His mistakes seem to be based on a little bit of overconfidence though - cute passes, hanging onto the puck too long. I think that will sort itself out soon enough. My only long term concern with him is footspeed.

Huh? Seider is a terrific skater. Both fast and agile.

THAT is concerning footspeed?:help:

Here's another one that displays his lead feet.

To be fair the guy questioned his footspeed and you linked a video that showcases his agility.
Well yes that, but also those are lesser leagues. The first clip also shows the guy from Kazakhstan easily catching up to him before he uses his body and the net to protect possession. He does that very well and is agile, but isn't that quick off the first step and it has shown a couple times in the nhl. A bunch of those clips are also big swoops behind the net with a head of steam. I hope he proves me wrong, but it is a small concern of mine.

These elite young D that are arriving in the NHL are amazing.
It will be very cool to see how they all do competing against each other. There are a few kids that look like they all might be all-stars in the league for a long time.
Seider , Drysdale , Makar , Fox , Heiskanen , Quinn Hughes , Byram , along with some that have yet to play but have the potential - Power , Edvinsson , Clarke, Luke Hughes , Bouchard , Sanderson , etc etc .
Redwings , Ducks , Kings , Devils , Sens , are all going to be powerhouses fairly soon in my opinion.

He's a big guy who can move the puck well so he doesn't necessarily need to be the fastest. Pair him with someone mobile (like Edvinsson) and boom, nothing to worry about.
Seider doesn't have elite speed, but he's certainly mobile.

It comes with the territory of being a highly hyped prospect, but there's quite a bit of nitpicking going on with him currently. He's playing anywhere from 20 to 25 minutes per game and varies between looking like a Norris contender on his best nights and "just" a Calder contender on his worst nights.

I hardly ever would watch Redwing games in the past 3-4 years. Now with this kid and Raymond...
I am not a Redwing fan at all but I find it very entertaining to watch these kids play.
It is so weird watching Seider. The way he plays , it looks like he has been in the league for the past decade. He is very poised , calm , confident and makes plays look easy.
He is going to be a stud . If Edvinsson reaches his ceiling as well... its not going to be fun to play the Redwings.

Sensitive much? The poster questions his foot speed and you dramatically act like he's saying his skating is trash.

Is that video supposed to be jaw dropping? I'd hope he can gain speed in open ice on a larger sheet.

His skating is clunky at times and so are his pivots. Overall his skating is well above average but it could definitely limit his upside. He doesn't float on the ice like a Makar or Fox and his stride recoveries look laboured at times, but it's not a severely limiting issue.

Kind of an over the top post. He's 6'3'', not 5'11'' like Fox/Makar, so of course he'll look a bit heavier than them.

Clunky and laboured? Kind of crazy imo. His pivots are so damn good..

+1, and I believe he’s actually 6’4”, not 6’3”. For a 6’4” player, his skating is outstanding, and a major strength. Top speed, acceleration, pivots, edges/agility, all of it terrific for a player his size. Of course he’s not on the level of two 5’11” guys who are both in the conversation for #2 skater in the league, but he’s a damn, damn good skater for his size.

One of my favourite aspects of his game is how he walks the line in the o-zone under pressure. He’s so smooth, quick and agile, rare to see for a big dude.

I gotta say, hearing someone say his pivots are clunky and laboured is one of the more outrageous takes I've heard about him. You have to assume its someone who hasnt watched him play when they say something like that

This kid has a blast of a shot. Hard and accurate. Scored tonight with such a quick shot and insane velocity everyone paused to realize if it hit back of the net or not. It did.

I'm sure it made Nick Lidstrom blush.

If Seider hits 50+ points this season the Calder is pretty much his unless one of the other forwards sniffs 90 points or a goalie plays like the next coming.

Raymond has been awesome and everything I hoped he would be... But what Seider is doing from the blueline is magic. And as many have pointed out, he's the #1 defender and he's not being paired with some NHL all-star. He's getting paired with dudes that are part-time scratches on most rosters. It's just been an unbelievable performance to the start of his career.

Even his production slips a bit and he ends with 45 points or something, I'm going full riot if the voters don't recognize he's the best rookie in the league.

Seider might not have the most points among rookies in the NHL, but he is the most impactful of the rookies for his team this year as the Redwing's #1D. That is his 2nd OT goal this year, after being played for 27 minutes TOI(nearly half the game) in all kinds of situations in this game.
