Yes , in a completely different generation than the vast majority of users in here can relate to . What he did is normalized in that generation. If previous generations had phones it would be 10x worse
This.

These types of charges are an epidemic right now in juvenile court systems. The access to phones, the desensitization to sexual matters that define modern adolescents is concerning. yes, this is common. I've seen 15 kids charged with this for passing around nudes of a girl. when they were sat down and explained they were facing potential jail time, they looked around bewildered and said "but everyone in this school does this sort of thing."

that's what we are dealing with.

Those 8 girls advancing the game for the NHL did not look impressed. Feel really bad what should of been a great moment for them turned into an embarrassment

Also. The fact that they released the Statement that quickly means that they were planning on drafting him for a while. And this was not a sudden change of plans for Them.

and that’s not a good look for them or the NHL

edit: given the fact that something like that (or any Statement by a corporation or team) goes thru layers of vetting and reviews (by their legal department and such.

Even if Montreal thinks he's changed or matured, which would be entirely unjustified given the limited time, did they really think this shock move would help Mailloux? Not only does he need to change, mature, grow, etc. but now he's going to be (hopefully) trying to do so while be constantly asked to justify and react to Montreal's decision. Is that beneficial to his maturation at all? Just dumbfounded by the logic here.

Maybe Montreal hopes he doesn't sign so they get that 2023 compensation pick

Kudos to Montréal for doing their due diligence and not shirking from acknowledging Mailloux' culpability for his action.

The self-righteous proselytizing on the part of the media and many critics does nothing to address the issue.

Give the kid a break....he is just a immature teenager....some of you are acting like he is a serial rapist....I think this was a gutsy and eventually an excellent pick by the Habs....

And if your daughter was the victim? Your wife? Read the f***ing room.

How do you think she felt about hearing his name called

It was a tasteless thing to do but it wasn't a 1st degree crime....he is just a kid...a stupid kid....I am not going to ruin his life because of what he did...if he had raped the young lady then throw away the key....but not over this...no way....however if this were to become a pattern in the future, then I would have a problem....but not for a one off event.....sorry.....

Canadiens likely figured that the thing he did wasn't serious enough to be still seen as a a big stain on his character by the time he is NHL-ready like 4 years down the line. I'm also sure pretty much every GM in the league has had several players who did much worse, so that probably gives them a different perspective on it. But they'll obviously take heat for it in the short term.
