There are not many Flyers more hated than Ron Hextall was. If you or anyone remembers how much Billy Smith was hated, same with Hextall. And alot of the hate has to do with how good a players they were. So it's not just wins/losses as to why teams are more hated than others. Back in the day fan bases hated other fan bases alot easier than they do today in the fantasy hockey loving world we live in. That's just the facts bro.
Agreed. Hatred for a team does not necessarily come with how many wins and losses the two teams have against each other. The players and personalities on those teams dictate a lot.

Flyers - 3
Bruins - 3
Caps - 3
Blue Jackets - 1
I dont know you, or who you are.....but I like you. Guessing you are around my age, and as I am reading this 1st page out of curiousity BEFORE i actually state my picks......you have the HATED BRUINS with a 3, just one other had a 1 for the B's.

This is true, thank God. They have been mostly irrelevant for 35 years now but their fans are still delusional and obnoxious even with them sucking for decades. They win a playoff round and they are planning the parade route. It was simply unbearable when they won their cups in the early 80's. Wait until there is a playoff series between the 2 teams. You will all see then.
Hopefully this year. These youngins will THEN get to live through deep disdain for Isles fans. Uggh.

If NJD and NYI aren't your top 2 and you're from the local area what are you even doing here
Probably because the hatred runs even DEEPER for teams prior to those teams even existing. Colorado Rockies anyone? Lmao.
And the Islander fans dont even have the class or "education" in knowing and THANKING the classy organization called the Rangers for "allowing" them to be brought into existence by signing on the dotted line.

Islanders - 2 horrific years to live through (envy)

Flyers - 2 might actually genuinely HATE them more than Isles

Bruins - 2 Brad Park/Jean Ratelle/Middleton And for getting rid of that small rink called the Boston Gaaahden. Need I say more?

Penguins- 1.5 Even though that org. doesn't even deserve recognition. Haha, remember < 2,000 fans in season finale?

Canadiens -1 1979 disappointment, and holier than and know it all fans

Devils - 1 Not higher on list, because my cousin works for them.

Kings - .5 Any team taking away my teams GLORY gets on list.
Ala how the Canuck fans probably HATE our Rangers as they STILL have never won a Cup.

Honorable mention.......Ottawa and Tampa Bay

***Can't believe I dont have any REAL HATRED for the Caps. Maybe because we usually ended their high hopes. That team endured many disappointing years, and finally GOT what they deserved. Unlike a flash in the pan Cup winner.

Islanders - 3

Their team, their fans, everything about them is the absolute worst. NVMC was a literal dumpster, Barclays was an unmitigated failure. The best thing that happened is that they think they are a good team now and have next to no future beyond the next 2-3 years. It's going to be a beautiful thing when the Rangers are flying past them in the next year and a half and they are talking about being "one piece away" while having no cap space.

Devils - 3

Ditto my first statement from above. Best thing about the last 10 years with this team was the Rangers sending Brodeur to the glue factory directly from Yankee Stadium. Ruined one of the better goal songs in recent memory by adding "you suck" to the end of it. Their only redeeming quality as a franchise is an episode from Seinfeld.

Penguins - 2

Obnoxious fan base that is going to disappear again over the next few years. The 3-1 comeback against them was sweeter than the one against the Caps, not because they went to the finals, but about who it was against. Crosby was the anointed savior of the league and was an absolute baby coming into the league. Comparison to Ovechkin, who was not viewed that way, yet was as big of a reason for the league bouncing back. The team employed Matt Cooke and James Neal throwing flying elbows.

Montreal - 1

It's not a natural rival as it would have been with less teams in the league, but every game against them gets the blood going. I think this has more to do on a fan/media level than team level. Every game in Montreal is just repugnant. The fans cheering on "penalties" and then when there is no call, immediately booing, this is easily one of the most annoying things you can hear during their games. The love fest from the media doesn't help. They are always the darlings of the Canadian media. Look at the team this year as proof enough. They "love" the offseason they had, which was overpaying for Josh Anderson, signing a 33 year old defender to a long term contract extension, signing a 45 point middle 6 winger for 4 years, and giving 4 years to a bottom pairing defender. The anointing of Carey Price as essentially a god when he got outperformed by Jaro Halak at the beginning of his career and underwhelming outside of a 4 year span might be the biggest example of the media love fest.

Flyers/Caps - .5 each

Definitely don't want to lose when playing these teams, but the others above just outweigh them both. So many playoff series against the Caps, but none of them were bitter, probably because the Rangers pretty much won them outside of the late 00's or the 2011 series in spite of the series played being so close. I have significantly more respect for Ovechkin over Crosby. As for the Flyers, they haven't been nearly as prevalent in the last decade, so the fire against them is much lower than in year's past. They have easily the highest potential to move from where they are now to a three based on AV being the coach and the trajectory they are currently on.

Exactly...some peeps don't understand this. My hatred for the Flyers has more to do with my dislike for dozens of their former players than it was about how many playoff series we won or lost to them.

Hatred for a team or fanbase is multi faceted.

Now the Islanders sure there are some players I absolutely can't stand but my extreme distaste for them does in fact have to do with the pain and suffering I went thru in the early to mid 80's when they were winning all them Cups of theirs.

Yeah the Penguins are annoying and the team and their fan base does alot of whining and complaining but there are no players I absolutely couldn't stand like I felt about Mik Vukota, Baumgarten, Ron Hextall, Dave Schultz, Dave friggen Brown, Rick Tocchet.

The Capitals are the same as the Penguins in my eyes. They don't bother me all that much nor their fans despite them doing their fair share of bitching and moaning. Other than Tom Wilson who I do despise but secretly wish he was on our Rangers, there are no players on the Caps who are truly hateable. Dale Hunter back in the day was a pretty despicable player but he was like the only Cap I can recall truly not liking.

Oh check that....John F'N Druce will always be on my shit list but that's for different reasons than Hunter....lol

I mean shit people complain about Crosby. I dunno...he doesn't bother me. He's a great player and I can respect that.

So when you have a combination of hateable players, hateable fan bases and playoff series that were intense, it's not even close as I said a few times that the Islanders and Flyers are by far my two most detestable teams followed by the Debbies and the Pens/Caps and maybe the Bruins.

that was such a great feeling to win that Series. Hard to believe that org won Cups afterwards while the Rangers got zero. Meanwhile, i’m amazed the disconnect between the obnoxious Pens fans and the awesome Steelers fans despite them being the same people lol.

Honorable dislike - their annoying horn blaring all game long to entice the chant “let’s go Pens”.

Thrilled Laf is a Ranger as i/many of us were waiting for the Pens logo to win that lottery.

This is tough. Part of me wants to say islanders are a 10 because their fan base is by far the worst thing I’ve ever had to deal with growing up on Long Island.

isles - 4
Devils - 3

Chosen (and a few others) made the point of how rivalries are few and far between during the regular season. They are STILL there, but because of expansion and "evening out" the schedule, it makes for far far less than.......what rivalries "used to be".
Okay, PO's are a different animal, but I loved the days when there were many home and home games. If a team took liberties on home ice the 1st game, then u could bet the 2nd game would be FRESH in everyone's mind and retaliation was a certainty.

Thats why I predict "this year" is going to be VERY special, playing within division 8x! Like the good ole' days. True, we dont see other good teams, but those intra-division games are going to be special. IMHO, this will create/re-awaken sleeping rivalries and will be EXCELLENT for the NHL.

Will probably be toned down a bit next year, but I bet the NHL takes a good hard look at what will come of this.

Dude you must be thinking of some other team cause it certainly isn't the Penguins who've derailed serious Cup contending Ranger teams. It happened in '91-92 as I said and I'll give you 20015-'16 the year after we went to the Cup finals as Pens beat us in 1st round....that's it bud.

2007-'08 we weren't serious contenders for the Cup so I don't count that. So I don 't know what your talking about!!

And PS...not sure how old you are but sure we've had some pretty decent success vs the Flyers over the years but it's not just that as to why they are so hated. I mentioned the names in my previous post.

Im with you Max. Never in my life were I so excited than PRE Rangers/Flyers matchups. The anxiety of brawling hockey to be expected/Kate Smith and her agenda, the Spectrum and their riotous/righteous fans and the hatred for their coach and EVERY SINGLE PLAYER.

Absolutely. It amazes me how so many people don't have the Isles on the top of there hate list. Younger fans have no idea what it's like but they will eventually.
Guess you have to experience it. And not just for one year. It was through a damned decade. Literally their bitches. And every year was going to be different, and it wasnt. I swore someday we would get even, might be happening soon.
They have some serious payback coming. Hope their Dads are still alive to witness it, and for their sons to GET what we all got.

Not such a secret, and me too! Betting many here would LOVE him and his style (toughness) on our team.

This is no secret, and totally with you. Betting many others here as well would LOVE him on our team, his overall game, not many like him. Not a goon, but super huge and super tough, scoring capabilities and exactly what our team needs.

I redid this list because I completely forgot about Montreal. And their stupid delusional cultist fans. But seriously. Count Penguins as 10 because their very existence is a disgrace to the league.

NYI, NJD, and PIT as whole entities - 2.5 per
WSH FOG HORN - 1
Brendan Gallagher - .5
BOS, MTL, and NSH fans - .3 a piece
Having only 10 pts and needing to break out a calculator- .1
