Dang, this kid looks big, mean, nasty, and talented. Wish the leafs had someone like him in the pipeline. I doubted Yzerman’s first round drafting decisions, but this pick looks fantastic
He got called up?Seider's 5 points from passing Voynov for #2 all time for 18 year old AHL defenders. 10 points off Sandin.
9 game stint in Detroit might keep him from passing Sandin. Still, not bad for a guy who supposedly had no offensive upside.
He got called up?
RHD version of Slavin?
More physical but thats the type of impact I think most wings fans would expect from him. A top pairing calibre d man that is a great defensive guy, can skate really well but can chip in 35 points to go with it.
Seider is actually hard to get a comparison for because off how physical he is. Byfuglien is a massive hitter/physical but is a big offensive guy (and outta the league as of right now I guess). Guys like Parayko and Slavin arent physical guys but check the other boxes. So I guess its easiest to say a more physical version of them is the best itll get
Weber without a cannon of a shot honestly might be the best you can come up with.
Yeah a 35 point Weber isnt a bad comparison either but those multiple 20 goal seasons from Weber are hard to get past. I actually dont think Weber is much of a hitter either. Hes a tough dman but hes more physical in the corners and in front of the net. Seider is a big hitter in the open ice and along the boards. Search Shea Weber hit on youtube and there isnt really any big hits that come up. Theyre both physical but theyre physical in different ways
no. I don't think that I caught Edler in his prime but I've never been impressed by his style of play.Prime Edler? Quite physical top pairing guy in his mid to late 20s.
I’ve been thinking of Mattias Ohlund since the Wings drafted Seider.Seider is actually hard to get a comparison for because off how physical he is. He signed with Tampa and then knee injuries ended his career.Whatever happened to Ohlund? Seems like he was a name and then just fell off the face of the earth.
Ohlund was pretty physical, no? Take a look at this thread from thee Canucks board:Ohlund seems like a good comparison in terms of skill-set and overall playing style, but Seider is definitely more physical.
Ohlund hammering Iginla repeatedly was fun to watch.
He was always well-positioned, and would punish anyone entering his area with their head down.
Best Canucks Dman of all-time, and I have been watching since they entered the league.
Loved his mean streak. Man alive, could he absolutely wreck people. Ales Hemsky can attest to that - I think he was one of Ohlund's most frequent victims.
I can't think of a better open-ice body checker who played D for the Canucks. What a beast.![]()
Favorite Canuck dman, he was a force to be reckoned with
Loved Ohlund, easily one of the greatest Dmen ever to play for the Canucks. Rock solid, tough as 100lbs of nails and sneaky scoring touch. He could do it all...
Great to see him again tonight and will look forward to seeing him up in the ROH every time I head down for a game.
Congrats #2!

That was earlier in his career in 1999. He had multiple surgeries and I understand his eye was never quite the same.He messed up his eye and never recovered fully I'm pretty sure.
Ohlund was a hammer out there too. Thats a really good comparison I think. Hopefully Seider is a little bit more of a consistent offensive threat but Ohlund was a 3 time Olympian that hit 35 points a few times and was a defensive stud

He was supposed to be much more offensive than he became. Projected to be like Hedman (or rather, Hedman was projected as a Mattias Ohlund type with realized offensive potential).
He played the rest of his career as more of an all-around d-man top pairing/top 4 dman, missing that smidgen of extra stuff that could have made him a Norris contender. You look at their career projections and the missed time/eye damage came right when Hedman started to trend into where he is now.
Ohlund and Edler are actually fairly similar. Edler is actually a pretty physical defenseman. Ohlund was just a bit bigger - closer to Weber's size, but Edler is no slouch.
I think Pesce is a stronger comparisonRHD version of Slavin?
