I meant in terms of players and the way the trade has popped up on the feeds: "Lindgren + 2 for Parssinen +3". It's fine if we want to say Parsinnen had no value in this trade.
He pretty much didn't. Yeah, he was the first name mentioned and so I was similarly apprehensive at first, but given that NYR's getting the earlier of two 2nds Colorado has (either Colorado's, or sending NYR's back to them), it's pretty clear that's the key asset and he's just a throw-in.

I think the entire trade qualifies as a sell for the Rangers. They got rid of 2 UFAs and an unsigned prospect (a real toss in) for 2 players and 2 picks. DeHaan is a UFA as well, so he's clearly a toss in and balances the 2 players for 2 players roster spots.

Bottom line for me: he was part of a package that the Avs just used to try to beef up their roster for the playoffs. So that's not nothing.

With our retention slots, one is tied up with RyJo, right? So if his contract is terminated, as requested, would that give it back to us? I wonder if Trotz has gotten a signal it will be, and that's why he was comfortable giving up our "last" slot

When Trotz came in to replace Poile and they decided to blow the team up, there was excitement in the air. We had some youth ready to blossom and more being drafted. We saw potential in guys like Parssinen, Glass, Tomasino, Evangelista and knew they could be followed by guys like Svechkov, ZLH, Kemell and Askarov and then add in the newer rounds of guys like Wood, Molendyk and now Surin, Stiga and some others.

At other points we had guys that were tough to play against on this team in Olivier, Trenin, Jeannot coupled with Sissons. It was fun to watch as these guys knew how to set the tone on the ice. I'm certainly not advocating that we should've kept these guys, especially the haul we got for Jeannot, but we moved on from them for whatever reason.

So all this hope of this roster being changed from the past to the future gave a reason for hope. Now, two years later, I'm not so sure. We've got an old and declining top 6. We've got a bottom 6 that is full of AHL talent that the team and announcers seem to want to say, hey, these guys have been tearing it up in the minors, they're being rewarded for their play. Guys like Bellows and Lucchini have no place in the NHL. Same could be said for a bunch of other guys in the bottom 6.

Here's my frustration, the youth we were excited about and hoped to be in the lineup is now elsewhere. The few guys that are still here aren't progressing as expected. The pipeline from Milwaukee is basically dry outside of Kemell since Stastney has been called up. The guys we've drafted are still a few years away. The announcers are saying the team and Trotz is hoping for a bounceback year next year. I haven't even touched on the defense corp either.

My question is, HOW? Say we relieve Bruno and replace him with a different coach and we keep the same general roster for next year, we've got Forsberg, ROR, March, Stamkos, Novak, Vange, ZLH, Svechkov, Sissons, McC, Smith and Jank. Maybe Kemell makes the team. This isn't a roster that is terribly exciting. It's easy to play against, even if we were to change systems and have a coach that knows what they're doing.

While the potential of a top pick to land a 1C is exciting, does that player come in and provide any sort of impact? Would it help get Stamkos back on track? Does it elevate Forsberg to another level?

I don't know peeps. I'm just not excited about this team right now. Say we move some of these guys like ROR and Sissons and Novak or whoever, who takes their spot on the roster, more AHL fodder, cause that's exciting, said no one ever. We keep hearing the team needs to play the kids, yet guys like McC and Smith get more ice time than them. The roster construction and decisions we've made are absolutely horrendous. 4 of the 7 dmen we had to start the season are either gone or on IR.

I was optimistic with all the draft capital we had, the youth we had coming up and basically I'm looking at the rest of this year and next and go, this is a train wreck that's only going to get way worse before it gets better. Maybe we land Hagens or Misa this year. Maybe we suck so bad next year we can pick up McKenna. Maybe, just maybe we have something to build around in that scenario. Our luck would be having the 1OA or 2OA this year, having one of two centers to choose from and we pick Schaeffer instead, that's just what I could this inept organization doing.

Not sure I feel any better after typing this all out but all hope and optimism has been replaced by having to earn my trust back by the franchise.

Snipped a bunch of a good doom post. Kudos.

Hope is not a plan. And re-running this roster again next year under Bruno isn't going to get there. In his 2 years, he has that one blip of a winning streak and otherwise shown that whoever they put on the ice, we'll lose more often.

A coaching change will help, but I doubt that means leapfrogging 5 or 6 teams all by itself. Real damage has been done to the quality and depth of the franchise. As you noted the pipeline was blown up.

Which leaves a coaching change plus trades and/or free-agent signings. I don't really trust Trotz not to flub those paths given what's happened. I also expect with the cap going up and us sucking, it will be a harder sell to get free agents to want to play here.

Not directed at you personally as I can't remember each persons point of view, but welcome to tanking. Seriously, for anyone who wanted to tank to win a Cup this is the level of play you can expect to see for the next 4-5 years. If you can't handle that then you have zero business talking about tanking ever again.

Now as far as the roster for next year goes, a good coach with a good basic system that uses his players strengths can mean the team is better. Alot of that too depends on just exactly who gets shipped out and who all comes in, but this team isn't this bad. Ok well with all of the injuries and such maybe the Dcore really is this bad, but early in the season that was all coaching imo. Poor system and dumb roster decisions.

Yeah the hope is pretty tapped out right now. There is some good players coming on the horizon but I'm not sure any of those guys are even on a Forsberg level, let alone the step above that. Maybe this draft fixes that, but until we see that outcome its hard to grab onto that as a glimmer of anything.

I think with the right coach we can see at least a tolerable team to watch over the course of the next couple of years, but if Brunette is still around then next year won't be any different than this one. Luckily I don't think that happens. I think ticket sales behind the scences is going to push Trotz to do something, but even if he doesn't a rough start will pretty much insure he has no choice but to get rid of him. You can't talk about having a culture of learning to win and then allow a coach to stick around that isn't winning anything.

Ultimately as fans I think we just gotta ride it out and hope in the next 3-5 years things are a little easier to swallow. Until then people just need to adjust expectations and be pleasantly surprised if we are anywhere near the playoff hunt.
