We still have plenty of good players to build on next year

Hayes Zibanejad Buchnevich Miller Fast Kreider Vesey Chytil Andersson Skjei Shattenkirk DeAngelo Staal I still like and smith you hope comes back in better shape. Hank keeps you in games by himself.

Need a new coach though

That’s 13 guys you can build around add Grabner in July

This would just prolong the mediocrity imo

I don't see how. The article suggests that NYR are trying to do a quick rebuild. The young guys we aquire/draft aren't going to simply not develop because JT is on the team.

Nowhere in the article did it say NYR's plan for next year is to suck and get a top draft pick. I don't think that's a part of the calculus at all. They're moving the older guys for picks. That's an entirely different strategy than sucking-to-improve later.

I have no problem listening on McDonagh and Zuccarello, but if they trade them in a panic move for an underwhelming return just to get whatever they can I'm gonna lose it.

I still think the play should be to trade the UFAs and call up kids from HFD to take their places and still try and make the playoffs.

Trade Nash-Grabner-DD-Holden.

Go into late season stretch:

Kreider-Zib-Buch
Miller-Hayes-Zucc
Andersson-Chytil-Fast
Vesey-Holland-Carey

McD-Shatty
Skjei-Staal
Smith-Tony D

Hank

If they really wanna sink the rest of the season, they're going to have to sit Hank.

How exactly does a team tank with Lundqvist? They can't at least not unless he reverts back to last year's form.

If McDonagh goes in this scenario, it's robbing Peter to pay Paul.

There's a point there, but in a way it depends on what they get for McDonagh. You can argue they're of equivalent value to the team, but in this scenario you're getting JT for free, and getting ideally a young NHL ready player at least for Mac.

Then on top of being gifted a generational goaltender in the 7th round, they get gifted a #1 D because Montreal is even dumber than we are, and we're gonna f*** that up too.

Whatever it is, it needs to be more along the lines of still retooling than a full out and out tank like many here want. The league is so tight and largely mediocre that there's no reason to throw yourselves into the pit of misery that has been inescapable for so many teams, even ones gifted superstars like Edmonton and Buffalo.

I would prefer this team have a 1C and a 1D like every team worth a damn.

And trading one for the other would even be an improvement on this.

We're trading one for a crapshoot at getting the other.

This! This! This!

Interesting. I wouldn't be surprised to see Gorton overplay his hand on McD and wait until the Summer. If he's on the table, do it now while the pretenders/contenders think it puts them over the top. I'd hate to see Zooks go, but I guess you have to if the return is right.

Nash, Grabs, Holden, DD ------------> Exit Here

This news will be worth it just to see Machinehead melt down with hysterics.
I'm going to be f***ing hilarious come 2024 when we're still not back in the playoffs, and still don't employ a 1C or 1D.

I'm already cracking myself up.

Your 2018 template, assuming all named players are dealt is

Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Miller-Hayes-___________
Chytil-Andersson-_______
Vesey-Nieves-Fast

Skjei-Shattenkirk
_____-Smith
Staal-DeAngelo

That's actually remarkably few holes to fill given how many big guys are getting moved.

Notice in the article they mentioned get NHL or NHL ready young players - that's not quite the same as Buffalo and Edmonton's strategy of throwing away everything banking on picks. I've been saying most of the year that they team can be rebooted and even more competitive in a year or two if they go for proven young players instead of picks.

I’ll start this by saying I don’t think we’re a true contender

But, you don’t think this team, if healthy, with a coach who employs a system with some semblance of defensive structure, instead of burning Hank out is closer to bottoming out than competing?

i dont think a system change will have the results you are hoping for....we become a more structured team which is great but we still lack talent at key positions to compete for a cup
