I’m worried the staff and management like him too much and he has far more of a leash than he should. He’s been a below NHL level player for a long time now. There’s no question he should be the 7th D and Smith should be in over him. I know he’s in only his second year but he’s gonna be 24 and has shown little to no progress, if anything regression. It’s disappointing bc he had potential, but I think sadly he’s not gonna cut it here.

My fear is he’s viewed as part of the new young core. He still gets pp and pk time and sometimes leads the team in ice time. How he even sniffs the PK with how atrocious on it makes no sense to me.
I find it very doubtful the staff is unaware of how he's been of late.
If I were to guess I'd say Ruff is pushing hard for him and saying he reminds him of [whoever] and they're trying to make it work.

I don't think they're blind or "in love". But they've clearly made the decision the best way to develop him in particular is to force-feed him ice time and I'm personally deferring to their judgment. For now.

People keep dumping on Staal, might be muscle memory, but he's been Staalid. :dunce:
Pionk is the real anchor on D. Staal has been fine most of the season and him and Tony are a good pair. Tony is a much better partner for Staal, his skill in particular his breakout ability and coolness under pressure while trying to transition.

Poor Skjei though has to play with Pionk now though.

We only have 2 forwards that have a good chance to score 3 on 3 while we usually face teams with 3 scoring threat lines. Otherwise, it's kind of fluky when every other line is on the ice. We were deeper in the past.
True. Just look at the AVS. The worst 3 on 3 team in hockey. Don't quote me but I think they are like 1-10 or 1-11 in ot. They are in ot as we speak again

Some of these new-age fangled analytics like impact rates and hWAR think Kreider and DeAngelo are Prime Bertuzzi and Ray Bourque, so that's cool I guess.

Boys played well. That's all you can ask for.

Should have had this game. Tampa was disinterested. Rangers outplayed them. Read their GDT, it’s like they lost the game, can’t say I blame them for being upset.

What is interference if that's not it? Vlad never had the puck, the puck carrier literally passed it then hit him.

Not terribly upset about not getting the extra point, but that was pretty ridiculous.
Exactly. But that’s a great trick for overtime with so much open ice. One pick like that and you’re home free. Rangers should try that one.

Islander fan here - you know I'm no Rangers supporter but that was clearly interference/a pick. This season the refs have basically stopped calling interference, its like we are heading back to Mario's garage league days.

Good job getting to OT against TBL.
Seems like the league has decided to really up the goal scoring. I don’t have any numbers but I’d guess there will be a ton more goals scored this season compared to the last few.
Weird how officiating has so much influence. Wink wink.

Some of them are upset.

Others are calling them the best team in pro sports history and chest thumping about how they don't even try and beat teams anyway because they're the best team in sports history.

No middle ground in that fanbase.

I can......but I am not even going to fool myself into thinking that Tampa brought their best, nor did they really have any kind of answer in being outplayed by an "inferior" team. They took us for granted (and sucked for the most part) yet were able to walk away with 2 pts.......which actually pisses me off, despite that we don't really even give a crap about the 2 pts.
They are going home laughing.....and it really won't play well for them.....if they continue being arrogant. For our #1 picks sake.....they had better use this game as a very strong LESSON.. Hey Cooper......make them watch tons of video, because our team was BETTER than yours.
I don’t buy the whole “playing down” to another team line. A team might come out flat but the Rangers brought it. And TB had to fight to hold on. Two teams played. And btw the Rangers have been doing this all year. They’re a well-coached, hard working team. They don’t have any scoring but they’re rarely out any game. I would never discredit obvious hard work and I bet TB would agree.

I thought it was a penalty, but I'm not gonna blame the refs when Pionk would have eventually handed them a goal anyway.
Ohhh don’t be that guy. You’re better than that. Pionk is like the circus. You get anything and everything under the big top.

So would I. Push them around a bit and they turn into a bunch of flustered asshats.

I'm not a GRRRR Toughness guy but they're missing that extra something... That or the ability to play through that stuff.

I look forward to beating them and beating them up in the future.
I saw a lot of smirking and head shaking from TB. Which is the mark of a loser. It may have been a one-off but I’ve rooted for a lot of Shitty teams who are always feigning confusion and bitching to the refs- while losing.

You're right. Whatever happens happens. It just would be easier knowing that the team across the river wasn't trying purposely to tank.
Best to ignore what others are doing. I’m enjoying this team immensely. Add a few guys who can actually shoot the puck...

3 v 3 for us against a team that has a lot more talent--we're not going to win many of them. As for the winner--IMO the refs haven't liked the Rangers in quite a while but they do like Tampa. There's no way to really prove it---it's just my take.

Again I don't think the Rangers are going to be making it easy for other teams going towards the end of the year. With any luck they would have beat the Caps a couple nights ago and they would have beat Tampa tonight. You could see their confidence growing as the game progressed. Quinn has these guys thinking they can win on any given night against any team in the league. As our talent emerges over the next year, two, three we're going to give other teams fits.

Anyway my three stars were Vesey, Lemieux and Buchnevich. Buchnevich won out over Zibanejad and DeAngelo based on his dropping the gloves and duking it out with Gourde. That was a 'I'm not taking any **** from you' kind of fight and to me Buch takes the next step he needs to take when he's mixing it up and not getting pushed around.

As I said earlier the Rangers are no longer a soft team which they became under AV. It's a change for the better.
You got it. I’ll shut up now - probably- but I’ve watched a lot of rangers hockey and this team is working hard and extremmmmmmely likable. I appreciate the Tank premise. But I’m also very happy seeing this balls-out edition. I didn’t vote for Buch but I should have. Good point. I’ve mentioned it a few times lately but he is really making himself noticed the last few games. Maybe the light has gone on. Fingers crossed.
