Now seems as good a time as any to highlight this. BTW, I was totally in the, "Hate this pick" group. Glad I was wrong.

GDT: - NHL Entry Draft 2019 - June 21st - Round 1 - 8PM

I was never really against the Seider pick so much as "surprised enough that i'll wait and see what happens with it" but to be entirely honest i'd still trade him for Zegras right now if I could

I think they're similar level guys and give me the Center any day in that case

As if a 25 minute a night RD grows on trees.

part of it is i'm less sold on the need for one of those as well

I think "def by committee" is a concept that works much better than center by committee"

the Wings have Edvinsson anyways who might also be a big minute guy on Defense, they don't have anything even remotely resembling a 1C or potential 1C right now

I disagree. If Soderblom continues to improve he has that potential.

Center and D are pretty on par for me. Think what tilts it for me is I see a better chance for Seider to be a Top 5 D than for Zegras to be a Top 5 center.

But I think both teams keep their player, and rightfully so.

At least the guy you wanted is still crazy good, I hated on the Price pick because I wanted Brule oops

At least you had your pick. I wanted Olli Maatta but we traded our first for Kyle Quincey.

Thankfully, Tampa didn't use our pick to take Maatta. They ended up with some bum goalie from Russia. Vasi-something. :help:

Seider has potential to be the best D-man in the world. Zegras will never, at any point in his career, come close to being the best center in the world.

But to clarify; I would rank Seider #1 and Zegras #2 from that draft so far, and I wouldn't have been bummed out by having Zegras on my team. But I'll take the potential top 5 D-man everytime over the potential top 10-15 center.

How was I stunned and annoyed that they didn't get Zegras back then! And Seider is even a compatriot of mine.

Gruß,
BSHH

I was a little torn. On one hand I was so happy that Seider was selected by a team I have always liked (same as with Draisaitl and the Oilers), on the other hand I had him somewhere between 10-15 and at 6th I thought he was a bit of a reach, and I was worried that he might not quite live up to that draft position and that Wings fans could hate him because of that.

During his draft year I was thinking that maybe Seider could become on defense for Germany what Draisaitl had become at forward, then Leon exploded for 105 points that season and I thought, maybe not, and as good as Draisaitl has become, I am back to thinking maybe, just maybe Seider could match him yet, even if that seems preposterous.
But while I followed Moritz' career so far, I have bet against him or been hesitant to believe in him too many times only to be proven wrong, so I have resigned to never say never with Seider.

I have said it before, now I am just leaning back and enjoying the ride.

Zegras might become a PPG center that’s top 15 or so in the league.

Seider might become the one of very few defenseman that all other defensemen in the league are measured against for over a decade.

For a while it was Lidstrom/Pronger/Niedermeyer/Chara/

Then Karlsson/Doughty/Keith/Hedman

Next it could be Fox/Makar/Seider/whoever else (if not Heiskanen then maybe a 2021 draftee)

I’m gonna take some heat but this but idc. You guys need to chill on acting like Seider is all but guaranteed to be a top 5 dman. Preferring Zegras over him really isn’t crazy at all.

Seider is already a top 20 D in the league. And he’s a rookie.

It’s time for people to stop telling Wings fans to temper their expectations.

“Defensive D at 6? Total reach. Brandon Carlo clone.”

“Ok good rookie season in the AHL but no offense. Won’t be better than a number 2 or number 3.”

“...Alright, showed offense in the SHL but how does that translate? Look at player X who was a bust after scoring a lot there.”

Many wings fans that watched his development have had to raise the bar for Seider each season. The kid is a special player and maybe more people need to realize this.

Such a great pick. When you're a rebuilding franchise you can't afford to miss on top10 picks. Red Wings getting both Seider and Raymond has turned their franchise around almost overnight.

Kinda funny that both Seider and Raymond have outplayed everyone picked ahead of them in their respective draft years, impressive.

I guess guys can regress obviously but ya, time for people to stop trying to stop the hype train at this point. Hes on his way to being one of the best D in the league. His only real question was if he would have the offensive upside to be a Norris type dman, because defensively hes one of the best dmen to come up as a prospect in a long time. As a 20 year old rookie, on a team without a lot of fire power hes already answered the question about his offense. Regardless of if he slows down offensively this year or where he finishes scoring wise, hes already shown he has the tools to be a very solid offensive dman at the very least.

If the season were to end right now, hes likely top 5 or so in Norris voting. Doing what he has done helping turn around Detroit with the bum Dekeyser as his partner is actually remarkable so far

"Temper expectations", is quite the hot take from the guy who just said Soderblom has #1C potential.

I said if he continues to improve he has that POTENTIAL. Not really a crazy risky take considering I put conditions in there that would have to be met first.

I’m a wings fan myself. Seider has had a great rookie season and has top 5 D in the world potential. But a lot of people are already acting like it’s a foregone conclusion. I suppose I saw the heat coming so I’ll take it.

As a Swede who has seen him play a lot I would be surprised if Söderblom plays any center at all. He is an out and out winger and always has been.

Fair enough. I’m excited for him regardless. I think he ends up one of those “he was drafted where??” picks
