I don't know how bad that game could have been, I didn't watch it. At least we got a point there. Sounds like Lundqvist sucked. How badly could they have been outplayed? Because we were outplayed badly last night except for a few stretches. Almost dominated.

I don't know. What I saw was the Isles playing quicker, with more urgency than the Ranger throughout the game. No doubt. However I wouldn't say that the team was badly outplayed and dominated by their opponent. We lost a one goal game. If you compare the quality of scoring chances that were not converted than the Rangers had a few more such chances and of higher quality. Isles' goalie had to do make more high quality stops than Talbot.

One loss doesn't kill us, the most important thing is going to be staying out of the Wild Card spots to avoid matchups against Pitt, Boston, or Tampa Bay in the first round.

Playing Philly, Columbus, NJ, or Washington is not the end of the world.

That actually may be accurate. Seemed like their goalie made a number of great saves and whenever Talbot faced a tough chance he let the goal in. If Hank was in net and on his game we at worst get a point out of this game. That said, they out-possessioned us by a lot and despite not getting too many great chances (though more than has been usual lately) we had trouble keeping them to the outside all night.

which you can forgive a rookie or young player for making.

How many times have we forgiven Kreider for taking rookie penalties so far ? Isnt there a limit to those before you move away from excusable to get your **** in order

I haven't needed to forgive him for any others. There are penalties that comes with a player keeping himself physically engaged, like the slashing call the other night, and there are penalties that come from over-exuberance, like the TMM one last night. It isn't an accident that Kreider looked awful last year while getting 0.26 PIM/G and looks good this year while getting 1.33 PIM/G. I'll take those physical penalties in exchange for getting the better Kreider. Mental mistakes like last night are a different story.

I think you are going overboard, i mean without kreider the rangers are probably in deep **** right now. The penalties will decrease with more experience. Im not saying he shouldnt work on trying to avoid the rookie mistakes but it comes with playing a physical game and also going through teh process. Blame the defense for last nights loss which was probably the worst since the san jose game

When the rest of the team gives the effort he does and gets the results, I'll start being tougher on him for his penalties.

He's a rookie, calm down.

It's January. No need to be worried about playoff brackets quite yet.

You wanna know what blows my mind?

Talking to Avs fans on the main boards tonight about ROR. Here we have a ~55 point two way player, who will probably get close to 6.5 in summer that Colorado fans worship as a deity and by all indications wouldn't move for Gretzky.

On the Rangers we have a ~55 point two way player that's singled out regularly after games and whom fans are clamoring to pawn off at the deadline.

Sure Callahan isn't having a very good season (coming off multiple major injuries) and sure there's a gap between ROR and Callahan. But look at the gap between the way each fanbase reacts to the two players.

Now that blows my mind.

Cally got the treatment ROR gets from Avs fans from NYR fans for years. ROR is a young RFA and a more skilled player overall. Cally is now getting up there in years and is a UFA. There's a big difference in the situation. Trust me, if Cally was 23 nobody would be talking about moving him. Signing ROR for 7 years brings him to 30. Cally would be 36 at the end of a 7 year deal.

He's a very very good player...but I just sorta have this gut feeling that he's the kinda player that will fade, and fade BADLY when he hits his early to mid 30s

just my opinion...

His uncle is still an excellent Lacrosse player, longevity seems to be in the families genes. Also, Tavares has amazing Hockey IQ, which usually takes a Hockey player farther than physical tools will considering those are what eventually deteriorate. I think he'll be a real solid player until the day he retires.

It's not fair. He's definitely a beast player and a leader. He'll be around a long time IMO.

You dont understand our fanbase. hell we could win 15 in a row and the second we lose 1 game people are like "blow it up" or "this team sucks"

I think HF Boards should require the age of the poster be shown in between their Join Date and amount of posts.
Sweet jesus some of you need to get away from the computer and watch/play more hockey.

Interesting.

Tavares is the only player in the league besides Crosby that can dedicate himself to strengthening a weak part of his game over a break and becoming great at it (correct, I haven't seen Stamkos, Ovechkin or Malkin show this ability).

In my opinion he is the type of player who could last easily until he hits 40.

I still think he's not as good as he looks when he plays us though. Our players give him far too much respect. Not even Crosby looks this good against us.

the islanders always look better than they are when they play against us. they always show up to play against us and we can never seem to match their intensity.
