They typical question, because8 am german.
I am sure the North American user see Ceci 3 times a week live.

Someone had mentioned a week or so ago I think it was that Brian Burke was seen talking to him after one of the games?

Probably some interest in him I'd imagine given the Leafs should be picking within range of him.

During one of the games the day before Leafs played in Ottawa. Ceci was in the press box with an injury.

Come to think of it, Ceci would be a great fit in T.O imo. Got Schenn like size but moves the puck much much better. If they do move Schenn, a guy like Ceci is much more suited for the Leafs system.

He likes to compare his game to Drew Doughty's. Obviously not on the same skill level, but style of play may be similar.

Interview.

Doughty is a pretty good comparison for him actually, though I've never seen him lay anyone out with a hip check but he's the type of D who can dictate the pace of the game and run everything from the back end. He'll get up in the play and lead the rush and gets lots of rubber through on net.

I <3 Ceci. I think he deserves legitimate top 5 consideration and is right there with Murray ahead of Dumba as well.

Ceci just scored his 12th goal and 50th point of the season on a nice wrist shot after sneaking into the play. Only Dougie Hamilton has more points on defence in the OHL.

lol seesee. Ceci is an italian name, no?
To him, it seems he is currently a bit overrated. Probably has the upside to be a Gilbert. Too weak defensively. Don't think the Oilers need another Gilbert. Perhaps with a mid/late 1st round pick.

One scouting service noted at the beginning of the year that he was one of the better Defensive dmen in the OHL with limited Offensive upside.

Truth is he's pretty good on the D end at this level. He needs to work on his foot speed and first step to be the same type of guy at the next level.

I've seen him a lot, and he can stop people effectively, noty with a lot of fan fare. Seen two games against Yakapov, and he shut him down. One goal, which was an offensive mistake not a defensive mistake (trying to carry the puck past him, what was he thinking). The game this year he matched Yakapov shift for shift.

I'd say do not overrated his O game for sure, but do not underrate his D. He's goping to be a solid combo D man at the next level, not great at anything probably, but no weaknesses either.

I do not think top 5, but certainly a top 10 would not surprise me, out of top 20 would surprise me.

I never liked the Doughty comparison. I think that comes from an interview about a year ago where he said he liked Doughty and modeled his game after Doughty. He is not Doughty.

Think of a player, say 6-3 6-4, 225, 230, 40 point max out potential, 30 point likely, good D, strong, physical but not punishing physical, and does not fight. I'm thinking something along the lines of a Philip Kuba, but definitely better in his own end (I see Kuba a lot too of course).

Pretty much agree with everything. I remember the exact scouting report you're talking about. The quote was something like "We know he brings a rock solid defensive game, but can his offense catch up?".

He's got good speed for a kid his size once he's going. That first step like you mentioned needs a bit of work but with his development curve there's no reason to think he can't fix that.

I've always used a Brent Seabrook comparison. He's not quite as physical as Seabrook but he will be the type of defenceman you can throw out in any situation. He can go out there and score or set up a goal or he can shut things down and be a rock in his own zone. Guys like this are extremely valuable.

I will try and find the report. But to reinforce, from future considerations :

"Over the past two seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, Ceci has proven his positional play and ability to play a strong defensive brand of hockey. He has always shown strong positional play and an ability to bin puck battles in his own end. What is still to be determined is his offensive upside."

"Ceci has mastered the ability to pinch at the proper times and knows when to hang back. He has already improved his mobility this season and should look to add more on the offensive side as his defensive game is already a strong point."

Its always funny about how a good defenseman who is not putting up big points is a good defensive player, but when he starts scoring they say the exact opposite, lol ;)

In any case Ceci is one of the best defensive D men in the OHL. I'm expecting that to translate pretty good to the NHL play if his foot work improves a bit (its not like he is slow, but its not shutdown D worthy yet). I believe his offensive game will translate decently as well. I still see a player capable of 30 points a year, 40 career high, who will not be a shut down D man, but will be strong and responsible enough he won't be a liability.

That said, he certainly has tools that few other players in this draft possess, namely no real weaknesses. Big, strong, fast, smart, good hands. Its always possible he has some untapped potential that the 67's are not bringing out that may yet appear.

I do, actually.

Question wasn't asked because you are German. It was asked because your comment was ridiculously ill informed. You could be based in Berlin, Kelowna, Winnipeg, Guelph or Halifax and I still would've asked that. Probably more in any of those other places, because I would've assumed the user had only seen the one televised game where he had a pretty bad giveaway to Yakupov for a goal.

But yeah, okay. Turn this around on me.

But even that gamed help show how valuably he is defensively. I miss very few 67's games, and what went down against Sarnia was interesting to watch from his perspective..

Ceci generally has been playing huge minutes, many times logging over 30 a game it seems. Out every second shift, every PP and PK. Against Sarnia though it was a whole different story. Much less minutes. The reason why is he only came out for the PK, PP and when Yakapov was on the ice. He did not take his normal shift. Effectively he waited on the bench until Yakapov hit the ice, then out he went.

Now I did not think he did the greatest job against Yakapov, but they are also on opposite sides of the ice. What it does say is that he is good enough defensively for the 67's (a very highly successful organization) to change their game plan up just to put him on one of the more explosive talents I've seen in recent years, and one on par with many NHLers in terms of speed with the puck. And the one point Yakapov managed was from an offensive lapse, not a defensive one.

I think just because Ceci is scoring people assume his D is bad. His D was solid long before he started to awake offensively.

Cody ceci

Anyone know why he is only rated around the 10th overall? He is big and has great stats....what's the scouting report?

he is not rated that high. if you watch his game he has holes in it.

He's pretty close to a consensus top 10 pick. You don't seem to like 67s. You're observation on Prince was wayyyyyy off and you clearly don't seem to watch a lot of Ceci. Just keep posting to up your post count there buddy.

He's older than most of the other players being a December-born player, not a huge factor but something that's taken into consideration. His inconsistent defensive game, lack of physical play and just "OK" skating sort of leave questions as to where he stands in terms of NHL potential. Great passer, big shot, but his stickhandling is also a big below what you would want from an offensive-oriented defenseman.

Basically, there isn't any one big concern with him, but he has a few too many areas that are considered just to "average" to be rated higher by some people.

he is rate 10 for North America not 10 pick in the 2012 draft. And I am not off on Prince. Time will tell.

Ceci may go in early 20 but not in the top ten.

Ceci is a good at everything, great at nothing type of player. He can be put out in every situation and do a good job. But as of right now he doesn't really have a niche. He is similar to a Brent Seabrook, or a Filip Kuba in that sense (of course with Seabrook being better defensively, and Kuba being better offensively). Ceci would be one of those solid 2nd pairing defencemen, on both the PP and PK.

Both will prove you wrong.

CCC83 will be picked 10-15 and will be in the NHL in October 2013.

Shane Prince will be in the NHL in October 2014.
