I don't know how you managed to turn this into attacking Kreider.
I answered your question re: how Kreider might have looked in the NHL at 19 with relevant analysis of him personally at 19.

If you feel like that was an attack him on him I don't know what to tell you.

I know his stick sometimes reacts to the puck like a pinball bumper but I wonder if it's just youthful nerves. He's not yet processing the NHL game at full speed and he seems less capable as a result.

When you mature they say "the game slows down." I want to see Chytil when the game slows down for him. I'm on the optimistic side right now. Still think Kravtsov is a far better prospect but Chytil is still top 6 potential.

I do, too. I think it becomes being able to accummulate and amass talent. The addition of Chytil means you don't have to depend upon Buchnevich to be a top line forward, and then adding Kravtsov does the same for Chytil. If the Rangers end up with 5 1st in the next two drafts, they've got the chance to continue to add to that depth.

I get tired of 'we'll never get the first overall, so this rebuild is going to be the same result' crap. You can get top line talent throughout the first round. Gorton has given himself a lot of swings. Chytil, looks like a highly-skilled top six forward. Kravtsov looks like a top line forward. Miller looks like a beast. Lundkvist looks like a superb high end 2nd pairing Dman. You've got quality young players like Andersson, Howden and now Lemieux to fill out your 3rd line. Mika's a beast, and Tony D is getting there. There is so much good going on right now. there's a pretty good chance that the Rangers are going to have 5 more 1st round picks in the next two drafts, and they'll have at worst 5 of the top 62 players in this year's draft.
As soon as we drafted guys like Chytil, Kravstov, and Miller, I knew Gorton wasn’t f***ing around. He’s trying to get the top, top end talent we all crave. We just gotta hope they develop properly.

I don't mean to rain on your parade jas but Chytil doesn't really look all *that* skilled. He'll be good, but I don't see 'top line'.

I'll laugh pretty hard if all his puck control problems were because he had a Kovalchuk level curve on his blade though.

Disagree, I've seen enough of him to say he is a highly skilled player but is only 19 and needs to work on his game.

"He tried 10% of the time instead of the 35% we get now"
that's not what I wrote. he either crushed (and still does!) or "read the play" (and still does this too!). You took it wrong.

edit: i dont think 100% effort level is a good trait to have at the NHL level. Game is too fast and complicated. Tanner Glass for example had a 100% effort level and if he had actual talent it would have been to his detriment skating as hard as he could pretty much all the time.

There's the secret. I think hiring Quinn goes a long way towards making that happen. I think he's turning out to be the perfect coach for a developing team. I hope he has it in him to be here when the opportunity to win arrives.

He's shown us flashes, which is great.

but his stickhandling and puck control caught me off guard. I didn't think it was possible to be what it is

Yeah Quinn is extremely promising so far. Lots of players have blossomed under him, the progress of Kreider, Zibs, ADA, heck even Jimmy Vesey has stepped it up (I’m still extremely questionable of him overall but I have to say he’s definitely somewhat improved).

I think hiring Quinn is gonna end up being considered among Gorton’s best moves down the line.

It could be a confidence issue with him. Just about every 19 year old will look out of place one way or another in the NHL

Oh I just wish the misguided talk about Chytil would stop.
It's okay to notice the problems a 19 year old is having in the best league in the world.
It is not okay to assume that noted problems and/or mistakes are not fixable.
It is also not okay to get twisted about his being benched and doesn't play in another Rangers game for 2, 3 or even 4 games. Practice sessions and coaching work on improving players. Forget the short term, forget the knee-jerk.

But yeah, the Pionk ship is looking more and more like it's long departed the harbor. Pretty disappointed how things turned out with him, but considering we got him for nothing it's not the end of the world

And in the end, Quinn discovered that he not only developed the players, but they, too, developed him. ~rolls credits~

Proud of this team tonight and by in large most of the season. I will say maybe it's just bad luck, but the only thing that AV has over Quinn is OT. They used to be amazing in OT, now they're horrible. The one game I went to was an OT win though. Oh and **** the refs.

We only have 2 forwards that have a good chance to score 3 on 3 while we usually face teams with 3 scoring threat lines. Otherwise, it's kind of fluky when every other line is on the ice. We were deeper in the past.

I’m worried the staff and management like him too much and he has far more of a leash than he should. He’s been a below NHL level player for a long time now. There’s no question he should be the 7th D and Smith should be in over him. I know he’s in only his second year but he’s gonna be 24 and has shown little to no progress, if anything regression. It’s disappointing bc he had potential, but I think sadly he’s not gonna cut it here.

My fear is he’s viewed as part of the new young core. He still gets pp and pk time and sometimes leads the team in ice time. How he even sniffs the PK with how atrocious on it makes no sense to me.

To have taken both Washington and Tampa to OT, it feels as though we are a 2nd line and a top pair d and minus Staal to competing. Some of that might come with the maturing of guys like Chytil. This thing could turn around quicker than we thought. I mean since we started sitting Hayes and Zuc, all of Buchnevich, Vesey and Strome have kicked it up another gear and it's not just playing with better players, they are stronger on pucks and playing with more grit.
I know its not a long term solution but Smith looked good tonight. Good debut for Lemieux as well, hes gonna be a fan favorite.

Washington game was not a good one, they got a point out of that one strictly because Copely played like he belongs in the ECHL.

This game was better, much better.

Yuuuup, I had hoped he'd show improvement in the areas he's lacking but he really hasn't.

Yup, agree with this too.
