OT: Ranking Our Most Disliked Teams

I'm a filthy millennial so I wasn't around for the Dark Days of the Islanders Dynasty. I will always hate the Devils the most, more than any other sports team.

Makes sense as those Devil teams from the mid 90's thru the 2000's were quite hateable. Lemieux, Danyko, Brodeur....ugggg. Not as detestable as the Islanders or Flyers were but those solid Devil teams were hard to take.

Think it has to be an age thing. If you cut your teeth on NYR fandom over those late 70's, early 80's years, hard not do despise the Isles. If it were in the mid 70's, probably hard to to despise the Flyers. If you became fan around the time of 94 and what happened after, hard to move the Isles ahead of NJ.

For me, it's the Isles above all others. Then Philly. Then NJ. Then the Pens.

To me its that we haven't had many playoff rounds vs them lately, New Jersey used to be my most hated but same there. There is a recency bias for me.

I actually got into hockey around the 94 team and hated the devils for the longest time more. But now its all islander hate for me. I have way too many islander fans who enjoyed the rangers not making the Po’s the last 3 years. They piss me off and i nothing more than barzal walk off and they become the worst team in the league for years but nevwr win the draft lottery and always pick 4th.

If your a Ranger fan under the age of 45 and didn't experience the early to mid 80's dominance of the Islanders and how excruciating it was to be a Ranger fan back than while every year they won a Cup, they went thru us, than it's understandable why alot of peeps in here don't have the Islanders at the top of the list.

However if you over the age of 45 as I am and also experienced the dirty ass Flyers from their Broad Street Bully days thru the 80's when they had Dave Brown, Rick Tocchet etc...than this is easy peasy and it can only be:

not sure how you have the Pens so low at your age. That team wrecked our Rangers seasons more than the Isles and Flyers combined during your lifetime.

We've played the Flyers I believe 11 times in the playoffs and we've won about half the time. I started following them when they were the Broad Street Bullies thru the Dave Brown, Rick Tocchet days. They were a nasty mean ass team pretty much every year and most Ranger fans hated their guts more than the Penguins than and to this day.

We've played the Islanders I believe 9 times in the playoffs and once again we've won about half the series but most if not all of them have come from 1990 and onward. I don't need to go thru the pain that Ranger fans like myself went thru early to mid 80's while the Isles were winning their Cups, they were stepping over our asses despite us giving them all that they could handle. To this day and it will never change most Ranger fans hate the Islanders more than the Penguins AINEC.

We've played the Devils I believe 6 times and once again we've split with them. But when they were good, we were as well just not as good as them during those Cup years of theirs. They had some very hateable players...Claude Lemieux, Kenny Danyko,Marty Brodeur. Not even close for peeps my age to hate a metropolitan rival more than the Pens.

We've played the Pens I believe 6 or so times and we've had a fair amount of success vs them in the playoffs especially the last 15-20 years. The only time I can truly recall the Pens breaking my heart was in the '91-92 season when Messier first came here. That year most Ranger fans like myself thought we were going to slay the dragon. Well Lemiux, Jagr, Barasso, Ron Francis had other designs. The Center ice goal by Ron Francis in Game 4 past Mike Richter still puts me in a sour mood just thinking about.

So no question Pens are 4th on that list and it's really not even close. And I'd bet if you ask any Ranger fan over 45, they'll give you similar rankings....Isles/Flyers followed by Devils and either Pens or Caps and maybe the Bruins. Whoever you pick for 4th is WAY behind the other 3.

Dude you must be thinking of some other team cause it certainly isn't the Penguins who've derailed serious Cup contending Ranger teams. It happened in '91-92 as I said and I'll give you 20015-'16 the year after we went to the Cup finals as Pens beat us in 1st round....that's it bud.

2007-'08 we weren't serious contenders for the Cup so I don't count that. So I don 't know what your talking about!!

There are not many Flyers more hated than Ron Hextall was. If you or anyone remembers how much Billy Smith was hated, same with Hextall. And alot of the hate has to do with how good a players they were. So it's not just wins/losses as to why teams are more hated than others. Back in the day fan bases hated other fan bases alot easier than they do today in the fantasy hockey loving world we live in. That's just the facts bro.

Super Mario, Jagr, Coffey, etc caused the Rangers way more head and heart aches with Crosby and Malkin ticking us all off. That organization has taken dives and stole more games due to bs than any other team. Graves’ slash on Mario, Coffey mugging Granato, etc, etc it’s endless. The Flyers haven’t done shiat against the Rangers beside the Legion. The Smurfs beat the Kerr, Propp, Poulin, etc group and they never won a Cup despite an amazing effort vs Edmonton. Besides the Isles Dynasty it was the Caps which caused the Rangers more heartache. Heck, the Isles haven’t hurt the Rangers since the early/mid 1980’s.

No team in the league takes as many dives, whines, complains or gets luckier in a lottery than the Pens. We’re all shocked Laf isn’t there.
