I'd go with A-

We got 2 guys I wanted where we picked. The only small disappointment is not getting Kaut or Bokk at 22. Miller is a good high upside D man though

Kaut was long gone at that point. I heard the Rangers were high on him so they would have pulled the trigger. I thought for sure they were going to take Bokk when they made the trade.

Kravtsov seems like a decent prospect, good upside, but im always wary of Russians especially guys playing in the KHL . I just feel like they have a higher chance of busting. Also hate that the Islanders got Wahlstrom and Dobson.

B

I totally understand Gordie Clark wanting Kravtsov over Wahlstrom who can shoot but is referred to as one-dimensional. Still would have wanted Wahlstrom there but Kravtsov was not a reach at all. High climber with KHL playoffs rookie scoring records. His 11 pts trailed Malkin (15) and Afinogenov (16) from pre-KHL records while topping Yashin (10), Kuznetsov (9), and Nichushkin (9) rookie playoff performances. I still feel like we missed out on a player who is gonna score tons of goals. Sucks even more that he does it for the Islanders.

Miller I'm fine with. I'm willing to believe they had good intel that Toronto was gonna take him at 25. It seems supported by the fact that they were willing to swap with St Louis there AND drafted a defenseman in Sandin. I wish we traded our 70th instead of our 48th though much like how St Louis did for their pick or at least got a 4th, 5th, 6th, or even 7th pick back with it. There is gonna be a great player left at 48 we're gonna miss out on.

Lundkvist. I'm gonna hate spelling that. Just gonna call him Nils instead. Ok with it but there were other players I liked higher than him. This pick kinda depends on who we get at 39 for me. That sounds dumb but it does color the overall results somewhat. We should be able to get one of McLeod, Noel, Wilde, McIsaac, Thomas, Samuelsson, McBain, or Woo. Not sure how I feel about Berggren. I would love McLeod, Noel, or Thomas at 39. Hard to predict what the teams before us will draft like.

Nils was one of the biggest risers in the back half of the year. He's a good pick at that spot, because he's not going to be there at 39.

If one of Addison, Noel, Thomas, Ginning, Hallander, Woo, McIsaac happen to be at 39... you walked away with a steal.

I'd also keep an eye on Marchenko & Morozov in the later rounds.

This is what I wrote on Thursday:

“This is a critical critical draft coming for our Rangers. Could very well be a pivotal moment one way or another. Here’s how I’d like to see things shake up:

Zadina (longshot) , Boqvist, Kravtsov are all players I want with our 9th overall. Any one of those i’d be ecstatic. Wahlstron, Dobson, Tkachuk at #9 I would just be bleh/content, I will tell you why at the end. I would trade up to get Zadina. He will be the best thing that came out of the Czech Republic since Jagr. Boqvist — think Karlsson but better defensively and Kravtsov is a complete copy of Kuznetsov from the Caps.

With our 26 and 28 any 2 of these : Denisenko, Bukko, Mcleod, Farabee, Wilde. Would lean more to Denisenko, Mcleod or Wilde. Denisenko another world class talent, like a Kovalchuk light. Mcleod is a powerful, big, finesse centerman. Style wise think Charlie Coyle, Backstrom, Wheeler etc. Wilde is a big powerful towering D-men. Very quick on his skates and relentless in all zones like a Brent Seabrook.

All the guys I mentioned are high impact, dynamic players. They are game changers. No more Stepans, Hayes, Staals, Tkachuks etc. Not saying Stepan is a bad player but not much of what he does stands out at you. Sort of like how Lias Andersson has been. Great all around players but not game changers. The guys I prefer above are all potential dynamic, bring you out of your seat talents, and yes some may even be one dimensional.”

With that said, I’m very VERY happy with Kravtsov. I see a lot of Kuznetsov regarding the silky smooth game, possibly will be physically more stronger than Kuznetsov. I would give the 1st round a solid “B”.

A+.

Love Kravstov and Miller big time. Two potential home run picks.

Lundkvist is also very intriguing. One of the youngest players in the draft (he’s still 17). From the clips I’ve seen, he’s a smooth skater with nice hands.

this^ is closest to my assessment, went w/A-, b'c while draft itself is ore than very solid so far, we did not do enough beforehand to get mo betta pix.

Kravstov looks like another Kreider w/mo scoring touch. What's not to like.

Miller was fully worth it to move up a few slots. Great skating, like I East Crow said, strength, etc off the charts. And if I'm not mistaken, is a relatively recently converted F; while this suggests some under the radar offensive bonus/comfort, what it also means is the kid is a fast learner and imagine how much even better at D he'll be with more D grooming.

The RD at 28 was safe, but not nec. a waste of possible home run. Kid is 17. Fabulous on movement, which is important, and just developing a little extra lower body strength carefully, to not undo fabulous wheels, will extend potential excellence in his game. Can he shoot? Unclear, but if he gets enough on net = rebounds, I can live with that. It is not clear if we would have been lights out better with a legit PF, which couldn't hurt, but we clearly needed RD as well. Hoping the staff got it right.

Ollie W is beyond sick as a sniper shooter, but Krav is a much better physical specimen so higher across the board upside.

The fail is not with the picks so far, but that we could not score more BEFORE THE DRAFT.

I understand DET going w/Zadina at 6.
I don't see not trying Lias Andersson and a + for 'yotes at 5.
Shocked we could not reasonably overpay Vancouver for 7.

Hawks are all about the biz.
Was there no acceptable combo for 8OA?

My lament here is Dobson. This is very possibly McAvoy II.

Of course, when EDM sees how things unfolded, of course it is not gonna move 10OA unless Kreider is on the table, which we don't do. But I find it difficult to believe that we could not have done some combo of Pionk AND DeA AND Namest. or something like that BEFOREHAND.
That's a balls to the walls overpayment, the kind for which I am criticized, which is fine, but my point is if you want what we got AND Dobson, those are the kinds of moves you have to make, the chances you have to take.

peace out til later...

I gave it a B.

Really like the three players taken. So, I can't knock that. But I also can't shake the feeling that other than Miller, we probably could have gotten the other guys five or more spots later than we did. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know.

It just feels like while we got great prospects, we didn't necessarily get great value. Good value, but not great. But, what do I really know. I'm excited to have all three.

I don't know. I wasn't impressed with the trade up to get Miller. I just feel like even if Miller were taken there were guys who were just as good if not better there. I don't see how we could have been viewing him as BPA.

I don’t have a problem with the Kravtsov pick, we’ve complained for years about this team going for safe picks. My only issue is passing on Wahlstrom. If Wahlstrom was picked before us I really wouldn’t have an issue with the pick.

I think that the two are close enough that it could be a wash.

D- because we let the consensus picks go to our cross-town rival BOTH. With, oh a NEW Stanley Cup-willing GM and a new Stanley Cup-winning coach. I love all the typical "This will work out fine" thinking.

You heard it here first. Miller is the only guy who will play in the NHL and he will have a McLrath type stay. The other two are total reaches and will never even succeed at Hartford.

Love the potential of Kravtsov but would have preferred Dobson or Wahlstrom. Rangers had him ranked as the #2 forward in the overall draft plus some analysts say he would have gone in the next 3 picks so they couldn’t have traded down so I will trust. Was hoping to trade Zucc to get into the mid 1st round. Tough to grade because I have no clue if it would have been available or not. 48oa seemed like a steep price to move up 5 spots for Miller but the luxury of extra picks gives the power to get the guy they wanted. Lundkvist seems like a reach and reports of him being pushed around in his own zone scare the hell out of me.

B- but what the hell do I know, not like I have seen these players play, just reading scouting reports.

This mirrors my take very closely. Disappointed with Kravtsov (for now) being taken in preference to Dobson especially... and would have preferred Bouchard and perhaps Wahlstrom as well. Was really hopeful we could package something to get another pick in the early teens with a couple of those teams said to be shopping... doesn't mean it was there to be done, but was sad that was the apparent case. Fine with Miller's selection but based on the other trade-up in this round you'd think/hope a 3rd rounder would have gotten it done; dealing #48 seems an awfully high price. Don't know a lot about Lundqvist but what I read doesn't suggest much better than "solid" as an upside... and for "solid" I'd much rather have grabbed Mattias Samuelsson.

I scored this a C-, not because these are terrible picks necessarily but because I felt there were better available and was thus disappointed. Now I start hoping/assuming that the front office knows a crapload more about it than I do and getting over it.

Go be an islanders fan then

Voted b+. Would have voted a- if we drafted Wahlstrom over Kravtsov. Mainly because i was really high on Wahlstrom and really wanted him and was 99% sure we were taking him when he was available at #9... Dont know enough about Kravtsov though so its just that i really wanted Wahlstrom.
Really happy with the two late picks we made, but dont know if we had to trade up to get Miller.

The difference between the KHL and NHL is overated -- said no one ever.

Why because I am not a fanboy koolaid drinker? There is NO WAY this current NYR group has a clue. Let's see some success maybe? We are looking at a Knicks-like muti-decade long crap rebuilding process now that Dolan has his grubby paws all over it. These guys couldn't manage a boner in a strip club. I have zero confidence that these dorks wouldve picked Dahilin with the number one pick.

We are going to be Buffalo-type bad for a while.

Time will tell, this draft will always depend on Kravtsov vs. Walhstrom and since he will be playing for the Islanders we will have chance to see both players on a consistent basis.
