I am going to bet it was a problem there too. I wonder if there was a way to get stats on how many goals were scored on him glove side during his career.

I agree that you can not lay all the blame on Pavs. He will always be the scapegoat when/if a few weak goals go in. Such is the situation with every goalie in the NHL. The rest of the team did nothing to help him in either end of the ice.

My biggest question is if this weakness is so obvious to us and the rest of the NHL, why or what is being done to work on it. Maybe just tie his glove to the top corner.

His glove hand issues were noted on his pre NHL HF scouting report too:
Talent Analysis

On the downside, Pavelec needs to keep his conditioning in check and remain consistent. He allows a good number of goals through his five-hole and needs to play better in position when making the saves. He could still improve his glove hand and often he seems to have trouble on high shots. His stickhandling ability is rather average and some of his moves can lead to risky plays. He also tends to play too deep in the net, thus being more vulnerable to shots than dekes.
Conditioning.
5 hole.
Glove hand.
Stick handling.
Too deep in his net.
Vulnerable to dekes.

He has all the same issues 7 years later.

I agree.

Many hometown fans are quick to throw Pavelec under the bus.

It is not his fault that the team is losing all these games.

High glove works on most goalies in the NHL especially if they are laser beams.

I said it last night, and I will say it again now....

If those goals were scored by a Jet player this place would be like... Woah great goal.... Awesome snipe!

But having them them scored on us, it is a weak goal that should have been stopped.

I don't get it, what am I missing?

I saw one bad play (the one touch pass-turnover at our blueline).

Him and antro didn't look anyworse then anyone else out there, so i'm not quite sure why they were singled out.

This is what I don't get the guy is one of he best defensive players on our team, works hard, and plays physical yet he always gets sat. Then you have the veterans on our team who never get sat no matter how awful they play. I get the longer leash thing but come on. No wonder the guy doesn't have his head in the game. I'm beginning to wonder if Noel is a competent NHL coach his decisions in terms of line ups and coaching decisions are just mind boggling sometimes. Our special teams are pretty bad and we almost never make adjustments. He is a likeable guy and his interviews are great but I really am beginning to question if he is the guy for the job.

To be fair, they did get sat. LLW had TOI of a bit over 16 minutes last game, which was below their usual. Wright led all forwards in ice-time with 18:16.

I would like to see what Lindy Ruff could do to this team. Doubt it happens though

Exactly. Its frustrating when people don't want to lay the blame on Pav because we are only scoring 1 or 2 goals. When you have a weakness that evident, you are NOT reliable - you are NOT a great goalie. If Pavelec could stop more than 10% of those one-on-one battles I think it would bring more confidence and aggressiveness to our defence.

Yes we can be offensively challenged during streaks, but every team goes through these struggles. This is when you NEED a goalie that can win you those ugly games, steal a goal away, which is what ultimately makes them playoff teams. Pavelec cannot win those for us.

Well, Antro will likely be gone by season end. Yet if you read any of the weekly Burmistrov support threads here you can note that his enthusiasts all rave about his supposed "drive, hunger, passion, yada yada yada". That wishful thinking runs counter to what we all saw last night.

According to Lawless last season Antropov is the only one on the team that Burmistrov listens to.

Hopefully Chevy trades the both of them ASAP. Fill the holes with Cormier & Wright for now. Time to move out some Thrashers.

Says Gary Lawless a year ago.

No this loss isn't soley on him, but no loss sits on the shoulders of one player.

As for Pav... I don't care which shots Pav lets in, I just want there to be fewer of them.

The bottom line is a sub .900 is plain unacceptable.

The Jets D group isn't great, but they aren't the worst in the league. Plenty of teams have gross sloppy defensive units. Edmonton, Toronto, Columbus and Colorado come to mind. All of their goalies are putting up better numbers.

The Jets currently allow the 11th fewest shots against per games. No team does that while being completely inept. In Winnipeg the mistakes are amplified because almost every single one results in a goal against.

Statistically, and visually Pav compares more favorably to Steve Mason than anybody else.

This one is a gooder:

Pavalec had the worst numbers in the league last year. He continues to have the worst numbers this year. He has to be better than just making the saves he is supposed to make. We cant have a goalie who simply 'cant be blamed' we need a goalie who will win games for us. We will go nowhere if he is not at least an average goalie in the NHL. I don't understand how his play can be defended other than homerism. It isn't throwing him under the bus. He has been completely inconsistent and lets in at least one goal every game that he should not. When you are square to a shooter without traffic you need to make the save as an NHL goalie. No matter how good the shot is. How many excuses can be made for him. The numbers do not lie.

He needs to figure out the glove side issue quickly or we are going nowhere.

I don't get the hate for Burmistrov.

I don't get the love for Burmistrov, he's not a play maker or goal scorer, constantly turns over the puck and has no clue where to go with the puck once he hits the opposition blue line. Third year in the NHL and the guy has got to start figuring it out.

Plus side, responsible defensively, pretty good on the PK

 I hope that is sarcasm

I mean he was ok last season but he had some rough games (inconsistant is the word I am looking for) I just do not see him as a starter in the NHL at the moment as a vetern goalie.
