A guy I've had my eyes on for a while now as well. Think he's likely to be available right around the Sens 1st pick the Avs acquired.

Depending on who's available and what we do with our own 1st, he could be a good choice for us IMO.

I wouldn't be against the Avs going all in on Defense again this draft and taking two in the first round.

He'd be a good choice for any team past 10 imo. Love his game

Not saying AVs shouldn't pick him but aren't your guys bigger issue LD? You drafted 2 RD in 2016

Yes and no. We're definitely deeper on the right side. But I'm generally of the belief that you draft BPA no matter what in the first round of the draft regardless of strengths. Only if two players are basically dead even in the eyes of your scouts should you start factoring in need.

Plus, Woo would be at least 1-2 years away if not longer. No idea what the structure of the team will look like in 2 years time.

Having too many high quality RHD is a great problem to have. It's the hardest position in hockey to fill and if you've got too many you can negotiate trades from a position of huge strength.

Saw a Rangers scout at the last Warriors home game with a laptop. He had some software open with a Rangers logo at the top of it so that's why I figure he's a Rangers scout. I casually stood behind him and saw he had Woo's profile open. Had a whole bunch of categories and looked like he was taking notes on his skating.

ya id imagine every team in the NHL has MANY reports on him... hes the type a team could go off the board with or else a type that could slide a bit.. All teams will have done a lot of homework on him cause who knows where he gets taken

Where is he projecting to go? Boston has a need for some RHD prospects, and if he was there in the 20's, I would love the B's to grab this kid.

Anyone think he could fall to the 2nd round?
Easily could happen. He’s had 2 concussions this year and hasn’t looked good since the first one. He was never really a clear top 20 guy at any point this year. Which almost always puts you in potential 2nd round range.

2 concussions? Wow, that's too bad I did not know that. Might be risky but could be a great pick-up in the 2nd round.

My thoughts on Jett

Jett Woo is another guy I've been watching a lot lately. First, I would like start off is that if you're a Matt Dumba fan...you're going to love Jett Woo. Very similar players as those undersized defenders who can absorb punishment and can move the puck with a good amount of skill. What one of Woo's outstanding qualities is that he has absolutely amazing gap control - he normally lines up players and uses his intelligence to separate himself at a perfect amount of distance to an oncoming forward. I noticed that when players went 1-on-1 with him, they tended to chip the puck past him to try and forecheck since they wouldn't have beat him any other way. Another aspect and probably his best quality is that his defencive puck skills are superb - his angles, pass blocking, and pokecheques are all in the great categories for me. He also likes to dish out big hits along the boards, but he tends to pick his targets instead of going after the Lucic's of the Dub.

Furthermore, another trait I would put in the superb rank is his skating - it's so effortless and fluid that he's able to jump into plays, but that skating ability really helps him in his gap control. One aspect which I want to see him conduct more (considering how good of a skater he is), is more lateral movement at both ends of the ice. He's a very north to south player and I suggest that if he decided to use his skating to a more elusive manner it would make his offencive game exponentially grow a thousandfold. One other facet which is a dud is his shot, it has got to be at Samuel Girard's level of danger and something he absolutely needs to work on in the future. I also think he carries a good amount of intelligence where it's enough to be considered a 1st rounder. His problems tend to come from the need to explore his game more, take risks, and work on his tools more in the offseason.

He is one player where I really want to see what his scouting combine numbers look like. Yes, I know we hear about the Sam Bennetts' and Casey Mittelstadts' of the hockey world where if you have the talent, the combine numbers are secondary. However, with Woo, he is in that weird phase where even being 200 lbs he looks quite a bit on the smaller side for a defenseman. He's able to absorb hits, dish out big ones, but for the most part I would consider him underdeveloped physically at this point of time (similar to Conor Timmins during his draft year). He also missed 30 games this season due to an injury telling me he needs to bulk up if he wants to continue to play his sort of style. Those combine numbers should have an impact in how scouts see him in the future because it will show how much of a project he is personally speaking.

I think you misunderstand Dumba's game.

-His defensive qualities and judgement were(and sometimes still are) a work in progress . It's his offensive game that has been his forte. You make it sound like Woo is the opposite of Dumba.

- Dumba has always had an absolute bomb of a shot, whereas you make it sound like Woo needs to work on his shot.

- Dumba isn't big, but he is by no means small, and is a physical specimen. Is even decent at fighting, though that's not something that you want him to do.

1) Trust me I watched Dumba for multiple seasons in the dub, I know he was a big risk taker in juniors. However, he has cleaned that part of his game almost a thousandfold. I wasn't comparing Woo to Dumba when both were in juniors, but Woo as he is now with Dumba as he is now.

2) Lets wait until Woo gets the physical maturity of Matt, when their shots could eventually become the same.

3) Woo and Dumba are smaller when you consider the average size for defenders across the league. Woo is in the same phase as Dumba was when he was in the WHL.
