very impressive to pull that out in a game georgiev did everything possible to lost. that was an incredible performance. so bad it was funny bad. hes gotta go now. his misery deflates the team even more than the muffins that roll through him on the ice. kinkaid would at least give us consistent average play and is a positive personality the team rallies around. with georgiev its like gallant giving them an obstacle course to make wins more challenging. maybe it pays off having all this experience being in situations we need a goal? trying to find any silver lining to him still being on this team

best laf has ever looked... and then he showed his leadership trying to handle the georgiev issue himself. captain sht

I missed this what did he do?

@ArPanet

hope this works wont seem to let me reply but i was just joking about his backcheck on veleno where they went crashing into georgiev

This was probably the worst goaltending performance by a NHL goalie but people want him gone because ADA.

projection is strong.

I've watched Kinkaid. He never had the performance Georgie had last night. He doesn't struggle with what Georgie struggles with.

At full health I think we see something like this:

Kreider-Zibanejad-Vatrano
Panarin-Strome-Kakko
Lafreniere-Chytil-Copp
Motte-Rooney-Goodrow
Hunt/Reaves/McKegg/Brodzinski

They will limit Kakko's minutes by playing Copp in that spot late in games until he's back up to speed. I think the line shuffling all year has been a blessing in disguise, because now Gallant feels comfortable playing anyone with anyone. Its also nice having guys with unique skillsets as black aces because we know the depth will be tested at some point. Now imagine Blais somehow gets back? I dont think there would be a deeper forward group in the NHL.

If Rooney comes back and gets minutes every night over Hunt... I won't do the butt thing but it'll be a real shame.

Prepare yourself. Hunt doesnt PK and Rooney does. Gallant has a hard-on for bottom 6 guys who PK, plus hes got the size.

I do think there will be quite a bit of bottom 6 shuffling down the stretch though.

Rooney shouldn't PK but you're not wrong.

hunt sucks too. the hunt love on this board is bizarre. rooney playing 4th line minutes with 4th liners and penalty killing has 11 points. hunts got 15 playing with panarin and strome for like half the year. hunts a penalty taking machine as well.

It's not bizarre. he's playing too high up but he's probably the best board player on the team and adds a lot of value at ES. especially over all the trash that we've had in our bottom 6 this year.

he does take a bit too many penalties though, not wrong there.

Hunt-Rooney-Reaves was the best fourth line in the league, until half the Rangers got hurt/sick and the line was broken up.

Hunt is a good hockey player. Rooney is a good hockey player. They’re both good hockey players and you don’t have to put down one to support the other. Just slot them appropriately.

Hunt-Rooney-Reaves was the best fourth line in the league because Hunt was carrying them like a mother duck. When Hunt was moved off the line, the two other players dropped into the 30's in CF% and xGF%. That can't be a coincidence.

I do agree that Rooney is generally a good NHL 4th liner but he's currently working on the worst year of his career. He hasn't beene better than Brodzinski or Reaves (Brodzinski, not even close), or arguably even McKegg.

When you're the 15th/16th best forward on your team in a given season, you shouldn't become a fixture because you're a "veteran" or a "center" or whatever else the Rangers inevitably tell themselves.

Even if Rooney were at his best, I don't see the justification for him being one of our top 12.

It's not really putting him down.

If I offered you $10 or $9.50, it's not making a huge difference to take $9.50 but there's also no justification for it.

Hunt is just a close but clear better player.

I agree but you already know they are going to want him in as the center. Unless they put Goodrow down as the 4th line center.

Rooney isn't a particularly good defender and he has always been horrendous on faceoffs.

He's a center insofar as NHL.com says "center" on his page.

Tbh most 4th line centers are fake centers. If they were any f***ing good at defense, transition, or zone entries, they wouldn't be 4th liners.

Goodrow should be the 4C when we're fully healthy. Hes the 5th best center on the team. Strome or Chytil should shift to wing. We all know Strome is gonna come back and Copp is gonna go to RW on that line and the kids line will be reincarnated though

Hopefully Copp plays so well that Gallant decides to keep him as the 2c and move Strome down. Separating Panarin from Strome would be helpful for both

I think Strome would also help Chytil and Laf's production. Would love to see Panarin with Copp and Kakko also.
I think an interesting move would be making the 3rd line being Laf Strome and Goodrow. When they were together while this team was ravaged by covid/injury I thought they had good results. Chytil doesnt exactly play a "4th line center" kind of game but I think him and Mottes skating together could actually be pretty nice.

You're overestimating the impact of a backup goalie. Georgiev has cost us like 8 goals.

If the Rangers scored the average amount of goals they score in the last two games, they would have lost both games in regulation and that's 4 points lost and likely lost home ice. That's just the last two games he played. Shots were 18 and 24 through regulation in both of these games.

All goaltenders give up goals.
