How good was Dahlin as a 17 yo? Would you consider him a franchise defenseman right now?
Do we usually know all franchise caliber defensemen at age 21?

Well, Albert Johansson is 20, and is probably more likely to never play in the NHL than be a "Franchise defenseman". And he has a long way to go before he has a meaningful NHL career. So that one is definitely a stretch and will rub people the wrong way.How good does an 18 year old need to be in the SHL before 'potential franchise D' is warranted?

Edvinsson, sure. I love him. He has sky high potential. Hopefully he reaches it.
I like Johansson a lot as a prospect. I probably like him more than most wings fans. Personally, I had him 4th in our offseason prospect rankings. But we can still have more realistic expectationsIt’s a stretch to say that Johansson is a franchise caliber defenseman, but you also went quite a long way to make it sound like Johansson is shit prospect.

I'm not saying he won't make the NHL. I'm saying it's really really really really hard to be a franchise caliber player... especially when at age 20 your fan base ranks you as your teams 7th best prospect.
Oh I don't think Albert is anywhere near that label. I was only referring to Edvinsson (and what I assumed was a response to Seider+Edvinsson being called potential franchise D). Albert is underrated but not THAT underrated lol.Well, Albert Johansson is 20, and is probably more likely to never play in the NHL than be a "Franchise defenseman". I would still say Dahlin is a potential franchise dman, but I guess hes done developing at 21 on a bad Buffalo team so he could never become one

I came here to read about Edvinsson but all I'm seeing lately is discussions on Dahlin and Johansson. Hopefully, I can find a Johansson or Dahlin thread to find out more info on Edvinsson.
Are you new to the word “potential”?How good was Dahlin as a 17 yo? Would you consider him a franchise defenseman right now?

the one guy trying to include Johansson with Edvinsson/Seider is not indicative of general opinion.Different meanings of "franchise D" I guess. All the power to you all if you think you have 3 of those when there are barely 10-15 franchise D in the whole NHL.
In for a rude awakening with such expectations
There’s one guy who thinks Albert is one. Two of the highest rated prospects in hockey clearly have this potential.Different meanings of "franchise D" I guess. All the power to you all if you think you have 3 of those when there are barely 10-15 franchise D in the whole NHL.

He is, plays LD on his defensive pairing as wellIsn't Edvinsson a LHD?
He doesn't really have glaring weaknesses when I watch him. He has all the tools in the world, his biggest weakness is probably knowing when to use them and when to make the smart boring play. But its only a matter of time before he figures it out. What is the knock on this kid? The whole package seems to be there.
