Bring him over as soon as his season is over, I'll need the jolt of energy as Razor and Seider will be old news by then :sarcasm:

I think we will see Edvinsson, Soderblom and Johnsson in training camp next year. They might not all end up on the Redwings but I think they are ready to play in either the NHL or AHL already.

I don't like the thought of manipulating arrival times, but Yzerman could really manage the hype in a positive fashion if he staggers the arrivals of Veleno, then Berggren, then Edvinsson comes over and Soderblom jumps to GR.

Oh and Cossa's season is over so he reports to the Griffins as well. And so on. And so on.

I think he is more interested in staggering the contract negotiations.

Confused why this says RD...

I was really high on him before the draft, he is starting to put all those tools together. A huge ceiling pick, Detroit has guys you can see as effective depth if they were just in better roles down the lineup. What is big about the last three 1st rounders is they all seem to have star power capability. Edvinsson is an enormous home-run swing and I like that Yzerman is doing that with his extra picks during the rebuild. Now we need to start getting better here, but there appears to be a plan and gambling on the Seider and Edvinsson types seem like a good idea. I think if he keeps it up, we pretty much have to bring him over for training camp next year already.

It looks like the Wings might have found their two horses on the back-end again. We know how important that defense was to the glory years, kind of lost in the wattage of stars up front was those D-cores were dominant for pretty much Lidstrom's entire career. We will see a long way to go, but I think Edvinsson is joining a really good environment. Mo looks more than capable of being able to anchor a #1 role on a team shortly, so Edvinsson is going to get to develop with lower stakes and all of those tools. I am fascinated to see where this goes.

He's played a lot of RD so far in the SHL this year but not sure if that's his preference or the teams.

Yeah I would expect the Wings are going to convert him to the left as soon as he heads to North America. I mean I guess it is good he can likely play both sides, just kind of how the Wings pool looks. Plus I expect they will attempt to close out games by pairing him and Seider together at times in terms of the long-term picture.

Do you guys project him to make the team next season?

I think he’s got a real chance to impress in camp and stick if he continues this path.

The only LD under contract for next season that is currently on the roster is Jordan Oesterle, and he’s probably considered the 8th defenseman on the team. Dekeyser is washed, Staal will be 35, Leddy is a potential trade chip this year.

Figure that Albert Johansson and Simon Edvinsson will come over and compete for a spot, and I’d actually say they have a decent chance at sticking. Yzerman will probably chase some free agents to compete with the kids.

People comparing Edvinsson to Ryan Suter is an odd comparison.
I think it only came up because someone was comparing the Red Wings having Edvinsson and Seider similar to Nashville with Suter and Weber. Edvinsson is a hard prospect for me to find a comparable with. He's got great size and skating, and while he can move the puck up well, his shot is below average. With that in mind, you don't need every defenseman to have a wicked shot, so he will still be effective. I've liked the Hamphus Lindholm comparisons, who gets under appreciated sometimes for his lack of offense, and the team he's played for.

This kid has alot of upside to be a #1 dman... and is progressing nicely. I like his game much more than Broberg. Detroit is building and prioritizing drafting the right way since dmen take longer to develop. Yzerman definitely knows how to build a team better than most.

Its going to be interesting to see who ends up being the better player...Edvinsson or Seider.

Think it’s quite clearly going to be Seider, but if he outperforms, Detroit is going to be a force.

What always stood out to me about Suter is his massive size, extraordinary skating, and how he's so active offensively , stickhandling, deep in the offensive zone etc.

Honestly? I think he's got a really good chance.

LD is a position of weakness for Detroit this season. DeKeyser will hopefully ride off into the sunset because he's not an NHL caliber player anymore. Marc Staal has been serviceable as our 3rd pair LD in limited minutes but he's probably a 15-16 minute a night guy tops now. And Nick Leddy is no guarantee to come back next season as much as I'd like him to stick for about 4 years.

Here's the list of UFA defensemen for 2022 as well.
2022 NHL Free Agents Tracker

So next season we could have 2, possibly 3 openings on LD. And I have trouble not seeing one of Johansson or Edvinsson stealing a spot in that scenario. There's also a chance that McIsaac and Sebrango make it but I still think Edvinsson makes it on draft pedigree alone.

If Yzerman didn't put Seider on the team last year then why would he put Edvinsson on the team next year?

Different circumstance, and Seider probably would have been in the NHL last year if not for the COVID start in January.

Seider went to Rogle and played the full year there which was part of the agreement. That worked out for the better with Seider because he was able to really hone his puck moving game in a way that he wouldn't have been allowed to under Blashill in Detroit.

I haven't seen Edvinsson this year (I obviously hear he is doing great) but he was still doing a lot of experimenting, last I checked. I don't see how you'd be any more inclined to bring him to the NHL in D+2. He'd be in that same situation where he'd be forced to play a much more conservative game early on.

That is an ugly list of free agents, I really want to resign Leddy now. He has been better than I expected.

It's part of why I was bummed Detroit didn't gun for David Savard this offseason. 2023 is looking pretty good, however.

My 2023 dream Detroit defense is this:

Leddy - Seider
Edvinsson - Cernak
Johansson - McIsaac/Sebrango (If they learn to play their off side)
McIsaac/Sebrang0 - Lindstrom

Hronek traded for forward help.

That's really mobile puckmovers on LD, lock down defenders on RD which is really similar to Tampa's last 2 championship teams.
