The Kings are successful now and unfortunately that attracts a different kind of fan in addition to all the hate. For years the identity of these boards was largely based on being consistently let down, which is when a majority of the old-timers joined these boards. The thread traffic was easier to navigate back then.

There has been a slight change in the quality of posts over the years, but the information is still here... so I'm not complaining. I've never posted often and lurked a long time before doing so, but a lot of the names mentioned are familiar to me. (what about TubbyTerrion?) Visiting the boards eats up a lot of time, of which I don't have much anymore. I suspect that is the same for many.

Additionally there are other outlets for information. Before I would come straight here for breaking news, but I joined Twitter and there are other avenues satisfy my craving for this info. I still come here, but not nearly as often as I did 10 years ago.

I'm with ya. I wish I could say what I wanted to say about this without fearing warnings or bans, and that is a major part of the problem. The tattle tales and whiners won.

If you feel like you or anyone have been wronged in any way, you can contact a different mod or one of the admins via PM and we'll look into it. Feel free to PM any of us. It's not a conspiracy. We're all human and humans make mistakes all the time.

You and I have both been around here for 9+ years. I would think anyone would feel comfortable at least bringing an issue to my attention or any of the other old-timers here.

I concur!!! :handclap:

You too.

Neil from LGK use to bug the hell out of everybody. I miss when CBGB use to go ballistic when the Kings would lose. Was a good laugh.

SuxbeingU, Kingsjohn, AEGwillnotwinthecup, Diehard, Hatter, Captian Ron, Reaper, Tikk, XVkings, bad91, CBGB, Ziggy, and of course my boy Herby are old school posters that have been on here or LGK for quite some time.

Anyone remember Azagoglich or something like that? Guy was a straight nut case.

What happend to Neil? The stuff that guy would come up with back in the day, hilarious, he was trollin when trollin wasnt easy (actually it was easier but still) lol.

No need for pitchforks. As Tony said, if you disagree with a particular mod's style or want an alternate view, feel free to PM a different mod. We are human.

Right. I'm not going to get into this, because it is not a battle one can win...when anything you say contrary to the moderators interjection is considered abuse. Come on man.

Not true. You're more than welcome to disagree with a mod or decision politely and via PM (and unlike referees, we listen and can take action on it). Obviously, you can't paste your disapproval all over the boards. Will leave this here for reference:

17) Moderator Abuse (Attacking/Disobeying the moderators): If you disagree with something the moderators did, fine, disagree and let us know, but do it politely through PM or email ONLY. Complaining on the forums is not permitted. If your thread or post was moved/closed/removed there was a good reason for it. Do not start a new one. Attacking or flaming a moderator via PM is subject to a Moderator Abuse infraction. Be respectful and considerate. Profanity and abusive conduct isn't tolerated.
Do not plead the first amendment and cite your right to free speech. It does not apply to the private sector. This is a privately owned website. Dancing around the rules, purposely skirting them just to see us twitch will not help you out much, either.

If you're talking about a board that is NOT the Kings board, keep in mind they are neutral boards and thus much more sensitive than this board will be--but we have little/no sway there.

This board is relatively unfiltered. I mean, the basic site rules are don't be a jerk to others, attack the post but not the poster. I personally take quite a few steps before it goes all the way to warning/infraction to make sure people understand why you can or cannot say something, but blatant personal attacks that don't add to the discussion get blasted on sight. It shouldn't BE a battle.

How do we PM mods or anyone else when the result of the 'infraction' is to have our PMs turned off?

[email protected]

I wasn't aware that we could go to another mod, to complaint about the other. I wished I had known about it back then. Is it too late to complaint about something that went down from a few years back? ;)

Like others have said, having differing opinion with one mod, served me with an infraction and left me with a bitter taste in my mouth. And like others, I stayed away from the board for awhile. And believe me, I'm not the type that will complaint about a ****in infraction, as I deserved EVERY single infraction, EXCEPT one.

But those days are gone as far as I'm concerned. We're allowed to have fun again. And if we do go off tangent, we are given every warning possible, prior to receiving an infraction or a thread being locked up. I guess you can say it's just more consistent these days.

I use to be a lurker a few years before I joined in 2010.

(Personal opinion) The board today has much more information (prospects and such) then it ever has.

I enjoy reading here much more than I use too.

Shameless plug for Diablo 3 Expansion Who is getting it ? and are you playing the Crusader ?

I have to laugh at this notion of "moderator abuse." I am an administrator and actually I am the founder of a basketball forum similar to this and created with vBulletin and I get abused all of the time!

And sometimes by my own moderators!

It seems a little looser here. Probably also because I don't go to the main boards. I would get infracted for something stupid by a moderator of a team that will remain nameless, other than its on the Pacific coast just north of the border. It was clear I was being infracted simply because I was a Kings fan. So **** it, I stopped going to the main board years ago.

No, I'm talking like 10 years ago, assuming you had the same name on LGK. Yeah, pics of you and your wife....weird.

Ten years ago I was 21 and an idiot, but you must be thinking of someone else. My ex wife has MS and had it since she was 13. We've never ran on a beach. The only pictures that were ever shown on LGK at the time were from Mike. He would take dozens of pictures of us at each event and post them. He thought my ex wife was gorgeous. I never posted personal info or pictures at the time due to people digging and wrecking me. Hence the name "no name".

There is a town in CO that is called "no name". Neat place. I thought maybe your name came from something like that.

Whatever, it's all silly anyways. Like I'm going to waste my time complaining to some other dude who has a power-trip...for what? I don't lose sleep over an internet message board or any 'infractions' I get from posting on it. I've been targeted from day one because my opinions don't seem to mesh all the time with the majority...it's cool. I will continue to post what I want and when I want to...if the dictators on this board don't like it, then I guess then can ban me. Either way, i'll find a way to move on without killing myself.

Seriously, how hard is it not to get infractions? Just be a reasonable human being and not attack someone for their own opinions and ignore the baiters. I got an infraction once because I lost my cool and I freely admit I deserved it.

If this was a forum where you could say anything to anyone without repercussions I would have left a long time ago because that kind of behavior gets old real fast.

If we didn't have disagreements, there would be little for discussion. No one is stopping you from having a dissenting opinion. But we can disagree without it crossing into personal territory. No one here has a target on their backs.

I don't want this to derail and completely focus on moderation discussion, but I want it to be very, VERY clear that dissenting opinions are more than fine (even encouraged) but that there is a very obvious line we don't cross. That's all. Edit: though yes, if you can't tell the difference between "my opinion" and a personal shot, you're gonna have a bad time.

I may have to actually get into twitter. How do you get someone to follow you if they don't know exactly who you are?

If you're just trying to see what they're saying, you can just follow them, they don't have to follow you (though if they have a private profile they'll have to approve you).

For me personally, I don't tweet much, but I've found it fantastic for up-to-the minutes news and scores, though like many other mediums, you have to filter garbage (pretty easy if you don't follow lame accounts).

It's also a pretty nice way to keep up with folks when you're off the boards/on vacation etc.

It isn't that hard, but like you said, we all lose our cool from time to time. I don't think anyone really wants to see some crazy ****, like "I'm gonna come to your house and murder your whole family" (And yes, a lot of us have seen that on a forum before) but also in the same since, we are grown as men for the most part.

In the long run, whomever I have had disagreements with, I have gained respect. The people who I have wronged, I tend to seek out and apologize. The people who I've never even met, who I could call my (Internet) friends, I get ya. I get most people in a lot of different ways. Do you get me? If ya don't, I wonder who and what kind of people you hung out with or grew up with.

I know where I stand with the people I respect here, and really I always did because there used to be a way the men handled things. And after more than a decade of listening and talking ****, and hockey...love ya too man. And that goes for most everyone who is still here. I'll buy ya a beer, we'd chat and we'd laugh about things, but it can never get to that point if...

You don't stop calling the police every time you get butt-hurt I'm a man. A human. I make mistakes. I can admit it. But we can never get to that point, and grow, if you call the cops every single time.

Honestly, you are going to love this. I was in my posing suit practicing my routine. I'm now sitting on my couch taking a break. My girl is about to shave my legs. Snapchat ya later ;)

Mac day. LOL. I don't know why I flashed to that.

I'm here, make sure to send this pics this time!

And that is the reality of life. If you've ever beaten anyone up, and aren't a total psychopath, you feel bad. I know this as a giver and a receiver, so just saying.

I punched a guy in the face during a beer league hockey game a few years ago. I ended up getting booted from the game so I never saw what happened to him. Somebody told me later on that he had a tooth knocked out. I felt horrible about it. But, the guy blatantly tried to hurt me for no reason and then charged at me after I got up off the ice. At that point, I felt like I was defending myself and although I didn't have to punch him in the face, it was my first reaction. All of my teammates said I shouldn't feel bad but I'm 33 y/o and the last thing I want to do is hurt somebody. Especially doing something I do for fun.

Imagine a puck getting chipped to center ice out of your own zone and lands near the red line on the board. I'm clearly going to get to the loose puck first as I'm the first person out of the zone including 4 of the guys on the other team. He is coming from his own zone (off the bench I presume) and instead of skating backwards to play defense, he starts skating straight towards me. I immediately noticed that and suspected the worst so I changed the direction I was skating towards to board instead of the middle of the ice. He basically tried to cut me off at the boards and the blue line and lay into me. He missed but swung his leg out and I went flying. It was 100% knee on knee and I was baffled why he would do this. As I get up and ask him what his problem is, he just starts charging at me and I threw one punch right to his mouth and we both went down. We both got thrown out but I never got an answer from him why he did that nor did I ever apologize. Long story short, I'm too old for that ****. There are few things in life worth (fist) fighting for and words are not one of them.

I'll never forget the time I was threatened with violence by a well known fighting connoisseur on our very board. Now that was just a tad strange because I got the impression he was very serious. I went ahead and gave him my seat location at Staples but never heard from him. Maybe he realized he would look like a complete idiot going to a hockey game to start a fight with a dude from the internet who happens to be a fan of the same team. Un-frigign-believable.

There is a guy who used to post here that threatened to kick my ass. He sent a PM of what he looks like. He was about 5'9 and 280 pounds. It looked like he may have been a strong, tough dude at one time but he's about 60 now. The response was because I made him look foolish about making up stats in order to make a Kings player he didn't like look worse than he actually is. I kindly apologized in the PM and wished him a good day. I could have been a tough guy, sent him pictures back and exposed a little bit about myself but that is just silly.

Now there was a time when someone on LGK was really messing with me. He was harassing my business, disrespecting my wife and calling me things that I couldn't tolerate. I was not a good guy at the time and certainly not someone to let that stuff slide. He told me to show up for a roller hockey game so he can kick my teeth in. I waited until 15 minutes after everyone was supposed to be there and I walked in. He was there but he slipped out. According to everyone he was talking all sorts of trash about me to everyone. He then disappeared from the message boards entirely outside of a post or two a year. Everyone that knew him turned on him for it and he told everyone he was too busy making money in the porn game and didn't have time for message boards and forums.

Almost all of those folks are still around, they just don't post as often. JDM (and Zad) have their own blog now so understandably that's where their free time for online BBS's is spent). Fugu practically lived on these forums for years - understandably that isn't sustainable long term.

Others mentioned such as DIEHARD got too busy with work to spend as much time here. I had season seats for years near DIEHARD (and DH Jr.) and they are still around and kicking. Terrific, passionate fans. Sometimes life gets in the way of posting on forums.

There are also other mediums for info now that didn't exist in early 2000's - Twitter, Facebook, etc. - all have come about in the time HFBoards was around.

There's still a ton of great discussion around (the "Kings will win a lot of games soon" thread alone is loaded with really thoughtful, terrific insight from posters here). Ask thought-provoking questions and you'll get thought-provoking answers.

FWIW, the forums are more active now (in terms of users and posts) than they ever have been. Just different faces.

thanks for the updates on diehard and jr. I have met them a couple times when our seats were close and I was wondering if there had been a health problem since he doesn't post anymore and we are of similar age and you never know, still see JDM and ZAD up in the 300's a/ways having a good time..............I know for me this place was like a godsend when I found it shortly after I found LGK which I didn't enjoy as much, people on here normally had good opinion and I was actually able to talk to other kings fans and discuss a team we all had the same passion for and in some instances had been around as long. Living in LA is wasn'tt an easy place to find a hockey fan who doesn't say something stupid about the fights the first sentence out of their mouths, all the casual fans thought it was back years ago was WWF on ice, not because the sport suxed but because almost everyone was transplants and came from non hockey areas like the south and the west for the most part, even st. Louis was fairly new and about as far south as they went, so with the advent of the internet and after a few years of trying to work or afford a computer I found this place, and look forward to reading or commiserating together everyday or most everyday, and IMO whats changed on the boards is the dying passion we all felt when we were 5,10 20 30 and 40+ years without winning the cup, now we are not only good we are really good so its a little different sort of how its ok to hate the red sox but to still love the cubs, lol if that makes any sense

I definitely get it. I've met some good people and good hockey fans via other sites and this one especially back at a time when it wasn't easy to find others to commiserate with. While in some ways things may have been 'easier' when the team had no expectations (i.e. the self-deprecating humor and armchair GMing), the growth of this entire community has been positive and uplifting, and though the team's success has made everything a little bit higher-profile as well as brought high expectations, I think the mentality of most posters/fans is extremely bright because we were never fans of a successful team until relatively recently.
