I also remember a certain poster who claimed that we destroyed Sandin's development, because not instantly banning him from the playoffs when Covid struck supposedly meant that he could never put on weight, and he would be doomed as a weakling until the end of time.

Looks pretty strong to me. :boredom:
I believe the argument was that it was a complete waste of time dressing him for the playoffs and having him stay in game shape for no reason. Nowhere was it said that he'd "never put on weight and was doomed to be a weakling".

The claim was that he wouldn't be able to put on weight and strength this offseason, and it was ruining him, which was clearly incorrect. It's not a "waste of time" to keep important depth in game shape for a playoff run, especially when the specifics of how the playoffs would look were so up in the air.

Such a beast.

The weakest part of his game is probably skating.. and even that is at least average. Looks like a young Mo, but imo with a higher potential.

His skating is not that great but he makes up for it with his IQ offensively at least. I just worry about pinches and getting back in time...I at least feel confident he knows what to do in 2vs1 situations...unlike Reilly who seems to have forgotten just about everything about defense this year.

This never got claimed. No clue what you're even talking about.
It absolutely got claimed. There was a whole big discussion about it, and then it turned into false and misleading claims about when defensemen typically reach the NHL.

His acceleration is not great but his edges and lateral mobility are amazing.
The real strength is his ability to control the play. As he gets better he will be a general on the ice always in the right place at the right time type thing, speeds up the game when needed or slows it down when needed

I’ll vouch for Deke’s here and say I saw that take too. Don’t recall who it was but that was definitely an argument that was made.

Nice read by Sandin on the Tavares goal. Saw the line change on the 4/4, Poolman (#3) seemed to forget it was 4 on 4. Sandin expoited the weakness..win

I remember one poster on here specifically saying Sandin was too small to play and Dubas doesn't know how to draft.

Wonder what he has to say now?

I remember listening to the 1st round of that 2018 draft on a radio stream (TSN?). Every pick got glowing reviews with every positive aspect of each pick underlined repeatedly. It seemed like the greatest draft in league history. Then came the Leafs' pick, Sandin, everything was negative about him other than his bravery on the ice. He was underskilled, undersized, average skating, overconfident, weak, needlessly reckless, worn down by the opposition in the OHL playoffs, his stock value was dropping and on and on. That sure didn't age well.

Any idea who the hosts and analysts on the radio were? Or was it just the NBCSN broadcast given through radio?

The analyst was someone labelled as an amateur scout. I thought it was something streamed through one of the Toronto sports radio stations (I guessed TSN). I've tried to find it and can't.

Don't know if it's in their developmental philosophy in their youth or what have you but Swedes seem to produce smart D Men.

As long as he maintains a strong defensive focus, the fast transition and PP QB potential will be a bonus.

One change I would like to see from the D on the PP are more shots from the point. In general, more one-timers from all players. I'm not sure he is a shot threat. Even if just a wrister, we have been lacking this on the PP.
