What is this NHL 19? Trade two of your top 6 because a junior college player is doing well?

I'm as big a Fox fan as anyone but trading Pesce- for the specific purpose of making room for Fox- before he has even played an AHL game, is nuts.

This fear of college players going to FA because they play more than 3 college games is wild.

The goal of trading Pesce or Hamilton is to acquire a quality forward, not to sign Fox. van Riemsdyk likely moves at some point in the short-term, regardless of whether Fox signs or not, being a 2020 UFA and McKeown getting closer to waiver eligibility.

My point is that Fox may be looking at more of an attractive opportunity in Carolina a few months from now than it looks today. There's a chance that he won't be UFA bound.

Based on what Fox has said publicly and what Waddell has said publicly, I'd say there's a good chance all this worry he'll go to UFA is for naught. I certainly don't buy into Waddell saying he's 99.9% sure Fox will sign, but I also don't think it's a foregone conclusion that Fox goes back for his Sr year to get to UFA.

Basically, I'll personally start to worry if Fox doesn't sign after Harvard's season is up this year...

Alright Pesce and TVR have nothing to do with the conversation, were going to take off the tin foil hats and were going to let Fox finish his Junior year.

Sounds good to me.

If he doesn't sign after Harvard's season I assume he'll be moved at the Draft.

I don't think you can hold it against Fox if he goes back for his Senior year. He'd be getting a degree from Harvard for God sake. If his NHL career doesn't pan out (I have my doubts) he has a hell of a degree to fall back on.

It's impressive what Fox is doing in the NCAA in terms of points production, but his skating and defence leaves a lot to be desired.

It’d be pretty easy to go back for the degree even if he were a full-time NHLer on a playoff team at this point, assuming the minimum credits accrued and the number of clinical credits allowed.

I’d very much agree with the sentiment that if he doesn’t sign with CAR after his current Harvard season is over next spring, he’s going to go to UFA. I hope the CAR braintrust doesn’t let that happen, just have to wait and see.

If Carolina wants to sign him I suspect they’re going to need to offer him a spot in the NHL sooner rather than later - whether he’s ready or not.

Calgary politically really couldn’t do that because they had both Anderson and Kylington developing in the AHL for years. Promoting Fox ahead of them with no AHL time would have caused headaches.

I think if he gets no guarantees, he’s just going to play his final year and go the FA route.

Harvard degree? Does it mean anything? [MOD] Good for Fox, for getting his degree and then do the "Vesey" tour and pick his team of choice. Might cost him a little NHL money in the long run, but Fox just might be thinking long term (the degree), and short term...signing with the team of his choice

Theres no reason for Fox not to go back for a senior year at Harvard. Getting a Harvard degree PLUS picking the team you want to play for? That extra 800k you are going to make isnt going to last forever.

You can always go back to school though. I have no idea about his economic background, but take the money now.

If he waits, he can choose a team that gives him a better shot to succeed. Carolina has a deep D core, so might be advantageous to go somewhere he can become a big factor quicker.

Really sucked to lose him on CGY, but we have other strong D prospects.. And Lindholm and Hanifin are looking like keepers.

wouldnt it be more tempting to go somewhere hed assume hed be the go to guy right away

where would his best bet be?

Pick any bad team with a poor D core. He may not win much at first, but he'll get plenty of NHL minutes.

His best bet is to sign with the Canes near the end of this year (burn one ELC year), start next year in the NHL on year 2 of his ELC, and be eligible for a big-money extension going into the potential lockout year. If he wants to shop his talents at that point then he can just pull a Nylander and have much more financial leverage.

This is what the Bruins did with McAvoy to entice him. He signed in 2016-17, played 4 games in the AHL, and started 2017-18 on the 2nd year of his ELC.

Word is that Fox would be close to completing his degree at the end of this year. The Canes are very comfortable with his development and expect him to be a Hobey Baker finalist. He is currently playing with another top Canes prospect in Jack Drury. The Canes AHL affiliate (Charlotte Checkers) is the #1 team in the AHL and will provide a nice opportunity for a Playoff run.

He should. If for some reason his pro career fizzles out, he'll have made enough dough to finish his degree. Regardless of what his financial background prior to the draft was

I think he'd be foolish to go to UFA at the end of four years at Harvard as there is a good chance of a lockout that year and then he gets nothing. If he finishes his third year and then signs with the Canes, he'll get a signing bonus plus burn a year for the remainder of the season if he can play with the Canes enough at the end of the season. Then, if he still wants a Harvard degree, he can do that during the lockout year. Win-win for him.

So should we just give him the Hobey Baker now? 20pts in 9 games is just ridiculous. He also has 5 goals in that 9 game span! I have not been able to watch him play this year, but those are some fantastic numbers. If he doesn’t sign with Carolina next year, he will be the highest sought after NCAA free agent that I can remember.
