16 year old seasons:

Dahlin [SHL] - 26 GP, 1G, 2A, 3P
Liljegren [SHL] - 19 GP, 1G, 4A, 5P
Dahlin [SuperElit] - 24GP, 9G, 13A, 22P
Liljegren [SuperElit] - 29GP, 7G, 15A, 22P

17 year old seasons:

Liljegren (17) [SHL] - 19GP, 1G, 4A, 5P
Hedman (17) [SHL] - 39GP, 2G, 2A, 4P

Dahlin (17) - ?

(If you don't know, the best is SHL, then Allsvenskan, then SuperElit)

Just like everyone, i predict that Dahlin *will* be better, but there's no real definitive proof that says "Dahlin is ahead of Liljegren" TODAY. You can only base it on projection and eye test, which is obviously just as flawed as looking at pre-NHL stats.

Dahlin is definitely ahead today. Liljegren is a great prospect and very happy he ended up as a Leaf.

Brannstrom could've fell 2 spots.

And if I was Button, I'd be thrilled. But Leafs need a right handed D. Not more lefties so I'm pretty sure all of us are thrilled. I thought we could get Brannstrom. Never thought we could get Liljegren. Events just played out perfectly.

If were talking chances, there's a chance he doesn't even make the team.

There's a chance Trump nukes North Korea.

There's a chance it rains tomorrow.

Theres also a chance that Liljegren never plays in the NHL. Theres a chance that this past year wasnt a fluke and that he actually lacks high hockey IQ - a big chance that is.

The funniest leaf fans are those that think that Liljegren's better than Dahlin. Boqvist aint that far behind Dahlin in terms of ceiling, and hes already a waaaaay smarter player than Liljegren.

Is it just me or is this mainly an HF narrative pushed by select users?
Can anyone point to more than one scout saying there are big concerns around his hockey IQ or that its very low or something?

All I've heard/seen from actual scouting reports is something along the lines of "questionable decision making at times" which to me doesn't sound like the hockey-mentally challenged bust some people want to paint Liljegren as. Not to mention I think I only saw 1 glaring mistake from him in the 3 games of WJSS play I could watch.

Sure there is a chance. Just like there is a chance that Cale Makar is a mediocre talent who looked better than he did playing in a league full of scrubs and duds.

Agree about the over the top hype though its equally entertaining when Avs fans talk about Makar being the next Keith. I have never seen anything from him that says he has close to the same upside but fans gonna hype.

I know people that watch him a lot, and thats is a concern of theirs. Each time that I've watched him, it's something I've seen as well

I'd love to see some proof of this.

So you're going to paint the entire fanbase with one person's opinion? You said Avs Fans.

Go read the Makar thread on the Avs sub-forum to get a realistic opinion on what we think of him.

Why not? You don't seem to have a problem with it when JAS the Avs fan did the same thing.

I agree with you on Makar, that was a really risky pick that early on

Im confused...

Where exactly does Cobra say Makar is the next Keith? It's a stylistic comparison. The post even says how its unfair to compare Makar to the best dman of this generation. Seems as though Avs fans are the ones with realistic expectations for their prospects.

At the same age Makar is ahead of Keith that's why he was picked in the top 5. It's not insane to think he looks better than Kieth at 17/18.

I don't know why you're insistent on stirring up a pot that frankly doesn't even exist.

At 18 Keith already had a quality full NCAA year under his belt.

At 17 Keith had as good a year in the BCHL as Makar did in the AJHL at age 18.

Makar is clearly behind Keith at the same point.

Age is a little unfair to use here since Cale has a late birthday. As for actual draft year, it would be my opinion that Makar comes out on top. We'll see how Makar adjusts to the NCAA. For now I see no reason why he can't at the very least match the level of play DK had in his freshman year.

I didn't know there were so many fans who watched hockey in Europe on here. Aren't their games in the middle of the day? Yet a handful of fans appear to know the ins and outs of guys like Liljegren and Dahlin.

Why don't we all just admit outside of highlight reels and small sample size tournaments, 99% of this thread hasn't watched him significantly enough to either claim he has bad IQ and will bust or is the next draft steal.

But let's be clear about what's happened so far - in the only event since draft day, this wjc summer series, Liljegren looked as good as or better than the other elite prospect dmen.

which is exactly what leafs fans were expecting, and not what leafs haters were expecting.

That's 2 now arguing he's the next Keith, both in style and level of prospect ;)
