What's a good NHL comparable (both in terms of upside and style) for Seider? Prime Suter?
A bigger, much more physical and mean Suter isnt a bad comparison IMO. Seider had guys bouncing off him with reverse hits in the AHL and SHL like he was Big Buff. I expect that trend to continue as well. I know guys in the NHL are bigger, stronger, and faster, but Seider is only getting bigger, stronger, and faster as well.

It's f***ing terrible. Especially that shot at 30 seconds in.:sarcasm:

His shot is pretty terrible, especially when compared to most NHL dmen. He pretty much never takes a slap shot, for that very reason. Yes, he can score the odd goal from the top of the circle, like he did at the 30-second mark in that clip, but he will never scare anyone with his point shot, which for a dman is unfortunate.

Not saying that he won't be a great player, but it is a very fair criticism to say that his shot is by far the weakest point of his game and something that he hopefully improves on.

I wouldn't say Mo's shot is terrible, but safe to say he'll probably never be performing in the hardest shot competition at the Skills Competition.

He doesn't have much of a slapper, but he's got a wrist shot that seems to have eyes.

I hate this trend where the better a player is the more any flaw gets picked apart. Bottom line is he went from 2 goals in ~50 games to 7 goals in ~40 games. He only scored one goal less (in 5 games less) than Gelinas, one of the best shooters from the blueline in the league.

When the expectations for a prospect go up so does the level of criticism. It’s just how it goes. Seider essentially went from a relatively unknown prospect, to basically a top 4 lock, to a potential Norris candidate in the span of two years or so.

If people are saying he is going to be one of the best in the league, people are going to point out flaws in his game. It’s been interesting to read this thread from the beginning.

Not every defenceman needs a hard clapper. Theodore I don't think has a big shot, but he's so good with a sneaky wrister.

There are not many young defenseman that project the image that they own the ice around them.

Good point, it comes with the territory. But still, the improvement seems to be coming gradually, he won't develop a Weber slapper overnight.

it's not a trend. He does have a weak shot. His shot may be improving, but it is a fair and reasonable criticism. It doesn't take anything away from him being a great prospect, though.

From what I’ve seen (a decent number of his games), his slapper is below average, both in terms of power and his ability to get it off (guys with great slapper scan wire it even under pressure or off bad passes, Seider only takes a slapper when conditions are pretty perfect). However, his wrist shot is above average - pretty hard and he’s good at getting it through traffic.

Worth noting that a below average slapper is really the only clear weakness I’ve seen in his game. Outstanding size/physicality, outstanding defensively, very good skating and hockey IQ, strong puck handler, calm/compared with the puck, doesn’t make many mistakes offensively or defensively.

His slapper isn’t great, but other than that, there’s a TONNE to like.

some concerns where raised that seider is dominating in a european league in physical play is one thing and that might not be the case in NHL where players are bigger and stronger, but he just showed today that he will crush people in NHL too, he crushed lots of NHLers today.

He dominated the AHL physically as an 18 year old too. That league has plenty of goons. And doing that at 18 projects pretty well for when he is 23-24 in the NHL.
