RD Simon Nemec (2022, 2nd, NJD)

He doesn’t play like Seider at all. He plays more like roman josi, if we’re talking potential comparisons with the elite defenseman in the nhl. However, I’d compare him most to Heiskanen
Wow Josi is one of the best Ds in nhl if not the best. Its like comparing prospect playing in europe to McDavid.

I never said he is going to be Josi, I’m saying that that style of play is how Nemec plays. He’s a 2 way defender who jumps up into the rush a lot but is not exactly a goal scorer. It’s like saying Jiricek plays a similar style to Weber, it’s stylistically comparing, not projecting their development. Dahlin was compared to Nik Lidstrom when he was in his DY, yet that hasn’t happened, it’s simply play styles that and projections will factor in when you are taking about potential top 5-10 picks. Why would you mention seider? He’s like 6 foot 4 and plays a very physical game, Nemec isn’t that kind of defender.
If I had to project I think he I has a similar developmental path as Heiskanen level of all things work out. They are typology very similar

What's the gap between Nemec and Jiricek like?

Are they both offensive two way D-men??
If you are Slovak, you’ll say Nemec is better. If you are Czech, you’ll say Jiricek is better :DD. Jiricek probably has greater upside due to his size combined with his skating ability and o-zone instincts but I believe Nemec is the safer pick. I don’t think you can go wrong with either, they are just stylistically different. Nemec is more of a puck rushing dman ala Makar, Heiskanen, etc. Jiricek has the bomb from the point but can also use his strength to get closer to the dots and shoot like Seider or Ekblad. The choice will probably come down to the teams core. I think Nemec would fit nicely to Chychrun in Arizona, while Jiricek could fit in with Hughes in Vancouver.

I don´t see any Seider comparision with Nemec. He reminds me Kris Letang likely the most.

Yes both Nemec and Jiricek are offensive two-way D but at the same time they´re completely different players. Everyone is better at something else.
Obviously, they´re in the same tier in this draft and both are likely in the top 3 among the best D-men of this draft right now. Many see Nemec as the best possible D-man but I would give small small edge to Jiricek.

What about for Ottawa

Nice slap from the point, was tipped in. Guessing the wjc team will employ a similar umbrella set up with Nemec up top. Chromiak to the left, Slafkovsky to the right, Dvorsky or Myklukha in the centre of the ice and Demek in front of the net/down low

Great performance today. Simon was everywhere, creating a lot of scoring opportunities. 2 assists and could have more.
Look at that pass ... 3:24. That Sramatys miss was an absolute disgrace.

If Nemec had the career of Andrej Sekera, would that be a disappointment? He has higher upside, but as a realistic outcome between ceiling and floor, would that be a disappointing career?

Nemec plays more cerebral to Letang and I believe more engaged defensively. Similarly to Keith.

Jiri reminds me of a more fluid brent burns or a smarter Subban(scary thought). Jiri's got insane potential, tbh. Much bigger bust potential.

His deft touches on the puck are already elite if we stepped into the NHL now. Disgusting read for the game.

He is the Qb of the first powerplay unit, so a significant amount and also plays on the first PK unit. Unfortunately time on ice for special teams is not recorded by the hockeyslovakia website.
that's a shame, but I think he should be one of the top defensemen off the board

Right now Nemec is third on my list after Wright and Savoie. He is just such a smart, smooth and skilled defenseman that he could definitely be a #1 defenseman in the future if the cards align.

And he's quite "safe" to boot given how well-polished his defense, his on-ice decisions are for an 18 year-old. A fact that is further enhanced by how well-rounded his game is and how small his flaws are as a defenseman.

To substantiate my claim a bit more, I believe that Jiricek maybe has a bit more raw potential, what with his ++ shot, better size/strength, and greater physicality while boasting a similar skill level. But I also think Nemec, given how smart he is with and without the puck, has a better chance of reaching his own fabulous ceiling than the former has of ever coming close to his, never mind hitting it.
