Height is pretty meaningless if not in the context of frame. Anton Volchenkov and Erik Karlsson are both 6 foot d-men. But I think it's fair to say their "size" is a bit different, with Volchenkov anywhere from 50-60 pounds heavier than Karlsson at the same age. I don't think too many scouts are worried about Andersson's size per se. Other things, sure.

Yeah, my problems with Andersson are not with his size.

I've seen him a few times, and when my rankings are done, I'm guessing he'll fall somewhere around the 3rd round or so. He's a very "stiff" player, there's not a lot that's smooth about him. He's not that great of a skater overall, he's not that good of a thinker - he does some pretty decent work from the offensive blueline in when it comes to decision making, but he's not a lights out prospect by any means. Not a top 50 player for me personally...

Basically going to be a steal for whoever gets him, assuming he falls that far.

He reminds me a lot of the CBJ's David Savard. Slow, lumbering type of skater. Wide body. Not overly physical or athletic but does a decent job winning battles. Very good offensive-zone player with a knack for getting wristers through. Good vision and hockey sense. With the right work ethic and some patience, he could be a good/ very good NHLer in 3-5 years.

The lastword on sports report says he is a very good skater though. They even put his style as a cross between Karlsson and Yandle type, meing he'd have to have fairly good mobility.

He doesn't. His backskating and lateral mobility are average at best. He's a very stiff player, I just can't help but use that word when describing him. Stiff, high center of gravity. Interestingly, he might actually skate better with the puck than without it. I'm not sure how that's even possible...he's a weird player.

There are conflicting views. We stand by our assessment of good but not great skater. Also Style is not talent level... or we'd have him higher than 60 if it was.

Now those you like his skating

"Smooth strong skater who is positionally very strong and able to read and adjust in his zone, along with his ability to contribute offensively. "

Strengths: Skating

Not as impressed.

Future Considerations: “A solid puck moving defender…moves the puck up ice quickly with a strong passing game…not a real skate the puck up ice himself kind of puck carrying defender…will join the attack, set-up at the point and contributes with intelligent passes and a shot that consistently gets to the net…a minute muncher…plays with a laid back, calm nature even when under pressure…shows good defensive coverage…could improve his staking going forward… good base and foundation skill set to build upon. (December 2014)â€

There is no real consensus out there. I will say that we've been in the rink and seen him personally a couple of times.

Yeah I feel the same way. Seems like a short strider. Doesn't cover a lot of ground.

I've actually noticed the bolded as well. At least, it seems that way at times. Definitely strange.

Really don't like his skating in general though.

He has the potential to develop into a dustin byfuglien player

Aside from being half a foot shorter and covering a lot less ice, and not really being overly similar, maybe. :sarcasm:

Yes, a very compact stride, not a lot of power in it. A lot of smaller Swedish forwards have this stride, so maybe he hit a growth spurt somewhat recently and he hasn't re-learned the body mechanics to compensate for it. Which happens.

This guy has played 92 games in OHL and he has 85 points.

Beast.

by all accounts he's been impressive. he looked poised and smooth in preseason and was one of the later cuts, seemingly a good sign for a player just drafted. why was he left off of the wjc roster?

Olass Mattson is the third best Swede D prospect on the Flames and made it before the other two, who happen to be playing in North America. Dont understand.

It is a coach thing, our coach is horrible and do always show his love for the more limited players, he has not been anything else but a disaster since he took over. Off course Andersson should be on team. They (him and kylington) could at least get invited to the camp, and if they fail to impress there it would be one thing.

However I do not think it has anything to do with him playing in NA, after all Olofsson made it, also Forsbacka Karlsson, Alex Nylander, Timashov. He do not shy away from taking players from NA, but he do shy little bit when it comes to offensive skilled players from NA. Last year he didnt take Timashov, Andersson, bouramman etc either, while he did take Bergman, Leon Bristedt etc.
