Why do you bring the Leafs into everything? You seem obsessed. I find it hilarious that someone compares Seider to a better version of one of the best defensemen in the league. It's hype out of control.
Watch him play and you'll understand why he's being hyped up

Apart from obviously never watching Seider, I’m more impressed by the ludicrous comparison of Parayko as a D to Kane as a forward. Guy must think Parayko is one of the best defensemen of the past 20 years.

Yes, the talent level of the #6 overall pick is nowhere close to a 1st pairing D

Just stop.

You're ignoring the easier point here, which is that his blind hatred led him to claim that Seider, who wont be 19 for another two months, isn't close to Parayko's talent level.

... Which is funny, considering Parayko's talent level at 18 must have been through the roof for him to be picked in the third round.

Because the chances of that happening are almost zero. It would be like saying Caufield is Kane with a better shot for example. The talent levels aren't even close. There have been 18 year old defensemen who have been 18 year old AHL D within the past 2 seasons who have produced at a better rate than Seider has without nearly the hype.

Except parayko isn't as good as Kane, and caufield isn't as good as seider. And a 6th overall pick becoming a 30-35 point top pairing dman is a lot better than a 15th overall pick becoming a 100 point winger who is considered one of the best American scorers of all time.

Obviously seider won't be parayko right now, but this is a prospect forum where we make predictions on the type of player prospects will become.

If you would like we can predict every prospect who isn't in the NHL directly after their draft will be 3rd liners and #6 dmen, cuz the chances they are sure fire stars aren't 100%. But I fear within a decade or so the nhl will be bereft of any star players whatsoever at that rate...and this forum wouldn't be very fun :-(

Piggy-backing off of this, I don't think it is at all unreasonable to consider Seider as potentially Parayko with + physicality. Once Seider fills out a bit and adds muscle he will at least be one of the hardest hitting players in the NHL. He is already strong like an ox and he is not even 19. And his hockey IQ and skating are good enough that he will at least be a bottom 4 NHL player. Projecting players is pretty much the only reason talking about prospects is fun, this board is called Hockey's Future after all, not Hockey's Present.

Seider has that Stevie Y touch look to him. An astute pick. His stats don't jump out, but first year 18 year old playing in the AHL is not easy. 2nd in team scoring for D men is nothing to sneeze about. He is going to be a player in a few years. Size and skill combination.

His stats do jump out if you think about it. A 18 year old kid moving from Germany to the US on his own and easily adjusting to the 3rd best league in the world, thousands of miles away from his family and friends. A completely different culture and language. Was one of the best players of the WJC-20 Germany team and has become a great player for a struggling Grand Rapids team.

Watch him play, he turnsaround plays and is capable of outmuscling men almost twice his age. He is a diamond in the rough but you can see him sparkling. Great skater and is a physicial presence. No doubt in my mind that he is a future Detroit Red Winger (or should I say Detroit Rote Fluegeln?)

Youre seriously overrating Parayko and your comparison to Kane doesnt make sense. Saying Seider is like Parayko with more physicality doesnt make Seider a better player, being physical doesnt mean youre automatically better it means your style is different. Having a better shot absolutely makes you better as a player not just a different style of player.

As for you getting all butt hurt about the Parayko comparison because hes one of the best in the league. Hes a great top pairing dman but he doesnt have close to enough offense to be one of the best D in the league. Hes never even been top 20 in Norris voting. He had 28 points last year and is on pace for 26 this year, hes one of the best shut down D in the league but the offense isnt anywhere close to enough to say hes as good as youre letting on.

Also, even if he is as good as youre leading people to believe..why would there be 0 chance of it happening? He was the second dman drafted in his draft and was a top 6 pick. Since the draft hes been amazing by all accounts in the AHL and absolutely dominated the world juniors. If theres a prospect out there right now on D thats tracking to be one of the better D in the NHL its definitely Seider. Draft pedigree and performance both match up to each other. I'm not saying hes better than a guy like Byram going forward but Byrams stats definitely dont match up with the draft pedigree right now for example, unlike Seider.

With all that being said, I dont think Seiders offensive game is going to get to a level to ever be considered one of the absolute top D in the league but Parayko is a perfect comparison. A top pairing shut down D that can skate effortlessly and his defense gets him recognition but not quite at the level of a Norris type player. Seider plays exactly like that but with a mean streak, its actually one of the better comparisons for a prospect that I've seen that matches play style pretty well as well as what they likely will turn into at the next level

Cant wait to see how he develops. Havent seen much of him since october but good to hear hes coming along nicely. Really liked him in traverse city and the rivalry he and Dach seemed to be brewing.
Should be a beast of a defensemen in a couple years.

I like how the idiot that went high on him in the first place tried coming to the rescue and then ran like a bitch once Mo turned around.

All aboard the... MOOEE TRAAIIIINNNN.

Kid is an absolute beast. He will be one of the most physically imposing players in the NHL in his prime. His offense is also very underrated; he lacks the high-end offensive skills of someone like Hughes but you can see he has great offensive IQ. Once Detroit puts together a solid offense I can see him putting up 50-60 points in his prime, a lot like Hedman.

Honestly Hedman is the guy he reminds me the most of. Or Parayko with plus physicality and maybe a bit more offense.

I really hope they just lock him in a room all summer and make him work on his shot.

It's really the only thing I see holding him back from being a Norris caliber defender.

He had quickly become my favourite prospect in years. My favourite type of player is someone who thrives in physical games and a guy who is competitive and gets mad but gets his retribution through clean physical plays. He’s going to be an intimidating force in his prime.

I do disagree that he will be a 50+ pt D though. I just haven’t seen that type of offensive skill from him, especially on the PP where the majority of those points would come from.

I see him as more of a 30ish guy with a couple 40pt seasons where he runs PP2 but plays monster minutes while being tasked to shutdown the leagues best

He is exactly that kind of player you wanna build a team around. High standard two way ability. And in addition to that a great mindset with some toughness and edge in his game. 40+ or 60+ points is really not what matters. Ryan Suter could be a great comparision.

He reminds me a lot of Trouba.

They are a ton alike in my opinion. Probably his best current NHL comparison. They both relish in the harder elements of the game while having tons of talent.

Other fanbases are going to dislike Seider in pretty short order. I don't think he will cross the line a lot, but I think he is going to thump a lot of guys over the years, which is very similar to Trouba.

It's really the only thing I see holding him back from being a Norris caliber defender.

He struggles at times on his backhand and you can see him avoid it and teams pressure him onto it. His wrist shot is pretty good, he doesn't have much of a slapper though.

But yeah I think as he fills out his shot power is going to go up. Also the hits he delivers now are going to have even more oomph.

I would think he could actually quarterback the first powerplay unit with the system the Wings are currently employing. The point man is around to distribute the puck almost exclusively. Just someone that can walk the line and distribute the puck. With Hronek on his left and either Mantha or Zadina on the right, he would record points by merely filling a role.

Yes but

1. I hope we have a new coach next season and a new system

2. I’d hope we have someone better to quarterback it
