I haven't seen Edvinsson this year (I obviously hear he is doing great) but he was still doing a lot of experimenting, last I checked. I don't see how you'd be any more inclined to bring him to the NHL in D+2. He'd be in that same situation where he'd be forced to play a much more conservative game early on.
Yzerman saved seider from playing on that dumpster fire last season and once mo signed with rogle he was locked in their whole season. Edvinsson could have a slightly different situation if we bring him over to North America, maybe he doesn’t make the team right away but maybe we call him up part way through the year and the wings hopefully won’t be a complete mess. All depends if we bring him over or keep him in frolunda though.
And like ogee said, we will have openings at LD

Cmore studio commentators are apparently saying he could make the Swedish Olypmic team this year. I doubt it ends up happening but the fact hes playing so good over there that theyre even discussing it is a good sign for him

Edvinsson is dominating completely against Djurgården. Not just strong and a great skater, but he is looking even more skillful and creative with the puck than I thought he would. The passes he is making are unique and ridiculous, and passes that many players would not dare to think of.

On draft day I wanted Eklund more than Edvinsson, but seeing Edvinsson step up his game and statistics showing that he is being compared to Dahlin... Love it. I take back my words.

Wouldnt be surprised if he makes the team out of camp next season.

I was very much the same. I had Edvinsson as #8 on my personal draft board. But after seeing how much Edvinsson has grown and developed with consistent ice I am so happy. It's really hard to not see him as a top pair guy within the next 2-3 years in the NHL.

I didn't like this pick initially due to listening to too many internet scout nerds, but I'm feeling like a little bit of an idiot now. Simon, serve me up some crow, I'm ready to feast.

I’ll take hating the pick on draft day and being proven wrong in the yzerman era over hating the pick on draft day and being proven right during the Holland era 10 times out of 10.

I loved this pick on draft day, loved the Seider pick on draft day too.

Can I have my cookie now?

Seriously now, this kid is looking great! Hitting on D in the top end of the draft will make or break a rebuild. Mo and this kid could become a dominate force in the future.

Very exciting time to be a Wings fan.

What was the case against Edvinsson again?

His raw ability was always off the charts.

If I recall, some clueless people/hobby scouts questioned his decision making, comparing him to Oilers prospect Philip Broberg.
This was mostly based on a 1-2 U18 WJC games where he was so-so.

I wonder if we do make the playoffs and Edvinsson's season in the SHL ends, can we call him up as a reinforcement? I am not sure when the SHL playoff season ends in time for him to be available.

Does Detroit has some special power how to develop the prospects after the draft in Sweden as well?
Detroits picks just seem to keep rising. Part of it is scouting before the draft but part of it must be how they communicate and help to develop the prospects afterwards, I believe. Although there most of the times the player and it's club has the most say.

Niklas Kronwall. By all accounts he's doing a fantastic job with the prospects in sweden.

I mean his decision making has been his biggest question mark so far, it just appears to be much better than originally thought now that he has settled down into the league.

The first few games every time the puck was on his stick he would try to out skate the whole other team and drive the net, but the last few games I saw he has been making much better decisions about when to pick his spots.

Raymond wasn't that productive in Frolunda last year. His big step is now.

Frolunda's a top team in the league this year. They have a legitimate chance at the championship so their season probably runs to May.
