Muzzin trade is probably his best straight up move, unfortunate about the injuries. Don't think I can give to much credit to a gm picking at 57. Theres draft videos of Dubas discussing possibly trading that pick but the scouts were adamant to get Knies.

Jack Campbell trade easily his best trade. Campbell was the perfect goalie in our system. Should have been the goalie of the future but got money hungry.

Or trading for Zach Hyman in 2015 as co interim GM. That was a clutch acquisition.

I struggled with whether to include any of the co-interim GM moves but decided not to. It defintiely gets a bit messy in that regard. Hyman was a great get.

Pretty easy - what were your favourite moves Dubas made.

Please let me know of any that should be added to the list.
I was a big supporter of Dubas, until I wasn't.
I would say his best transaction from my perspective was manipulating his contract status into getting himself fired.

My favorite Dubas move was how ensured each Leaf jersey came with a complementary castration.

If that was his best move wouldn't it have translated to actual success?

No, because there are a ton of teams who are set up for success each year, pretending like it is this simple is just silly.

For example, Vegas was able to manipulate the cap by 10 million this year, they had a clear advantage. It doesn't mean other teams didn't do well to set themselves up for success.

Is your argument that only one team is set up to succeed yearly?

A worse roster every year form the previous season while he was at the helm. No draft picks and almost nothing in the prospect pipeline. Dubas as GM was a complete failure, look no further than the current cap situation he left the team in. Matt Murray is the gift that keeps on giving.

Wrong board? The team got better every year.

Unfortunately, I think it did so in the wrong ways. It wasn't really internal growth, it was more about trading picks and riding the top 4 until their legs fell off.

Hoping the next era of Leafs hockey includes more internal competition from below and more depth.

Its tough because some of his poorer moves muddy the water. It also depends if you want to take luck out of the equation or not. Muzz and Campbell seemed like great gets until their respective medical problems took them out. But for that they could still be performing well for the club today. How would this playoff have looked with 2020 Campbell and Muzzin? Sorry if I don't agree that Sammy's star power got them past the Bolts this year.

The Hyman acquisition was kind of fluky where he traded for a guy who showed nothing until his last year of college but you can't ignore how well it turned out just because there wasn't a lineup of other clubs looking to make that deal. Unlike most the amateur drafting I think he was pretty familiar with the guy's game. I probably give unfair weight to some of the other acquisitions because there were other suitors.

So for me its Muzz, Brodie, Hyman, Campbell, Spezza, Gio. We might yet be talking about Samsonov if he doesn't take a dip this year and get let go. That would be funny if if Dubas's weakest area yielded a solid #1g for the club.

Its kind of sad that after 6 years he doesn't have any enduring personal success stories except for Hyman on another team but if we dug around there are probably quite a few GMs with the same gap in their resume. I still have hope that Timmins can be a top 4 guy and earn that distinction.

Knies. The other moves were decent, but never really led to anything. Knies looks very promising and looks like he'll be a top line winger in the league soon.

The Kapanen trade was almost a massive W. To get that kind of value for him was just insane.

Great pick no doubt but I don't know that Dubas should get credit for it.

The actual list of "best moves" just highlights how bad Dubas was at his job. How did he get that job anyways? I want details because its still unbelievable. Put a good fantasy league manager in there instead and save money.

Add Tavares UFA signing.
That was the worst thing to happen to this team. It started the domino effect. Led to overpayment of our RFA's, Kadri trade, couldn't afford to sign Hyman, not being to create a deeper lineup.

That single signing is the biggest reason why this group has failed. Not because JT isn't a good player but because of everything else that happened as a result of that decision.
